Man what's the point of posting projects you sweated for 8 hours to make when nobody gives a rip >_<
Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.
Well, the past few days I've caught four EJ&E led trains, another State Line with CN 6028 leading again (it did not fail this again though). I also caught a CN GP9RM on the Phoenix job. I also went to Homewood and saw two Js switching, as well as a GTW pair on a local. Pretty good stuff! Unfortunatly my computer was b/oed (I'm sounding like CN!) and I won't be able to post them until at least Friday.
Atmo, that's really neat! What is it made out of? I can't tell if it's wood, metal, or something else entirely...
Actually it's Aluminum! The easiest metal to machine too. It looks odd because i beadblasted it after i finished machining it. Gives it a smoother finish.
I'll be able to do that next year.
Aluminum... Huh. Is it solid aluminum, or hollow? So what are you going to do with it?
Heres a pic i took the other day when me & my freind were bummin around
Yes i got my camera back
Well got another photo,
today after school my mom wanted to run out to amherst cuz a lady at work told her about this guy who sold plants for a decent price & sure enough his place was right by the train tracks. i saw this go by. the guy who ran the place happened to like trains as well. he also had a CN Calendar in his greenhouse which i shoulda asked where he got it.
Atmo, that is really neat! Should look nice hanging up on the wall.
Nice shots Brent, those LMS units are really beat up.
Jordan, now the LS&I is getting SD40-2's? From who?
I know Ive been gone for a while, just kinda got busy and forgot about the forums. Since early April I have seen/shot a few good things. Took a trip out to South Dakota and Southern Minnesota to shoot the BNSF's 601 roadfreight that runs from Aberdeen to Willmar. Oh, and it had four SD40-2's for power, the first two in swoosh! 7888,6885,6376, and the 1787(BN green). Now, the 6376 is renumbered, and this consist is split up. The 602 (sister train) is now using three Dash 2's along with the three on 601. When I went out there the 602 got screwed by a Dash 9 leader (they needed another motor in Aberdeen), but had the 6384, the 6821 (Swoosh), and the 1994(BN Green). Then, the second day we shot the West end of the DME in Minnesota at Tracy and points west. First train was CP 488 in De Smet, SD with SIX SD40-2's! A perfect merger consist as well. CP 5729 (Dual Flags), CP 6053, CP 59XX, DME 6089, ICE 6424, and ICE 6456 (snoot). Then, the counterpart, CP 489, had a nice matched set with the DME 6071, ICE 6414(I think?), and the DME 6052. So, four trains, 16 SD40 models (a few were SD40-3's). Since then, not too much has been going on. Did shoot a nice CP 383 with the NS 8872 leading (Spartan Cab) Dash 9, and it actually stayed leading all the way until Glenwood. Its quite rare for the CP to have foriegn power past Saint Paul now, thanks to CP 599's being abolished. Those usually had 3 UP engines, as they were straight off the UP at South Saint Paul. Oh, and I shot the two CNW's on one of their last runs, added a few more UP Dash 2's to the roster, but thats really it for really great catches. Check my site if your interested in the shots,
Alec
That's pretty sweet Max!
You've caught a ton of Deuces Alec lately. I've been following along your RRPA account. I saw only two SD40 models since the start of the year on the CN (I've seen 7 total this year). CN has been getting bad on power this year. Although, I give them credit for paring up two WCs in MI, and sending a TON of BCRail units here in WI. Do you have any idea why there have been so many? I also won't complain CN sending some EJE units to Wisconsin, so I guess it's not all bad (Robby is probably going to shoot me now!). I just seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I also heard the LS&I is getting SD40-2s instead of SD60s, and this summer or so they will be replaced. I'm not sure where they are getting the -2s from, but that is what I heard.

Well, today absolutely sucked. First off, once again, there wasn't jack happening at Pokegama until a Stack train came by. That's when the day started sucking. Upon my U-Turn, I get stuck. Big time. No one's around, no one's driving by, and I know no one. Finally, after two hours, my cheap backside caves, and calls the tow truck. 89 bucks later, I'm on my way again, missing two trains during the time. There appeared to be a train entering the yard with a loco on the back, possibly a J, but at this point, I'm so far out of it that I race across the Blatnik back home. Worse, I find that DM&IR 403 had left the yard(I had planned on scoping for J units, and coming back before 403 left). However, things are looking up at Adolph, as I see the tail end of 403's train leaving, giving me time to get in front of it at Munger. In the mean time, a CN mixed freight kept me entertained, as did what appeared to be a BNSF stack running over the DW&P bridge nearby(BTW, when did BNSF start using DPUs on their Intermodals?) Finally, 403 rumbles around the corner, and races past. Unfortunately, for the second day in a row, the mirage of a second Missabe unit once again turns out to be a bust(and a dirty one in the form of an IC repaint). 407 was incredibly clean, though.
Alec, On the wall, you say? I like the idea! Now I just gotta figure out how the mount the thing.... :P
sounds like you've been busy too. UP just feng shui'd the schedule here again and now I dont know what comes or when it comes or blahhhh. But I also saw the duo's last run:
this was a very fast MSSPR too. the new crew was there ready to go when the train pulled in. I followed it to the east crossing and watched it leave. The last time a CNW locomotive would lead a train through Altoona was that night....I beared witness.
There's my whole roster of HO motive power. CNW dominant of course! My poor E7 needs coaches to pull though....And I need money!
Ok...now for the REALLY good stuff!
On the week of easter, we drove my brother back to college in Madison. I went with and boy was I glad I did. Look what I got!
My first WSOR! And it's a special scheme unit and everything!
Other misc WSOR power was also sitting around in the yard. I shot it as well. Limied to a fenced in area though. Yes I was poking the camera through a chain link fence
Aaaand last but not least, we have this nice freshly repainted MP15AC!
What a weekend!
Last run for the CNW duo? Are they being stored, scrapped, or repainted?
TrainManTyLast run for the CNW duo? Are they being stored, scrapped, or repainted?
It was explained on Wisrail. But the duo was due for their inspections and UP didnt want to pay to inspect now-old locomotives. Omaha emailed Proviso ordering them to store both of them by May 1st. However, Proviso pulled a few strings and was able to keep them around for the CNWHS excursion. They are planned to be stored after that.
UP had only kept them alive for so long because it wasn't costing them any additional money to do so. In fact, patching or painting them would cost them more money than keeping them around as-is would. So they decided to be nice about it. But in order to continue doing this, they would need to pay for their inspections now. And with several C44-9Ws already in storage, they just didnt want to front the cash.
They'll be back, the economy is still bad, and engines are still getting stored. When the economy picks up again I'd expect the CNWs to be back in service. BNSF has even began to put the SD75Ms into storage, as well as some of the C40-8Ws. CP is storing a bunch of the SOO SD60s and SD60Ms It's bad now, but I expect that a lot of this stuff will return, so it's something to look forward to.
Jordan, stop bragging about stealing my engines, including 665 and a J-ball! Remember, we gave you the 666 also, so you'll finally get to see a 666 unit.Yes indeed, the tables are turning! All joking aside, if you go up to the LS&I, 674 is up in that area.
I did catch 657 and 663 going light out to Eola today, a refreshing sight to see another pure orange consist!
CN was at it's finest again here, it took them 2 hours to run M342 from CTC East Normantown (CN calls it South Normantown now, but w/e), to CTC Turner. They had three broken crossings and two frozen signals, and had to stop and flag all five problems. They made M343 wait in the siding at Turner for all of this mess.
