Posted by wilmette2210 on Thursday, March 5, 2009 7:26 PM

Hi I woulde like to know who locks the Metra Stations at night?  The Wilmette Metra Station for example has a ticket agent on duty from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM but the waiting room is open until 7:00 PM, who locks the station up affter the ticket agent gose off duty? I know the village is in charge of the building so would someone from the village do it?  Please let me know thank you.

The answer may vary from community to community. I know that at one time, for example, you could enter the Wheeling Metra station on the weekend even though there was no weekend service. However, the office and rest rooms were locked. John Timm

At the Rogers Park station (first stop south of Evanston on the UP-North line), I was told the lights and locks were operated via remote control.  It's a little box of a depot, but it is a place to huddle on cold mornings.  Again IIRC, a flasher and buzzer go off when it's time to get out of the station and go up the stairs to the platform.  I don't believe the station is open in the p.m.  I do know there is no station agen at any timet, hasn't been one for years and years.  (But at least there's no penalty for buying the ticket on board.)

And the cab companies won't take a time call for the address of the station.  That can be annoying.

AMEN   What I have done in that case is get the personal number of cabbies at a location with their hours of operation and call them direct with the lead time they require. Might work for you.
