I heard the Circus is coming to to Cleveland Ohio October 21, 2009 to October 26, 2009. My question is, Is CSX bringing the train to Cleveland Ohio from St Louis Missouri? If it is, What day and time would the Circus train come through Berea Ohio and so on? Here is the Schedule http://www.ringling.com/TourSchedule.aspx. Do forget you got the Red Unit Set and the Blue Unit Set. I think it would be very exciting to see this train go by. I have never seen a Circus Train before.

I already know it's the Red Unit. My question is, what is the Train I.D? I'll give an example on what I'm talking about, CSX Q110 or CSX P105 or something like that. That's the type of I.D. I'm talking about in example format. So, does anybody know?

The circus train that went eastbound two weeks ago was assigned P918. The train from St. Louis eastbound, anticipate the same train number.

My question is, how long does it take for them to pack up and leave, like St. Louis? After they are ready to go, would the Red Unit come through Berea Ohio on Monday October 19th, 2009?

WE live bout 30 mile west of Terre Haute In along the CSX Indy-St Louis line and have seen the circus train come through several times. If they run through here, it's most always late afternoon or early evening the next day after closing, when I see them.

The History Channel's show about trains, the episode covering the Circus Trains move from Baltimore to Washington indicated that it took approximately 8 hours after the 'final curtin' for everything to be loaded and switched together for the train to get moving. If one presumes the final curtin being at approximately 10 PM then the train would begin movement approximately 6 AM the following morning.
On CSX the Circus Train always moves with a P prefixed train designation. P numbers are assigned by the Operations Center on an as needed basis from P900 through P999 + the day of origination and apply to all extra passenger moves which include Business car trains, Amtrak and special moves for the various commuter operations as well as the Ringling Brothers Circus trains, when P999 is used, then the numbering starts over at P900 again.

Well there last show is at 5:00PM in St. Louis so if each show is an hour an a half long then they would start packing at 6:30PM or 7:00PM and they would probably leave St. Louis at 2:30AM or 3:00AM the very next day on the 19th leaving for Cleveland. So if the train leaves 2:30AM or 3:00AM it would probably take 8 to 10 Hours to get up to Cleveland Ohio. So putting that down I possibly think the Circus Train P918 would come through Berea Ohio between 10:30AM and 1:00PM on October 19th, 2009. Tell me if I'm wrong or not.
You failed to take into account that the animals are exercised, watered and fed while enroute. This is mandated by law. In addition, crew changes can cause delay's, higher priority traffic, etc. Your best bet is to pick a location and camp out and hopefully a "P" train will light up your scanner.
Another source you may want to check is the arena, they always plan to parade the animals through portions of downtown Cleveland to get there. Having to coordinate traffic control with the city, they may have more definative info. Check with them on the 19th as I am sure they are being kept informed as to the trains arrival.
On CSX Monday's in the Ohio area have been busier than the slack day it was in the past.
Don't 'camp' on a P918 train designation....it could be anything between P900 & P999 with a day designation of either the 18th or 19th depending on when those that made the train's profile scheduled it's departure. CSX Operations Center personnel are the one's that create the trains schedule profile and train designation, not Ringling Bros.
When this train comes to Cleveland (for the time being here for the shows all the shows of the week), would the train be sitting in Collinwood Yard?

Because the group owner is a dip and denied my membership for asking to join the group to keep tabs on the circus train coming to Cleveland? Yes, I wasn't allowed to join. Like others, I'm just interested in finding out when the animals will be wandering through downtown.
I know they came thru St. Louis in the past week, saw it on the news. They were parading the elephants from the train to the Center where the circus would be held. I never saw a circus train but Dad used to see the Royal American Shows cars go by when Frisco hauled them from the south in the 1950's. He took me to see the cars all lined up and parked near downtown. I never thought about circus trains today, but they can't haul animals etc by truck or plane, so trains would be the logical choice.
I wonder if the guy ever saw the train in Cleveland?
The Cleveland Plain Dealer on its front page the other morning had the photo of the elephants walking across the intersection of Euclid Avenue at East 9th Street on their way from train to arena; and who doesn't like the sight of elephants walking single-file holding each other's tails?
If all this railfan wants is to see the circus train and its animals when they process to the arena, I submit this isn't rocket science to predict. Here's what I'd do:
Find out the date the circus opens. Go to the Amtrak station in Cleveland about 4 AM on that date. Simple! The circus train uses the unused siding at the Amtrak station (I've seen the train there) and the shortest path from from that siding to the arena is simply right up East 9th Street, hence the photo.
Next, find out the last performance date. Figure the procession will go the other way back to the train in the wee hours of the next morning.
Further idea: Talk with the Amtrak agents and find out what they know about these movements. For a few dollars (I almost said bucks) they might even call you when something is about to happen circus train-wise.
I have seen the circus train in a number of locales around the country. This is a stunning train in every conceivable way. Just looking at the circus train causes more genuine nostalgia in me than looking at the now-former Orient Express. It's always a rare treat to see the circus train; to see the elephants parade at dawn would be thrilling.
