MLB teams will occassionally use a train or bus for a "one off" short trip, but it's pretty much all airplane since the mid/late 1950's.

I'm trying to remember the name...[banghead] well, anyway, there was a slugger in the late fifties - a guy who took part in the original "Home Run Derby" TV show in 1960-61 - who retired at like 32 or 33 because he couldn't stand flying. Some people said if it wasn't for teams switching to airplanes, he might have made the Hall of Fame. IIRC it wasn't so much a fear of flying as it was like migranes brought on by the flights or something like that.

BTW baseball author Bill James wrote that during 1941 the American League gave preliminary approval to the St. Louis Browns to move to Los Angeles for the 1942 (or '43??) season...but then Pearl Harbor happened, and with the wartime restrictions on travel, the idea was forgotten until the era of the jetliner.
They moved the '42 Rose Bowl to Tennessee because they figured 100,000+ people at the game might be too tempting a target for Japanese carrier planes.
