Favorite modern locomotive

  • For all of us who love trains a modern engine is always a topic of dicussion. Then I sit and try to imagine the strength one of these brutes posses...simply awesome! AC6000CW tops my list.
  • For the person who wondered about the lack of a 75MAC, I point you to the 90MAC, 4300HP, same as a 75.

Anyways, 70 series is the greatest, especially in ONRails new scheme.

  • I run 'em everyday, and definately the SD70M's are the best unit out there right now, they ride good, pull well, are quiet, good dynamic brakes, and best of all they don't have that GE problem of loading when they are good and ready, the 70's load right up.

  • Even though it is far from being modern, my favorite diesel-electric locomotive is the EMD F-series. I think they have one of the best stream-line look of any locomotive ever built.

  • I have got to say the SD90MAC, nothing can beat 6,000 h.p.! But if you want to go back further in history I have got to say any ALCO/MLW locotmotive, the sound and the look of them are just un-mistakeable. And besides I hate GE diesels, G.E. should stick to makeing home-appliances. Thats my personal philosophy, sorry if that up-sets anyone that likes GE locomotives.
I love the smell of ALCo smoke in the Morning. "Long live the 251!!!" I miss the GBW and my favorite uncle is Uncle Pete. Uncle Pete eats Space Noodles for breakfast.
