Water Level Route
I wish I had it!

I'm lucky to have one in my collection:

There is a descriptive card inside, too!

Including one of the RPO cars that may have been where my letter was cancelled:

Looks like I've Topped Off here!

How about some 'crab Cakes Benedict' ala Amtrak?

Don't expect to order this on any of the 'snack cafe' cars being run on today's Amtrak, sadly.

A reverse image search?

Sure would like to find out how to do that.

You can upload images to Google search (and probably Bing as well). I've only used it a bit, uploading the snow scene image did find it on Xitter.

Good Morning Diners.  Zoe, raisin toast and coffee please.

Glad it's Friday.  It's been a rough week for my household between goings on at work, school, and among friends.  Going to have to find something to lighten the mood for everone this weekend.  Not sure what yet.

I have a friend who has been trying to get me into RC trucks lately.  He was a model railroader (actually more of a toy train guy), but doesn't have room in his current house.  I've been trying to get him into a smaller scale so he can do something and he responded with this.  He's closer to winning than I am.  I've thought about getting an RC vehicle of some sort again for years.  I won't put the money into it he has though.  I've got a layout to play with! Big Smile

Cheers guys!

Hi gang!

Sometimes I think that the best time of the year is when February is over! I guess if you live in southern climes that might not make much of a difference to you, but for those of us in the North, it gives us a sense of relief that warmer weather is just around the corner.

The end of the month also means that we have to move the Diner, so where do you want to go? Over the last few months we have gotten away from our older practice of parking the Diner in one location and then studying the local railroading points of interest. We could go back to that if somebody wants to choose a location, or we could continue to attach the Diner to various trains. Other suggestions are most welcome too.

Please speak up if you would like to move the Diner. It takes all of five minutes to do it and you will be doing your part to keep the tradition alive.

Cheers!!

Dave

Good (late) afternoon Diners.   The younger granddaughter's Birthday Party has finished and everyone has gone home.  The making of tea and juice is over I need something stronger.

A large Pusser's Rum please, Flo.

Dave  Wherever  the Diner goes suits me.  I can only join in now and again.  Another stay in hospital  is required.   I feel okay, but the doctor's are worried that the pneumonia that has  settled next to a lung  could be hiding cancer cells.   I do not believe it so.

I have ordered some new rolling stock.  Hopefully I shall see them this week.

Good soggy Sunday morning to all.

I am fine with wherever the Diner ends up. A location or a theme is OK with me though I think a theme gets more participation from a larger number of diners over a location. The high Sierra is always a favourite as I love mountain railroading.

We lost a dear friend last week, an amazing man. He used to quietly tell me that Pediatric medicine lost a brilliant mind when my wife chose Veterinary medicine. He was hilarious and understood my sense of humour which made for enjoyable times. We feel an emptiness with him gone.

I had mentioned earlier that Grandpa wanted to see our kids so we had them all over for dinner. He ended up giving his mint BMW 530I to my daughter and a five-figure cheque to my son for their upcoming honeymoon. I have taken the BMW out twice for rips and that thing moves. I had it North of 200kph at the touch of the gas pedal. We were just about to buy my daughter a vehicle for a grad present so will put that money aside for her. She can buy a vehicle down the road or use it to help her buy a home.

I still have all my son's R/C stuff. He has an R/C hovercraft that I like to play with as you can run it off the land into the lake and rip around on the water with it. I have a small drone I like to fly around the backyard when out on the patio with a drink at the end of the day. I used to torment the dogs with it but now they just look at me with that face that says, "really!"Laugh

I feel great but don't feel like doing much today as it has been one of those weeks. I have messaged my son to see if he wants to go to the Flying Beaver for brunch. It is at the floatplane base at Vancouver International Airport lots of action while we down our eggs benny.Dinner

All the best to all.

My BC30 when it was still the PGE.

Whoever does this, please remember to add Jim Hediger to the RIP Track in the first post.  I don’t have his avatar nor do I know how to find it.  I think Kevin used to do that for us, be we haven't lost a member for a while and Kevin's been gone longer than that.

Perhaps I should follow my own advice and engage brain before typing the following.
I thought that the RIP Track was for former Forum members/ contributors, so not withstanding his outstanding contribution to Model Railroading in general, is Jim Hediger eligible for entry into the RIP Track?

Thoughts, please.

Good Morning Diners.  Flo, coffee please.

Have to get in touch with HR today as I did my taxes over the weekend.  That was unpleasant.  Have to get more held out of my paycheck.  This year hurt!

Speaking of hurt, my oldest is in Belize for a study abroad trip over her spring break.  She was having pain in her side for a few days prior to leaving.  At the last minute she went to urgent care and was diagnosed with an infection in her rib cartilage, but was cleared to travel.  The professors involved with the trip were not pleased to hear about her situation, but did not bar her from going.  Their in country guide's wife is a nurse so they made her get in touch with her as soon as they got to their destination.  The nurse is not happy she was cleared to travel and has been keeping in contact with my daughter throughout the day each day she is there.  Has us really concerned, but the only thing to do at this point is pray and be ready to head to Belize should this turn into something more serious.  Poor kid just seems to have one thing after another going on.

I've had two R/C vehicles in my lifetime.  One a big 4x4, one a dune buggy.  I enjoyed them both, but the dunebuggy was my favorite.  I'm ready to pull the trigger on the one my buddy is trying to get me to buy (another big 4x4), but I can see this turning into two R/C cars before too long with another dune buggy type in my future.  Good thing my wife is understanding.

I was thinking even more restrictive.  I thought it was for those diner members who headed to the big roundhouse in the sky.  Confused

Good morning, diners.  Flo, I'll have bacon, eggs, and coffee, please.

We just got back from another grandkids visit.  It's easier for us to go to them than for them to come to us.  All three boys are on basketball teams, and it seems like their BB season lasts 51 weeks.

Some of you have commented on buying a car online.  I'm too old -- I still want to kick the tires.  We'll be visiting a few lots to get an idea of what my wife wants.  She'll be looking for what she wants -- I'll be looking for something that won't wipe out the retirement funds.

For our two diner questions:

1.  Anywhere the diner lands is fine with me.  I'll second Brent's suggestion of the trains in the Sierra Mountains.

2.  I guess I always thought the RIP track was for former Diner patrons.  Whichever way it goes, it certainly doesn't matter to me.

Mike, I hope everything goes OK with your daughter.  All of us with children sure know how things like this worry you.

David, I also hope the doctors are able to get to the bottom about your health issues.

Andy certainly was.  I thought it a thrill when he answered one of my first posts about 2015 (I think).  That response told me right from the outset that folks with big names in the hobby were not the "high and mighties" that I thought they might be.

Good Morning,

Winter came back last night with 5" of the white stuff. A mild 35F today but the temp plunges to 3 tomorrow and -18 at night. Glad I did a grocery run yesterday.

Mike, cross fingers that your daughter gets home ok.

Brent, what year is the Bimmer?  Be prepared for high maintenance costs. An oil change on my Volvo is $250 and expect more for a Bimmer. Nice car though. Our vet had one and he really liked it. His was a rare 5 spd manual as he liked shifting.

Hope to get Ian Wilson's latest book in a couple of weeks. He says it will be the last one he will do. They are very well done for anyone interested in steam in Ontario. I have them all.

Coffee time again.

Jim may not have actually stopped in the Diner but I do recall that he made several contributions to the Forum and I believe that should be enough to bestow the honor upon him.

This would probably work for an icon. (He WAS an icon wasn't he?)

Yes, the RIP Track is for those members who have left us for the Big Roundhouse in the Sky, or perhaps for the big hot basement layout downstairs.

Hi David,

I hope you are right!

Here's hoping that the pneumonia goes away as quickly as possible. I had pneumonia when I was in university and I still remember how debilitating it was.

I agree with Ed. I think it would be petty to not add him to the RIP track. Even if he didn't post on the forums, his name was invoked many, many times. His expertise certainly added to the quality and accuracy of the forum discussions.

Amen to that sentiment. The RIP Track is a great addition to the Diner, but it should honor those model railroaders no longer with us who have departed to the roundhouse in the sky. That should include forum members, even non-Diners, and even some non-forum members who have had an influence on us. Those who have fled the forum should still be honored on the RIP Track once they have passed away. Meanwhile, abandonment is not sufficient. Smile, Wink & Grin

Hi Rich,

The only caveat that I would add is that the RIP listings should be limited to people who have 'recently' passed away who made significant contributions to the forums. As to how we define 'recent' is a subject for discussion, but my point is that if we were to list everyone who has passed away over the years, I think the RIP feature would become very cumbersome and perhaps lose the focus that it currently provides. Currently, the RIP section is still quite manageable so I think the best approach would be to continue to add notable forum contributors as they pass away, but I'm not in favour of going back in time. My 2 Cents

Cheers!!

Evening

I've been sick for about 7-8 weeks now, but still doing my job down the hall.

SICK!, is when something looks really good, not feeling nasty for weeks on end.

They wanted to put me into the medical clink upon my visit, as walking pneumonia can develop complications they said.

No, ... I'm not checking into the hospitality clink.  I'll be continuing green and black tea, taking vitamin C, and just wait and see if things start feeling a bit better while working down the hall.

My cough is getting a little better, but still sound like Darth Vader when talking to my fellow hallmates...Laugh

Yikes...Please send a postcard if you got oneSmile, Wink & Grin
