Last year, the Utah Transportation Authority (UTA) purchased a number of Metra double deckers in coach and cab car configuration for use on the upcoming "commuter rail" trains. UTA also bought, or leased, the UP shops in the North Salt Lake Yard. Currently, the commuter cars are parked in three rows behind the shops and are visible from the 600 North overpass. A local news station did a story on the Metra cars noting that they were purchased back in the days when businessmen went to work dressed in suits. UTA's commuter rail is scheduled to start in 2007.
