For the past few days (on the CN, north of Neenah along Stroebe road) there a two string of cars. One is on the Shawano sub and the other is in the siding on the line to Green Bay. Both are long, and fill up the siding. What I have not seen is that on the north end of both of these strings is a portable air compressor with lines attached to both of the thses strings. My simple (literally) question is, why the ac?
thanks,
Jaed
ps-twice this past weekend when waving to crew received a wave back.
The air crompessor is to keep the air charged up in the trainline, this is so that the train that picks these cars up does not have to do an initial terminal air test on them. Saves the crew picking up the cars depending on the number of cars a few hours of time. Around here we have some sidings that have air hoses running underneath the street so if they have to shuttle a train outside the terminal they can keep the trainline charged and the crossings cut.
The crew going to get these trains only need to couple up the crossings, see that air is being restored to the rear of the train, and take off. Saves a lot of time not having to redo the air test.

Hey, hey buddy...watch that inflammatory language or I might report you for offending me
Thanks to the both of you for your replies. I think that I should have known that about having to re-check the entire line of cars. As it is, both are quite long, didn't count but would guess that both are close to or over 100.
Thanks "eolafan" for your caution to me, I don't know what came over me to say such a thing as that. I think that we need a smiley with flames coming off his (its) head for those "inlfammatory" comments, that way we wouldn't have to read them, we could just report them and lock them without going to all the trouble.

Hey, that kind of talk offends me. I may have to report you for threatening to report someone.

Good one zardoz, you are definitely "in the groove" of sarcasm on this thread.
