This is true. The dispathcer covers a territory that is usually 500 miles. Within the 500 miles there is usually 3or 4 main line channels in use. There is no way that the dispatcher could know that they are not calling out the signals, unless he was on there radio, and if he was on there particular radio base. Basically the only time the dispatcher really knew something was wrong, was at the second the red light went off saying someone ran a red signal. Once that Alarm went off the dispatcher (I would think he would at least) starts to panic. He knows there are two train making a meet at that siding, and now one of them has run a red signal. He should also get an emergency brake application from the GPS on the train. He more than likely tried to call both trains, and neither one answered. But then again if you were hiding on the floor would you be worried about answering the radio. I know I would not, not until it was all over. The dispatcher would have automatically sent out police, fire, and ems to make sure everything is ok. Granted I am not a dispatcher, so I cant say exactly what went through his mind. But most is common since, and since BNSF uses GPS on there motors, he could get an exact location. Or at least with in a few 1000 feet or so.
