Favorite Fallen Flag Railroad

  • My favorite railroad was the Former Delaware Lackawanna & Western railroad. Although they couldn't match the other railroads in Miles of track owned, they could still make their railine as straight and level as possible. It was just such a unique railroad.

  • What a useless poll Any poll w/o an "other" option is comletley useless. My favorite is IC followed by ATSF, then BN, and then C&NW
  • The "old women". I enjoy the history. NYO&W.

  • Louisville & Nashville, my second would be NC&StL
    Probably due to my locality

I'm sorry about this to all you corail guys, i just didn't like the Conrail name, cuz they ruined my fav. the LV, i'm terrbly sorry for this[:(][V][*^_^*][*^_^*][oops][sigh][tdn]

  • B&O Seaboard System and Chessie period. Then Southern,IC, N&W, and EL
I like NS but CSX has the B&O.
  • Where is NEW HAVEN???

AND, B&O IS NOT AMERICA'S FIRST RAILROAD - that belongs to a Quarry RR in Mass, which later became part of the New Haven. Their charter pre-dates the B&O.

  • Well, my favourite roads (Southern Pacific, Santa Fe and Texas & Pacific) are not mentioned in your poll, but when it comes to eastern roads it´s definetly C&O. C&O just had very impressive steam locos, those famous coal trains and very beautiful painted passenger trains.
  • Sentimentally, I miss my hometown (branch)line, the C&NW. The Milwaukee road was a little more exotic for me-no mere granger but a transcontinental! The Green Bay & Western was a hometown team (in Green Bay we like our hometown teams). I have a soft spot for the Wabash (passed through my mother's home town-though it was N&W by my time, I enjoyed the occasional freight running through without slowing down).
But if I would have to have just one back, it would have to be the Standard Railroad of the World.

  • Okay, I voted for C&O, because CSX is my favorite railroad and the C&O's predecessor was CSX. By the way, I'm not being picky or anything, but what about NYC? [%-)]

  • Gee, the Monon ran right past my back yard when I was growing up in NW In. It has to be the Monon.
  • MoPac!, Eagle Blue and Gold has to be the best color combination ever! Modern power, profits, and pioneering spirit makes the MoPac much better than the UP 4 me.

    1. MoPac
    2. Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe
    3. Southern
    4. Louisville & Nashville
    5. Denver, RIo Grande, & Western
    6. Milwaukee Road
  • The lack of Clinchfield poses as a problem [:)] And other button, perhaps? Of the choices, I'd have to vote C&O or B&O, or any of the Chessie System for that matter.
