need info on NYC Westshore line

Passenger service ended in 1957. There was apparently an agreement made that in return for New York State allowing abandonment of passenger service on the West Shore and Putnam divisions, the New York Central would get new passenger cars for the remaining Hudson and Harlem lines--these being the multiple unit cars that are now being replaced. The New York, Ontario and Western also used the west shore line and went out of business around the same time--this probably made possible the abandment request. There are some pictures of NYOW equipment in Don Ball's book and I believe there was a book written about the NYO&W. <br />John Kelley, New York City
