Interesting about the positive comments on Conrail (I live in the western Midwest so I had no hometown experience with Conrail). They were born from the biggest railroad business disaster in history (Penn Central) and from the beloved but cash-starved EL, run initially by the government, privatized, and now they're remembered as a major success story. Very interesting, indeed.
