Let's phrase this succinctly. You don't have the integrity to ask the question, and you don't have the integrity to deserve an answer. Got it? Finally?

Mikey has claimed at various times to be ...  a senior member of management of the Milwaukee Road

This is an outright lie. Unless you can show where this was claimed, retract it.

Don't know what you've claimed, but since you post under a false name, who knows? Let's see, you claimed 12 years of law practice at one point, then 15 years in another post. Most people can at least remember how long they allegedly did something.  But "eddie" must be in trouble, if you show up exactly as you did on the Futuremodal threads when your little friends got into it.

Ahh, finally, the outright defamatory statement ...

Trains, this has been going on for five years. Every time Dave Smith/Futuremodal posted anything, it was the same small group of posters, and with one exception they are all here now, who piled on in exactly the same fashion with a series of off-topic postings which inevitably deteriorated into a full-blown verbal assault. These are playground bullies. They've been cruising around these forums with impunity for the entire five years I've been here. Now, you've got this character actively inviting a defamation "situation". This gets a little more serious. You've got a loose canon here, the same one who referred to people as "bootlicks" on prior occasions.

But, perhaps we can have some fun. I will supply credentials to one of the moderators regarding degrees in chemistry, business and law, affidavits regarding government research experience in engineering and applied metallurgy, the nearly 30 years of experience in law, including appellate practice at the Ninth Circuit, and the numerous times I have sat as a trial court judge when called in by sitting judges.

If the moderator thinks the evidence is satisfactory, he can inform blysard and LC and they will issue public, formal apologies and a permanent resignation from these forums.

Up for it?

Michael, are we to assume that all of your arguments have such merit that they are infallible?

At times I have to wonder why you participate in any discussions with us uneducated railfan riff-raff.  Are there no forums in the area of law, finance, engineering or other subjects covering your broad expertise where your knowledge would be appreciated?

I find your level of arrogance beyond most on this forum.

Let's see, when it was edblysard's arrogance, it was described recently as "not suffering fools gladly." That's OK, though, right?

There are plenty of threads -- about 99% of them -- I do not participate on because I don't know anything about the subject. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

You wouldn't notice because that's not really your point. Not posting to threads where the poster knows nothing about it would be kind of like edblysard on Titanium. Just a waste of time. I quickly concede that by not posting at all. You perhaps post differently. I know ed does.

Of course, as I have multiple law licenses in several states, my time in practice depends upon which state you are talking about or perhaps you are referring to the Federal Courts?

I would be glad to come to any thread in which you are displaying your naked arrogance with or without Ed or anyone else....

It is an honest question, no hidden agenda, and yet you fail to answer, which suggest you have no credentials to produce.

Of course, you could prove me wrong by simply listing them.

Its not an honest request, from anyone who would understand the answer.

And plenty of forum readers know exactly what my credentials are.

There are other readers who don't know your credentials, and I for one would like to know where of you speak.  You protray a lot of knowledge, why the lack of acknowledging where you earned it?

thanks,

Jared

I have, in fact, in various discussions pretty much disclosed my background and degree work, as it was appropriate and fitting for the discussion. If you missed, well, you weren't that interested then and that suggests to me this thread, like the many tiring identical blysard diatribes on the Futuremodal threads, isn't about credentials at all. But, I will say this: edblysard hasn't earned the right to ask me a d*** thing. He is the last person here who has the "right" to demand anything of anybody.

WOW, you sure do get worked up, if you will look at the number of posts that I have done, you will know that I have not been part of these discussions, I have been a member for a few years, but was not on the forums for quite some time.  How does that mean that I am not interested "then".  I would assume with your knowledge that when I said "other readers" (keyword-others) that you would know that I was not including any of your antagonists friends from this forum.  Why are you including "edblysard" in your answer to me?  If he didn't earn a right to ask you something, that is his problem, why am I included in it.  So, if I use your logic, then what all of the following posts have said must be true.  I sincerely would like to know your credentials, why is that too much to ask?

LC, you have a lot to contribute in our forums, and I appreciate the fact that you're willing to share your knowledge. However, your continued attacks against Michael Sol must stop. I know you guys have had spirited debates in the past, but within this thread you're doing nothing more than dragging him through the mud. Please, stop.

And remember, if memory serves me we could add a Y to the end of your name and start insulting you as well.

Let it go.

Interesting. Usually, if you practice law you practice law. Somewhere. Federal Courts recognize admissions to the State Bars. Why would "I" be referring to the Federal Courts as something distinct from state court admission. You are the one that claimed two completely different time frames for "practicing" law, 12 years in one post, then 15 years in another. Now you suggest Federal Courts have different admission requirements than State Bar Associations. Which states? That's not my experience. This is something we can actually look up without compromising your fake screenname identity. Which states?

You've got your full answer by email, but I want no disclosure of that information. I want to see if these guys are actually man enough to accept the fair challenge offered on their accusations. We already have one answer ... he's not.

Having not received an answer to my question from yesterday, I decided to ask again.

Michael, in what profession are you?

In a subsequent post, you reference your degree with the caveat, "not that it matters." My current profession means what to you?

I asked my question because I thought, based on your reference to a "professional society" and your comment about there being a "different standard of discourse. . .among genuine professionals", that if I knew your profession, it might help me, and perhaps others, to communicate more effectively with you.

Depending on the age and design of the loco, they might be lubricated by oil via pin-feeds, or grease fittings, best known in the US by the trade name Alemite.

If so and trying to run at the speeds we're talking about seems sustained high speed running might have been questionable.  {I'm speaking of the 150 mph speeds we've been discussing here}.....Surely press. lube would have been one necessay update necessary to try for such running.

It's one possibility. But sealed roller bearing rods are the obvious answer for sustained high-speed running, and that's a technology that has already been proven to work on modern steam.

Cheers,

Mark.

.....And it is morning.....and yes, sealed tapered roller bearings are the norm now on much rolling equipment  of RR useage, and much of any transportation equipment.

Any 150 mph steam locomotive {or other kinds of engines}, are not going to have the engineer standing out "oiling" moving parts with an oil can or even an "Alemite" grease gun at various stops.

Posted on 28 March 2006, 08:20:00 in a thread titled BNSF vs. the Pacific NE, yet another round

My engineering consultant associates did a replacement cost analysis of the Milwaukee Road PCE in 1979 and estimated then that it would cost $500 million to replace.

From the same thread, posted 21 March 2006, 12:11:43

I've worked with Leo Berry and Dan Hoven of the law firm of Browning, Kaleczyc, Berry, Hoven, a Helena, Montana law firm representing the BNSF.

Somewhere on BNSF billing records for its lawyers, there is an entry something to the effect of:

8/6/04
LB "Drive to Missoula, meet with Michael Sol, discussed superfund sites, Livingston cleanup, history of rail operations in Montana, legal liability issues, refused compensation from BNSF" 10.2 hours

Dan Hoven had been opposing counsel on some case, I don't remember now, but I had been at their firm a few times. Good people to work with. Leo called up a couple of summers ago and wanted to "discuss" the history of the BNSF and Milwaukee Road in Montana from the standpoint of pollution, spills and operations.

My academic specialty in graduate school while working on my doctorate in biochemistry had been neurochemistry and the effects of certain environmental toxins on the aging process of neurons, and for some reason from the way he phrased it I initally thought that's what he was calling me on. That was a while ago, and I was out of date on that stuff, and told him so. He said no, that he wanted to discuss more history of operations and legal implications, so I said sure, come on over.

He drove over and came to my office, and he and his assistant spent the better part of the day discussing Livingston, and some other sites. Leo said BNSF wanted to compensate me for my time and contributions. I told him no, the last pay I received from the rail industry was from the BN and Union Pacific railroads in 1980 through John Delano for some lobbying work, and that I did not care again to be in the employ of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad under any circumstances, particularly regarding matters where I believed the Company had been remiss in its legal obligations that had affected the health of innocent people.

Well, for people who actually did take history classes, and were awake, take it from a history major: the history is different than represented above.

I was either the News Editor or Managing Editor when Pete (Johnson) had his first reporting job. I don't recall now which, but I recall him as a diligent and honest reporter, and he did a good job when he moved into an editing position as well. We were putting the paper to bed late one night when the AP machine "went off," signifying an important story was coming over the wire. Pete was standing next to me when we learned that Saigon had fallen to the North Vietnamese Army.

The University sports teams I coach usually end up driving to Spokane because the combined cost of airfare savings for 5-10 people is just so much different.

Don't take it personally. My students would gladly tell you I have two rules in class: 1) there IS such a thing as a stupid question, and 2) what's it cost? The idea is -- do your homework (read the book), don't make assumptions, think about it, and calculate everything through to the ultimate financial impact. I am not well designed for Trains forums where these useful rules are inverted ...

Posted 24 July 2008, 1:43 PM on a thread titled "Could Steam Make a Comeback?"

Now, with a ten year career on my resume in Government R&D, which just happened to include managing a corrosion, surface chemistry, and metal fatigue testing laboratory for aircraft metal and parts, as part of wind tunnel testing facility, which included program certification of actual aircraft for experimental as well as commercial certification for government, Air Force, and contractor use, including both propeller and jet engine aircraft, yes, I did and do find it somewhat confrontational for someone to pretend to lecture me as to why there can be "no comparison" and as to what passes for "ludicrous" and particularly when he bases it on his own professed knowledge of "alloys". And follows it up with a condescending "I hope you feel better" as though he knew something to begin with.
