  • It is official. On gmemd.com under press releases, GM has agreed to sell EMD. The sell should close the first quarter of this year. The press release was dated 1/15/2005. OH WELL...

  • The sale will happen no earlier then the first quarter and in the quarter they find a buyer!
  • Thats a shame, I liked the company EMD, they made great locomotives.
  • YOU MEAN TO SAY THAT EMD IS NO MORE?![:(!][:(!][:(!][V][}:)][}:)][:O][*^_^*][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][X-)][censored][censored][censored][%-)][soapbox][soapbox][soapbox][soapbox][soapbox][soapbox]

This is not cool :( I don't want GM to get rid of EMD. I think I might have to go right on down to the GM HQ and knock them upside the head. Why couldn't they get rid of Saturn or something they have to get rid of the best locomotive builder in the entire North American Continent!?????////// I'm ticked off about that. Well, all I can say is that I hope the new owners of EMD don't demolish it. If they do I'll really be upseat. CRAP.

  • As has been mentioned elsewhere, EMD has been sold to raise cash for GM's pension obligations and as part of a return by General Motors to its core business of automobiles.

  • [%-)]Will the new owners buy the HTCR truck and FIRE elctronics from GM so that they can build locomotives with HTCR-III trucks?????

I am sure that is one reason that it is being sold, but GM has made so much money with GMAC that building locomotives is not something they want to keep on doing. They have had EMD on the market on and off for twelve years or so if I remember correctly.

IF GM sells the division, BNSF might come back as a buyer, since they stopped buying GM diesels after the auto contract went to Union Pacific exclusively.
  • Sometimes ago I opened the thread below to talk about the possibility of GE take over GM. Do you remember?[;)]
