Two Rides to the Airport
Posted by Erie Lackawanna on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 9:27 PM

While these two shots may seem totally unrelated, they are honestly this railfans two gateways to the airports from my biz trips.  First a shot at 4th and Townsend of the Baby Bullet I took to Millbrae to the BART to SFO.  When the light is good in San Francisco, it's great.

Second shot is taken at Grand Central of the Shuttle to Times Square, which I started my trip to Newark Airport on (from there to the 6, I think, to the NJ Transit to Newark Airport Station.

Have to say, it's nice riding trains to the airport. In my career I've lived long enough to witness the addition of so many true rail connections to the airports.

I am so jealous!  I have ridden the Boston subway and the Metra to and from Chicago and was thrilled both times!  And I live where we have nothing like that even close.

And our airport, I think, is down to about 1 plane? (think fly-over country!)

So, as usual, I will study the pictures and Sigh

If you want speed to the airport try the maglev in Shanghai.  Top speed (that I photographed anyway) was 430kph or a really quick 268.75 miles per hour.  And if it wasn't for the greedy politicians and NIMBY lawyers in this country we too could have something like that between New York and Washington and other places.  GRRRR

Do you understand how much taxpayers money would have to be used to build the system you want? No way could it be done with private capitol exclusively.............

Who said private capital, let the same government that builds the interstate, builds the airports, dredges the rivers do so.  Thats what they are there for.  Guess I should have included lobyist in the above reasons that it won't happen in our lifetime.
