Randys Donuts shop in N scale

Randys Donuts

I just opened an account on Imgur, so I'm trying out a test post.  The N scale model is Randy's Donuts, which is a actual donut stand in the Los Angeles Area near LAX airport and off the I-405 freeway.  The Walthers model resembles this donut stand VERY much so I wanted to build the kit to resemble this one of a kind prototype.  The building itself is lit with Woodland Scenics just plug LED lights:  two of the N scale gooseneck lamps to illuminate the donut itself front and back and another LED illuminates the interior.  The three cars pictured are also woodland scenic just plug products and have lighted headlights and taillights.  The police car also has a flashing red light on the roof.  The donut stand and cars are set on a 5"x5" display parking lot.  This all sits on top of a display box that holds the electronics for the lights.  Eventually this will be incorporated into a layout but for now sits on my desk.

That's a neat little scene!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Every layout should have one of these, just for safety if nothing else!

Yep, before I built the existing donut stand I considered making a model of the Simpson's "Lard Lad" donut shop in Springfield!  "Mnnnnnnn....Donuts.  Can't talk...eating".

What paint colors would be suitable for a donut? And what about sprinkles?

I believe I have seen donuts all colors of the rainbow.

My favorite, the "Sour Cream Cake" donut is an ugly brown with clear glaze.

I have not had a fresh donut in more than a year.

I picked up some acrylic paint from Michaels for the donut color itself.  The color I used was Honey Brown from a company called Americana.  The top of the bottle says DecoArt if you're  looking to have a plain donut like I did.  After using white primer on the donut I applied the honey brown paint using a sponge to dab the color on.

I didn't add sprinkles as it was not used for the full size donut.  I just used lettering decals to add "Randy's Donuts" to the front and back of the donut.  I would have liked to add white outlines to each letter, but I'm still looking for a way I can do this without too much extra trouble.

I just want to let you know that you are the culprit Groundeffects.  I haven't had a good donut since I don't know when.  Because of your thread, it made me go out and buy a box.lDinner

If that's what looking at a model like that subliminally does to me, I don't think I could have one on my layout.

I look forward to seeing your model when you get it done.  And then I'll probably go out and get some moreWhistling

As Homer Simpson once said....Donuts.  Is there anything they can't do?
