BNSF train with red-and-black caboose??
Posted by wjstix on Monday, May 18, 2009 4:51 PM

Saturday May 16, about 3 in the afternoon a BNSF train was running on their Twin Cities-Chicago mainline a few miles SE of St.Paul. It had three large units on the point and appeared to be a normal mainline freight train...except at the rear it had a very new looking red-and-black caboose. Red body with the upper 1/3rd and roof black.

It appeared to be an International extended vision type and was in 'like new' condition, still had all three windows on the side of the body. It wasn't an old caboose being used as a "shoving platform". It appeared to be spotless and in great shape.

It had something like a 7 or 8 letter word on the side which unfortunately I forgot before I could write it down (I was driving) that I think started with "M" but wasn't a railroad name. (It may have been four letters then three, with the first being M)

I wondered if it might belong to some company that does maybe track maintenance or some other work, or a car included for the use of some employees going along with some special shipment??

I'm stumped!! Dunce

I posted this on the Model Railroader forum but thought I would try it here too.

If it was red and a very dark green instead of black, it could possibly have been "Ferromex", a Mexican railway and being delivered from the manufacturer.

Here's a link to Ferromex showing their paint scheme.  Was it anything like this?

They're the same outfit that did a special generator haul to the Homer City Generation Station in PA.  They seem to specialize in odd movements.
