Chasing the 3985 on Wed morning
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 1:11 AM
Can anyone tell me where some good spots are to photograph the 3985 on the Illinois side near East St Louis ? I don`t want to travel too far, after having worked all night before.

Would appreciate any information as I`m not familiar with that side for chasing.

If I were you, I would try to get it photographed coming over the MacArthur Bridge near Route 3 in Illinois. Otherwise you will have to do some driving down towards Dupo, IL or something to get some photos. Not a lot of good areas in East St. Louis for pics...

Thanks for the tip, Mark, and I didn`t figure there were too many good spots in East St Louis. I`m wondering if it is okay to pull off I-70 to photograph the train crossing the Mac Arthur Bridge or not, as the Illinois State Police get kind of iffy about those things.

I`m also wondering if the Thebes Bridge, where it will cross back into Missouri, would present a good location for a bridge shot.

Take the Poplar Street Bridge over the Mississippi into Illinois and take a right onto Route 3 South and pull over on Route 3 somewhere. You can get decent views back up onto the bridge deck from there I would guess. Or catch it on the Missouri side around Ralston Purina by the eastbound approach. Plenty of safe places to park for pics there...

I`ll try the Illinois side Thursday morning, Mark, so the sun will be behind me. I just hate shooting into the sun and the rear of the train. :)

that way, I`ll be in better position to give it chase as well.

Thanks again.

Where is the 3985 headed? What is its final destination?
