New Metra Locomotives

Hi. Can anyone tell me information about those new Metra Locomotives (very stylish[8D])? They are similar to Amtrak's Genises and are now becoming standered the Milwaukee District North Line (new air horn too).Thanks!

We are seeing them regularly on the BNSF line to Aurora these days. I also think they are very stylish and sound great to me as well. Their sound is vaguley remiscent of an E9, especially when in dynamic breaking for some reason. Their horns are really nice sounding to me and I really like the color scheme. For some reason they seem to be easier to keep clean (except the area right above the nose...i.e. the "eyebrow"). Jim in Aurora, IL

MPI isn't that new and ironically, rebuilt the BN E9's in the 1970's when it was a division of Morrison-Knudsen. It was later spun off as a separate operation and went through several name changes along the way.

The model for the locomotive is MP36PH-3S and 27 of them have been ordered by Metra as replacements for the F40C's and additional power for expanded service.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

No they are not! Besides, who cares? They are a lot cleaner than those F40C's and don't have to work as hard. They travel smoothly, too. F40C's were power-guzzeling, and they really polluted the air with tons of diesel smoke. The new locomotives are also faster and shorther (and lightweight).

yea right faster did u ride on them i rode on on and it was so dam late it wasnt funny i ewas happing ween i got a f40c on the way back at lest i will know i will get to cus with one unit and wont brake down the f40c might be 30 years old but there do alot better job then the mps ae doing and if there were so good the f40c will not be running since there have all the mps now there had the 1 st one for over a year now and there run like ween there 1 st got that one and there are over weight and u cant see anything out of them and u cant see the back of your train were there put the seat lets see lets put a post right were u sit so u cant see ourt side
