Train 476
Posted by Ted Marshall on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 3:44 PM

Up in the Rochelle area there is a daily yard job that I listen to on the Rochelle Stream of www.RailroadRadio.net. Not sure, but I think they're a UP crew. The train's engineer, I believe his name is Larry, always sings back to his conductor in a Tarzan sort-of-way his orders followed by "FOUR SEVEN SIIIIIIX" when building their train or when spotting cars.

I was wondering if any of my northern Illinois friends know anything about this job and where they're working? I just wanted to get a better understanding of who I'm listening to.

Thanks for your help.

I could be wrong here but I'll take a guess.  It's likely a BNSF switch job in their small yard, and may go and service industries east or west of town.  Full symbol would likely be either L-CHI476 or R-CHI476 (I would guess the R is correct).  As you can probably figure now, they simply call it "476" on the radio.
