I replaced a Walthers/Shinora #8 curved turnout with a Peco #7 because of freguent derailments over the Walthers turnout. The Peco #7 actually has broader curves than the Walthers #8, especially on the inside curve. It has improved operation but a few of my full length passenger cars still have trouble taking the inside curve which is an operational nuisance. I'm still working the problem.
Added the first of about 30 highlight colours to this rock face today.

Here's a modification to a yard ladder I made a few weeks ago:

The original turnouts were power-routing type and I didn't like the way they were gapped.

The new lead has powered frogs and I realigned a track so I could fit in a water tower.

This is one of those "found" images.
This little detail was hidden in the corner of a picture of my wife. There on my desk was an N scale Period Miniatures craftsman kit under construction, with a couple of more kits still in the boxes.
It is amazing what shows up in the backgrounds if you look for it.

I bought two undecorated Walthers 46 foot USRA gondolas, and a package of two Chooch automotive scrap loads for them. The Chooch loads include a very prominent body of a Model T Ford, and I did not want that on both of the loads.
-All Photographs by Kevin Parson
I modified one of the loads. First I cut off the section with the body, and milled out a hollow to clear the floor weight.
Then I glued the load in place and filled in the voids with scrap styrene. I also removed two other distictive features.
Finally, I filled over all the voids with bits and gubbins from my scrap box to complete the load.
The finished freight cars:
I don't have a good picture looking down at the two loads.

The structures have been temporarily positioned on the plywood and the streets have been paved but still need to add sidewalks and details such as a sign for the hotel.

Early days on the layout. Job #1, get those trains runnin!
I bought a boxcar at a trainshow with a FRED installed. It was too hard to make sure it was always the last car on a train so I removed the FRED and installed it on this Amtrak express boxcar so it will always be on the end of a train.
Please show me passenger cars.

Still more from Athearn, please.
Here is one from Athearn, it comes in a orange and white box with a price of $24.95. It's supposed to be a PRR DD-40. It has two Jet 400 motors under the hood and weighs in at 2lbs.1oz, it has 16 driving wheels. It was listed in the 1987 Walthers catalog for $28.50 but not in the 1989 catalog.
