Good Morning Diners.  Brunhilda, coffee, a doughnut, and coffee please.  Stupid dog kept me up most of the night...

Kids.  My oldest is taking a study abroad trip over her spring break (leaves in 2 days).  The trip the university set up requires the kids to meet at their jump off point on campus at 3:15am.  The kids cannot drive there as they cannot leave their vehicles.  The 12-18 kids that are going have all been scrambling for weeks trying to figure out how they are going to safely get there.  (Walking across campus alone at night is NOT a good idea)  Why the university didn't plan to have one of their buses and a driver pick the kids up from their various locations is beyond me. (The buses stop running at 10 or 11 pm)  No taxis.  None of us feel comfortable having a young, pretty girl get an Uber by herself in the middle of the night.  It hit a point last night that the professor involved with the trip started pleading on the group text for someone that figured out a ride to pick up the kids that were still in a bad spot.  Finally one of the other girls spoke up that there are three of them walking to the rendezvous point together, coming from the same neighborhood and my daughter could join them.  Great!  Where are they coming from?  Same dorm my daughter is in!  Why didn't they speak up until late last night?!?!Bang HeadBang Head Incredible.

A reverse image search? Sure would like to find out how to do that.

This is one that I use:

I'm not entirely well versed in its functionality but haven't really spent much time exploring it.  YMMV.

If I got a prescription for craft beer, I'd probably need GoodRx to keep fees low unless it's covered by Medicare.

On a different subject, I finally decided I'd  had enough of the pop-ups and advertising on this site.  So I installed an ad blocker.  The only reason i did that was for this site.  I don’t spend enough time on any other site where the advertising so interrupted whatever i was doing.

The only side effect I can detect, John, is a craving for single malt Scotch. I have a prescription for that.

Single malt scotch can also be purchased as an over-the-counter drug, but a prescription is preferred for insurance coverage purposes.

Well in that case I'll be keeping an even keel! Yes My dad wasn't a Navy man but I'm sure he was aboard many of the Army troop movements across the Atlantic and in the Mediterranean. Any time we were getting ready to go somewhere in the car he would pronounce in aloud voice, "Gangway detail man your stations! Make all preparations for getting under way!" I'd sure love to hear him say that one more time.

Ed, that is good news.  Has it caused you to suffer any sick feelings?

ED  For what it is worth,I had three internal high doses and then 25 external back in 2017 and everything went well.     It did cause a couple other problems but that has been taken care of and have been at 0 for about the last three years and never got sick from any of it.

So take care and keep doing what you have been doing

Good afternoon, everyone.  Just some coffee please, Flo.

Ed, that is good news.  Has it caused you to suffer any sick feelings?  I've had friends who have had the treatments, and some were sick, some were not.  As Rich suggested, hopefully you have Wink clear sailing and that it's not all downhill from here.  I love all the 20th Century photos.  It's another train I wish I could have ridden.

Zugman, thanks for the info about the picture.  It's a great picture anyway.

Mike, that is a neat Dec.7 letter!  Do you have it, or is that something you found online?

Charlie, on the bird front here, we are getting huge flocks of geese flying over, but they can't make up their minds about winter being over.  Some of the flocks are going north, some south, and some just flying around.  Yesterday, we had such a large number overhead that even the dog stopped on our walk and watched them.  V after V came over.  On the homefront backyard birds, my wife counted eight pairs of cardinals at the feeders yesterday.  Maybe they're preparing for nesting.  I'm sure we will still have snow and bad weather after this, so they may be a little early.

On the layout, yesterday I installed a small parking lot for the streetcar shelter I'm building.  This morning I got up, didn't like it, and tore it out.  After this afternoon's church, I'm starting over.  One layout step forward, one back.  By February, 2035, I should finish this section of the layout.

Have a great day, everyone.

Ed, nice truck by the way.  2017?  Mine is a 2017 crew cab in black.  By the way, have you talked with Cuda Ken lately?  Curious how he is doing.

I was quite surprised that Ken gave me a call right around Thanksgiving, maybe closer to Christmas. He's doing OK and living in a house his daughter somehow set him up in. The old house was ready to collapse. His wife has been dealing with a few mild strokes. Dirk is still doing OK.

Maddening day at work yesterday.  Here's hoping today is better.

I've been to Cape Breton quite a few times including winter and that scene doesn't ring true to me. The houses on what appears to be a suburban street are too close together and too close to the road. Also the road is too straight.

Dave, that is really a neat photo.  I'm trying to figure out the wires -- it looks like one of the wires coming from the right side goes to one of the vehicles?

I wonder if this is an AI generated picture. The wires make no sense, and while there's heavy snow blowing in the top of the frame the bottom is crystal clear and sharp.

looks like AI. Seen a lot this year

Wow, quite the controversy over a photo.

Interesting questions indeed. I can't figure out the wire that goes to the truck either.

A photo?  Why does it look like a painting to me?

Is that an oil feed from the truck to that house?  How did the delivery guy get from the truck to the oil fill without leaving any foot prints?

Looks more like downed wires as they continue up past the house.

Good morning from the beautiful West Coast where we have Mother Nature's skyscrapers putting man"s skyscrapers in their place.

Just had a pile of eggs with tomatoes, onion, and cheese and will be off for my semi-annual haircut. Yep, twice a year whether I need it or not.

Father-in-law kept asking when my daughter would be home from University which is now. He wants to see both my son and her so the wife has asked them all for dinner. I know he took out a $880,000.00 reverse mortgage on his house recently so my wife and I think he may have a gift for them. Hope he does not have some more serious news having had bone cancer twice.

I have never had an issue understanding people with strong accents, on that show Swamp People I understand them clearly as can be. My wife on the other hand.

That is some photo Dave. Lucky dogs, all it means is they will be getting some serious time in the train room.Pirate

Time for my ear-lowering. Hope the truck starts, it has been at least a month since I've driven it.

All the best to all.

Mike, I did something similar with my layout's staging tracks.  I used Tortoise machines and a stationary decoder for mine.  It works fine.  I even built a control panel with indicator lights to show turnout position.  I bought a cheap stationary decoder that did not allow me to also use toggles for the same turnouts.  I should have gotten the better one, as I've now decided I really prefer toggles for turnouts, as using my throttle is awkward

Good morning, everyone.  Thanks for the donuts, Mike!

Living in Louisiana, we spent a lot of time out in Cajun country.  We had relatives who lived in the swamp, and the Cajun language was fun to listen to.

New Orleans itself did not have a southern accent (regardless of movies or TV shows -- generally a California movie director's idea of what New Orleanians talk like).  The New Orleans accent was more like a northeastern big city.  That said, you could often tell what part of the city someone was from by the distinct accent.

It's time to take the dog for her morning walk.  Then we'll rest before her afternoon walk.  Then more rest before her evening walk.

Good Morning Diners.  And it is a good morning.  Janie, treats are on me.

My oldest daughter called us last night with some wonderful news.  Long story short-she has been fighting a medical issue for 3 years that we were originally told typically resolves in 6-8 weeks.  She didn't get that deal.  Yesterday she had a doctor appointment and everything appears resolved.  With this particular issue, there is always a chance of it returning, but this is literally the first time in 3 years it has been healed.  There were many tears of joy yesterday.  Praying it stays healed.

CNCharlie
accents can be tricky. I find some from the southern US difficult

There is an American TV show called "Swamp People" that I believe is filmed in the great swamps in Louisiana and when they speak (English mind you) there are subtitles...in English.  You're not the only one who struggles with some of the accents from the southern US.

MisterBeasley
I could detach the panel with two screws, crawl under the layout and attach it on the far side.

Interesting idea.  I have 10 turnouts in my staging yard that is located on the other side of the basement from the layout.  My original plan was to simpy run a bunch of wires from staging to the main layout and have two panels of push buttons - one at the staging yard, one at the main layout area.  Then Walthers introduced their switch machines that could be controlled via DCC and my idea started changing.  That is until I discovered that they may not work.  Walthers still hasn't responded to my inquiry, so I'll give them a little more time before I start working on an alternative idea.

BATMAN
I hate car shopping

Me too.  I've been semi-casually looking for a different truck for about 9 or 10 months now.  Have seen a couple that I almost pulled the trigger on, but then I get that uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach and back off.  I wouldn't mind getting a truck delivered kind of like Ed did.

Ed, nice truck by the way.  2017?  Mine is a 2017 crew cab in black.  By the way, have you talked with Cuda Ken lately?  Curious how he is doing.

Anybody heard from Track Fiddler?

And I'm worried about Doctor Wayne too.

Have a great day everyone!
