Old Magazines

  • I have a box of of old Model railroader magazines from the mid 1960's, very good shape. Are they worth anything? Does anyone want them? I'm in the western chicago suburbs (lagrange). 708-354-4334, chrisc2@sbcglobal.net.

    Thanks , Chris

  • Since 75 years of Model Railroader came out on DVD the actual magazine collections have dropped way off in value.

They were not worth very much before the DVD came out.  - Note: not a criticism of MR or any other magazine.  There are a very few magazines in demand by collectors, but most used magazines are only worth what (if anything)  a recycler will pay for them although you could get lucky and find someone willing to pay a little more for them.

You might be able to find a nearby Model Railroad club or library willing to take them.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

  • That is what I did. The IRS did not question the price on the cover as the basis for value.
  • I recently put all my MR, RMC, NMRA Bulletins and Narrow Gauge Gazettes in paper cycling. Those all went back many years. That is all they are good for. I scanned some articles into my PC before tossing.

Next will be Walther's catalogs that go back quite a few years.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
