WC's SD45 fleet sent to the scrapper

  • I drove by Woodcrest on 7/16/06 at about 6PM becasue I-80/294 being its usual stopped dead due to construction and saw three tracks of five each of WC SD45s in the southeast corner behind the loco shop.  These are the same tracks the Algoma Central F units sat on for over a year.  They are very dirty but I guess that is to be expected.  I am surprised the IC doesn't replace some of the CN junk they are running with some of them.  Paint wise they are ten times better than what is being used currently.  Don't know about mechanicals though.
  • doesnt look like any have been sold. they're all going to die... game over for one of the greatest locomotives of all time

  • I'll try getting some shots of 7637. Hopefully it will be visable from a public road like the 3 lines of them just off the road near the shops. 7500, 7581, and 7589. Thats too bad since I saw 7589 running with DWP SD40 5905, something I'm sure that will never happen again. 7513, the Richard B. Ogilvie was also deadlined. I couldn't get the best shot of it, but its better then nothing. I did get some decent shots of 7517 and 7585, and they have a BCR C40-8M behind them.

  • WC 7519 was on M337 last night. It's been awhile since a WC SD45 has been seen on the Chicago Division.

  • Could someone with connections score me one of the front numberboards off a SD45? Doesn't matter which number. I'll gladly send money ($20 ought to cover it)! Big Smile [:D]

  • Well, here are my two latest shots from the deadline. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=152009 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=146106. Thats too bad, I had seen 7589 running along with DWP 5905. Both of them are now out of service. That BC Rail C40-8M was a big surprize to me. I don't know why it was deadlined. I have now seen every paint scheme possible on CN except BLE at Homewood. I even saw a WC SW1500 not long ago. Hopefully, no more SD45s will end up in the deadline.

  • still looking to get that handbrake. someone please help me! shame that both number boards are gone.
these SD45s were the coolest. i swear, locomotives are getting uglier and uglier and uglier

  • The guys I know of will probably only sell cracked ones. And Im pretty sure they are saved for someone at this point. If your in Illinois, take the time to roll over there, and pick them up for yourself, as I dont think many will be selling them.

Also, the WC 7522 was down here today. Great to see!

  • I just saw 7528 with the V stripes yesterday at Homewood. Here are all he SD45s I have seen at Homewood in the deadline. 6620, 6621, 7518 (V Stripes), 7528 (V Stripes), 6595, 7500, 7581, 7589, 7513 (Richard Ogilvie) and 7517. There are only a few of these, however, that can be photographed without going into the yard. On another note, I have heard at least three reports of pure WC lash-ups in Illinois, at least one of which had a pair of SD45s. In addition, I have also heard a report that WC 6001, as well as DWP SD40s 5908 and 5911, are being scrapped in East St. Louis. DWP 5905 still has not been touched. As far as numberboards, all except 7528 and 7517 have had them either removed by CN or stolen.

  • Ive heard of those Lashups too!

    6497-7501 was the SD45s
    7498-some SD40-2, possibly 6006, was another.

And yesterday I had the WC 7527 lead 3 other units (IC 6134,GCFX 6042,WC 6949) out of New Brighton.

  • http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=153333 Here is my photo of the V striped 7528. CN hasn't dismantled it at all yet. I much rather would see it running though, along with the dozens of other SD45s at Homewood. Not only did they put more SD45s in the deadline, they were using CN GP9Rs for switching instead of the IC SW14s. Blah! Hopefully this doesn't start SW14 replacements. There seems to be more GP9Rs every time, and less SW14s. CN also seems to be using the blue "IC" C40-8Ws and "IC" Dash 9s more then IC standard cab SD70s on intermodals also. There is a occasional WC GP38-2 or GP40-2 that seems to show up on the IC. I haven't seen a SD45 run on the IC since 7589 was paired up with DWP 5905.

Well not actually, but I work in the life size WC simulator and it is based off of WC SD45 7528. Great Puller.
