  • The host, imho, was "over-the-top" on the first episodes, but he's toned it down a bit and is enthusiastic enough to keeps the show interesting.

I saw the episode with the Union Pacific 844.  Great episode with good info provided as to how and where its maintained, what it takes to fire it up, the professionals that keep it in good, running condition, etc.  The 844 is a beauty!

  • Too bad a show like this didn't come out before all the mergers. The show is very interesting and yes, the host is a bit 'over enthusiastic. It also makes the N/S and UP railroads sound like they are very friendly. They are NOT.

I'm sure they each agreed to allow the filming of the show to get money. The filming group probably had to pay a good chunk a change to each railroad involved (so far UP and N/S)

The show is very informative and interesting.

  • If a person can put up with the host long enough, there are wonderful tidbits of railroad info here and there that I've not found anywhere else. Though I've been alternately annoyed by him and bored by him  I've really enjoyed learning more about trains.

  • The host is very annoying, waiving his hands constantly and saying the same things over and over, and why do we constantly need so many close-ups of his face against the camera lens.  II would much rather have someone "off camera" explaining things in a calmer voice and giving us more information, like when riding in the engine, tell us how the engineer controls the train as it reaches the top of a hill and starts down the other side, not just saying "wow, he's got to be careful not to lose control".

  • "Extreme Train coming to the HISTORY Ch." was the thread on the General Discussion Forum. As of today, the last post was on 1-4-09.

I saw one episode, and I agree that the host could have let more of the active railroaders describe what they were doing. Considering the producer, I would say that the series was an attempt to inform the non-railfan public about this wonderful form of transportation: steel wheels on steel rails. I might watch more episodes of a re-run.

  • From what they said the other night apparently you can go on line and watch the shows there.

  • I also like the show.

  • My boys have the DVR set up to record every episode.  I think it is pretty cool as well.

  •  The host may be "over the top" at times, but then again, who among us would not be when given the chance to host a show about the biggest loves of that they have? (Yes, my wife, Nicholle, has learned to share my love with trains.)

They have all 8 episodes, so far, on iTunes. I have that and about 1000 photos of different locomotives and trains on my iPod, much to the chagrin of my shipmates.

The guy is excited, but whom of us would not be?

(Possibility of me, as the Navy is keeping me drugged up to keep pain levels fron an on base incident within tolerable levels.)

In short, Extreme trains and it's host rules, and Connecticut (and the Navy) sucks.

So many scales, so many trains, so little time.....
