There was nice sun on the western face of Tunnel 28 in the Santa Susana Pass Sunday afteroon and I saw three trains in give or take half an hour that I thought I would share with the group. In reverse order, Union Pacific AMIMLR-09 brings empty autoracks north toward Milpitas.

Amtrak's Central Coast Surfliner heads towards San Luis Obispo.

And finally, a Surfliner from Goleta limps through the tunnel with an engine that won't load properly.

Thank you for looking, and please don't hesitate to correct me if you see anything wrong.
Kind regards,

Thanks for the flashback Charles, I use to hang out at that very spot when I lived in Van Nuys (91-96). Nice pictures. If I remember right you live in Santa Monica, do you have any pics of the line in the Olympic / 26th st area, or anywhere else in SM for that matter?
Chad,
That's correct, but I have no pictures of any trains on the Santa Monica Branch. They usually came this far west at night (they ran by USC in the early morning when I was there, but I was a knucklehead at that age and never shot them). As to the trains this far west, last one I saw was about 1987 or 1988, crossing Venice Blvd. I thought I should go home and get a camera, but I was a lazy sloth and didn't bother. Never saw one again.

Too bad, I worked at Century Cable from 91 to 96 on Nebraska and always wondered about those tracks and where they once went and what customers there were. But I know what you mean about night freights (hard to catch) as well as not taking those pictures you should have.
