Evening

Some nice looking trees Brent.  I've only made pine trees.  Aren't they called coniferous or something, and seem to forget what the other ones are called.

Always wanted to try the twisty wire thing, but it looked too difficult.  You must have a lot of patience my friend, because you make it look easy.

Gonna have to dust off the modeling board, and start trying out some of your ideas (fir) making some trees againYes

One can never have enough trees.

I'm another Bruins fan with nothing to say but "Wait 'til next year!"

Kevin, my bad.  I was thinking Panthers when I made my post And mentioned Lightning.  But as you say, at least they're both Florida teams.  To make matters worst, how about those Celtics!!

Kevin, it's looking like you're going to have to watch the Lightning win the Cup

Another night of hockey had me knock off more trees. Living in the land of 200' trees makes it hard for me to produce a little one but here is a little one I got done last night. Putting little 100' trees on the layout is easy as you can just plop them down anywhere, the 200-footers require some thought as to their placement.Laugh

I see that your trees are coming along Brent. Good job!

My team didn't even make the playoffs, but I still watch the games. Hockey is hockey. Soon, the Memorial cup games will be starting - what a treat that will be for Canadian junior hockey fans.

Simon

Thanks Simon, so many kinds of trees so little time.Laugh

This is a photo that Matthew Hicks posted here several years ago, I want my layout to look just like this.Pirate

I love watching junior hockey, they need to impress and make their mark if they want to make the big show.

I have a secret formula for the NHL playoffs three remaining teams. Vegas has 19 Canadians on the roster, Florida has 16 Canadians and Dallas has 14 Canadians. That's the Don Cherry formula.Laugh

I was disappointed when the Oilers were eliminated, but when Trawna (Toronto, for the snooty bunch) got knocked-off, it made my day.  That's the only hockey  team for which I would never root.
No offense to the players, but Trawna seems to think that the sun shines only out of their-you-know-what.

Otherwise, I'm not fussy, and will root for the Panthers and/or the Stars.

I just looked, and from what I saw the Bolts are out and the Panthers are in.

Miami still counts as Florida, but it is the wrong coast.

North Florida does not count.

I got three more trees done while watching last night's game. I have enough made now that I need to make up a plaster soup and start dunking to hide the fact they are made out of wire.

Looks like I won't be worrying about hockey playoffs much after tonight.

My wife coached high school and jr. high girls for 39 years.  I have no idea how she did it.  Her best coaching job was our son's 6th grade city basketball team.  She taught them skills, and then to play as a team.  She instituted a rule that everone had to score; no one could take another shot until the last kid scored; the efforts those kids would make for that to happen was incredible.  They were undefeated and untested.

It didn't hurt that on that team of 8-10 kids were a future NBA player (current Chicago Bull) and two division 1 football players (running back at Texas Tech and an OL at Purdue).  I think there were a couple of other college athletes on the team as well.  But the biggest thing she did was to teach them to play as a team and have fun.

MisterBeasley
I still remember the times I coached my daughter in soccer and lacrosse.  That's when sports were the most real for me.

I coached kids in hockey, baseball, and softball. It could be a real challenge when it came to coaching high school girls as they can be an emotional lot especially when the boyfriends or those they hope to have as boyfriends would be in the stands.Laugh It was all enjoyable though.

Coaching boy's hockey was different as they tended to get down to business and could care less about any girls in the stands.Pirate

Went out and bought supplies for the silly second round of the playoffs. I have been experimenting with mixing and matching different kinds of wire, making different types of trees. We shall see how it all turns out.....The trees, not the playoffs.Laugh

A few years ago, I was waiting at a brewpub on Cape Cod for the GF, sipping a fresh local beer, sitting outside in the sun and watching some little kids play the cornhole game that was set up.   I realized that given a cold beer and a nice place to sit, I'll watch most sports, preferably the ones with little kids.

I played ice hockey for 50 years, but the games I still remember are the times I coached my daughter in soccer and lacrosse.  That's when sports was the most real for me.

The only sporting events I watch are the Superbowl and the Olympics.

Any sporting event that is not a single event, all in, no tomorrow, winner take all, competition is not for me. Best of seven is just silly.

That is why I really dislike the skateboarding events in the Summer Games. So much of it just does not matter, so who cares?

No thanks.

Why make Aspen and Poplar trees of course. ...

Very cool! I'd like to see them when finished.

Pretty much the only time I watch sports now is while I'm doing something else ... either in my garage or my little indoor work shop. i have two "assembly" tables in there .... one I'm building the new Walthers' new 2-Stall Diesel Engine House ... the other a 1:35 Tamiya Tiger tank ... slowly.

Fun watching the NJ Devils vs. NY Rangers series here in NJ ... our two arenas are only a 20-minute train ride from each other on NJ Transit.

I don't really do anything during the games, as I tend to concentrate on the hockey game.  I will turn down the tv sound during intermissions to listen to the Stars radio intermission shows.

Hope the Stars can finish off the Wild tonight. Go Stars!!!

When done these will be dipped in a soup of plaster of Paris and then painted.

I've not seen that technique mentioned before.  Are the limbs brittle after the plaster?

Henry, the wound wire is not visible once dunked in the plaster and painted. You can still bend them "carefully" with no ill effects. A good sprinkle of ground foam and/or leaves and they look great.

richhotrain

When I do something like that, I become so absorbed that I completely miss what I intended to be watching on television.

Rich

Not me, I tend to watch in a pretty focused manner so only work on things in the commercials. Usually, I do sit-ups, push-ups, planks, or some other exercise during commercial breaks. I can bang off 50 push-ups or 100 sit-ups and still get another pour of Scotch in a single break.Laugh

I am pulling for the Kraken, however, it is hard to think that Boston won't take it, given the record-setting year they just had.

We went to a brewpub last night, and had good local IPA and good properly cooked chicken wings, plus a salad.  Two TVs were tuned to different hockey games.  One TV was tuned to the NFL Draft, which looks more like some celebrity entertainment awards show all the time.

I do not have a TV in the trainroom, although I can listen to the Stars radio feed on my phone.  We have been watching the Stars vs. the Wild on my new 75" TV in our basement media room.  I love basements, btw...

Go Stars!!!
