This story isn't well-written. You're left to infer the accident occurred in Blue Earth county and County Rd. 112 looks like it intersects the old CMO main in Lake Crystal:

I also thought the "chain of three union pacific engines" statement was ridiculous.

That's putting it kindly!
Did you really expect a technologically challenged 'journalist' to be current on modern railroad practices? I'd be willing to wager that he hasn't thought about trains since his pre-school teacher read The Little Engine That Could to the class...
I also think that a little more investigating would have been able to uncover the fate and condition of the railroaders involved. Even by today's standards, this is shoddy journalism.
My sympathy goes out to the families of the dead, the train crew and the emergency responders who had to pick up the pieces. Grade crossing accidents are SO avoidable...

It is sad that people died because of a man's inattention.
Has the incidence of this type of collision really increased recently, or is the news of such simply being broadcast more?

That title just makes it sound like the train came out of nowhere. I guess that's because the dump truck ''has'' the right of way.
TG3 LOOK ! LISTEN ! LIVE ! Remember the 3.
Well, with the Anoka crash still in the minds of the people down there, expecting the railroad to get much of a fair representation in the press isn't too likely, though they certainly deserve it.

I noticed that Country Road 12 (not 112, the map also identifies it as 515th Ave.) crosses the UP main just east of Lake Crystal. It leads me to believe that the story is in error when it refers to Country Road 112.
A terrible tragedy for sure. Didn't the UP's OLS train just pass through that area?

Anyone,
How and why does one "spray ditches" with a dumptruck?
