York1 It took me about four days total time, and when I finished I made a vow that I would never do it again. It has taken my muscles over 20 years to recover from that experience. I admire you guys who will do your own roofs.

Good morning all. We have had our second jab. Dawn is happy to the point of tears. With what she has gone thru she thought she wouldn't be alive to get it.
We had the roof of our house renewed eighteen months ago. It was just before Christmas and Dawn recorded on her phone the initial sounds of the workmen on the roof.
She played the sounds to our grandchildren at Christmas. 'Listen to Santa on the roof.' The grandchildren were 'mesmerised'.

Heartland Division CB&QFor three long days, we have had as many as 13 workers doing this project.
My house needed to be inspected after the felt went on. Then the shingles were installed. I wish I had a video of the crew installing the shingles.
These guys showed in 5 pickup trucks, at least 20 of them. They had three air compressors running six nail guns. They shingled my entire house in less than 2 hours, and it was perfect.
The noise was extreme, but it was over fast.
Track fiddlerI actually really liked doing roofs in my younger days, ...Those days are over I will still help a friend on an occasion
I did a few roofs when I volunteered with Habitat For Humanity (back when they used to build houses), and I never enjoyed it!
York1The insurance company gave me a check to cover it. I decided that I would do the roof myself and keep the money.
My wife wanted me to do that after Hurricane Charley.
I convinced her we needed a category 5 roof installed professionally. WIN/WIN!
gmpullmanI recall the exact moment I first injured the disc in my back. 1991
I had one back injury, also in 1991. I was laid up for 4 months. The pain was the worst I have ever been through. I would not wish that on anyone.

One would think everything would be okay. No! No! No!
We are now told we can meet people outside, but not indoors. Even in the snow, wind or rain.
Then there are other restrictions which if I said could be termed Political.
Therefore we are still indoors.
Good morning, everyone.
It's about as beautiful a day outside as it can be. Yesterday's rain is gone, it's bright and clear, the birds are making noise, and it's going to warm up into the 60sF.
My wife wants some new outside lights on the sides of the house where there aren't any lights now. To her, it's just, "Hey, let's put lights there!" To me, it's, "How in the heck am I going to get wires there without tearing the whole house apart?" Unfortunately, she will not forget about these lights if I just put it off.

David, these rails look very tall. Are those a certain kind of different rail, or does the photo make them look higher than normal? They just look very high to me.
Have a good day, everyone!

Good morning, everybody ....
Workers were here early for our roof and gutter project. The job should be completed today.

Have you given any thought to those little LED/solar lights, John?
Heartland Division CB&QJohn York 1 ..... Perhaps outside solar lights would solve your wiring problem.
I'll second that motion (sensing)
I know they're nothing like 500 watt halogens but, if you get the right ones, they can throw off some good light where needed.
I was never a big fan of the little solar path lights that I've seen around but some years ago I bought a few of these wall lights to place along the walking paths around our place and I'm amazed at their longevity and the amount of light they produce.
I have one mounted way back on the windmill by the pond that has been there at least ten years and it is still every bit as good as the day I put it up. These are motion sensing lights so they only come on when they detect motion. I see them light up late at night and I figure the raccoons or opossums are crawling around.
Anyway, it might be a compromise for you and the missus.

For cheap money you could put a few up and see if you like them before pulling 200 feet of romex.
These are the most recent ones I bought and they seem to be holding up pretty well:

Unfortunately (for me) she isn't interested in how much light or what kind of light. She wants certain fixtures that she has in mind. I don't even like the way they look, but that won't matter. I learned to lose these battles over 40 years ago.
I'm sure I will be able to install them. My issue is how difficult it will be. I could hire it out, but that wouldn't be who I am (not smart).
Thanks Doug and Ed. I had a friend on another forum on another subject who's sig line was I love my computer because all my friends live there.
Doug I am sorry you lost a friend. All too common in my age group.
Since I inquired about my MRVP subscription, they locked me out.

Good Evening,
Fired up the barbie for the first time this year. Nothing fancy, just burgers but they were really good. Prime rib patties nicely seasoned.
All these videos of trains in the UK reminded me of the summer of 1994. We were staying withe friends in a small village near Reading. Anyway we took the local which was a 2 car self propelled train into Reading. The crew noticed my video camera and asked if I'd like to film from the cab. We were doing 75 mph on that branch line. I had to duck out of sight once as the crew spotted a supervisor. I wasn't into trains at the time, sailing was my passion then.
A winter storm is forecast for Monday with 10" of snow possble. I hope it happens as we need the moisture.
With the tax refund I thought I might treat myself to something RR but after an ebay search I only came up with DW&P RS11. After reflecting on it I decided it was too expensive especiaĺly as it would need a decoder. Not to mention what I spent on brass last year.
Sure hope we hear from Ken soon. I miss his posts.

Good Morning All,
Just a regular to go please Chloe. Been swamped in the shop though things are going well. Second shot went well - tired by the end of the day and sore and tired the morning of the second day but once I got up and running it all got better. Just needed more sleep. All for now and back to the shop. Ciao, J.R.

It was a good day for a train show. The Fre-Mo had both HO and N scale sections. There were a lot of good ideas and some good layout scenes -- all for free!
Heartland Division CB&QKevin .... Sounds like you are anxious to go on a trip.
Very anxious. I plan to spend time in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Minnesota, North Dakota, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana. I hope to be on the road 24 days.

Today I made several trips in a 14 foot U-haul and bought tile, stone ledger panels, lumber, new gutters, cement, drywall, and so on.
I spent over $2,000.00, but I think I have enough to keep me busy for a few weeks.
I see that Baton Rouge was pummeled with some heavy storms. I hope young Steven wasn't adversely affected.
I'll bet the BNSF boys had fun putting the static grass down in this cut:

David .... Thanks for the latest videos you shared. Now, I wish we included Scotland while we were in England.
Kevin ..... You certainly are working hard on your house. .... That sounds like a long road trip. If you do include MI Upper Peninsula, be sure to see Tahquamenon Falls and the Keweenah Peninsula. The entire UP is very beautiful.
As Kevin says, the world is a beautiful place . Here is a picture I took of Shashone Falls in Idaho.

I rode the C-Z back in 2003. I recall that experience, too. After an hour of hard-working locomotives making it up the grade you could look back and see the Mile-High City.

I like the gold "Jones Goods". Too bad She can't still be chasing tracks with the Flying Scotsman. That would be quite the sight!
Judy had a few days off in case she had any symptoms from her covid shot on Thursday. I got pulled away from my layout as she had alternate plans for me. Today I drop her off back at work so I can continue with some more foam.

Post Hog!
I did my first weathering job experiment on the clock I bought for Judy's birthday many years ago. I built the wood surround for it too, (Tiger Wood from Africa) She wound it backwards about seven years ago after replacing the battery and it hasn't worked since.
I replaced the whole mechanism that came with a brand new set of hands yesteday. Those brand new hands looked ridiculous on the old weathered clock. I took my MR paints to the hands.
Then I said something to Judy that sounded like something from the Twilight Zone. I told her that the clock has not worked in our home for seven years which has slowed our aging process. Now that I fixed it our normal aging process will resume.
The split second look on her face was priceless until she rolled her eyes at me and laughed
