BNSF derailment in Colorado
Posted by nanaimo73 on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 3:27 PM

During Wednesday morning a BNSF coal train derailed several miles south of Colorado Springs, blocking both mainlines.

Linked article contains several photographs.

If my memory is intact the two main lines are separated where the derailment happened. Perhaps there is a siging involved.

dc:

Old Santa Fe MP 651-652 (Current MP 86-88) between Crews and Fountain near the old North Fountain crossover (originally a crossing frog)....they just went by the HBD at MP 86.1...

Your memory is correct, the two lines are about 400 feet apart before they split wide going through Fountain. The locals probably have no idea what blew up there in May 14, 1888.Whistling [:-^]

Well, for those of us not in the know, what exploded and why?
