I know you hate cutting the grass but I love it. Riding the Deere for an hour or so I find it so relaxing, it is me time.
I think I would have liked farming, but I really think being a cattle rancher in the foothills of Alberta would make me happy. Rural living with no neighbours. I very much like being remote enough to be able to be self-sustaining if needed.

The out-of-town visitors just left. Before they got here, we cleaned the entire house. Now that they have left, we will be cleaning again. Something's wrong with this whole setup.

Good morning from the warm, sunny West Coast.
I have been bizzzzzzzy. The house reno's continue as we got into it far more than we had intended but the end of this stage is in sight and my arthritic body is looking forward to it.
The kid moved out with his GF so we were helping him with that as he is working full time and going to school full time. I said I would give him the car when he graduated as a grad present so I gave it to him a few weeks early because he moved out and needed it. This meant we had to go buy a new car in a hurry as we were down to just having the truck. On the way to the Toyota dealer, the P/U broke down so we limped into Ford, dropped it off and walked over to Toyota and pulled the trigger.
We bought a new Toyota Highlander Hybrid, so far I love it. Being somewhat rural most of our driving is highway and this thing all but drives itself. It yells at you if you don't hold the wheel but all you have to do is barely touch the wheel with your thumb and it has steered itself around every bend in the road I have taken it through. Of course, I still do the driving, however, I wanted to see just how reliable it is. The speed control is also amazing, I set the Cruise control at 120KMH and it slows down and speeds up as required. I must admit it was a little unsettling especially the steering part, but you get used to it. They say having the speed control and steering assist really lowers the fatigue from driving and I must admit it really does.
When we went to pay for the insurance I was thinking new car, this is going to be expensive. It was only about 60% of the 2016 Mazda 3 I gave to the kid. The agent said it is because the car is so safe, it is much less likely to get into an accident.
TF, the owner is ultimately responsible for the car. If the car gets the ticket the owner of the car is responsible for it. If you lend your car to an idiot and he has an accident, the car is insured not the driver. You as the owner will be named in the lawsuit to recover damages in case they go above and beyond what the insurance covers. The insurance companies here remind owners of this constantly. If you lend your car to a friend and he doesn't pay the photo radar ticket, I think I would not be lending my car to this kind of person.
Garry, you have a beautiful piece of property. We got a new steel roof years ago and it was a good investment as we have had some huge branches land on it and bounce right off in storms. The underlay was a tar filled heavy rubbery plastic that closed in around all the screws that hold the steel tiles on. Our last typhoon was in 1962 I believe but we get some pretty good blows off the Pacific every year and I don't need to worry about this thing coming off.
It is cherry blossom time in the greater Vancouver area and it is simply stunning, a sea of pink. Photos taken from the air over the city are quite something. The Palm trees take a back seat at cherry blossom time.

I still haven't cut the grass (no time) I usually start doing that first week of March. It is very long. I still have 20 yds of soil to move so best get off my butt.

Another errand afternoon for me. Pickingc6p the taxes from the accountant. We both get decent refunds! I used to do ours but stopped when I had my mothers estate to deal with. Now it is the best way to income split. Here we both have to file individual returns but seniors can income split.

TF, the ticket goes to me as the vehicle owner and is sent ib the mail. I got caught by an unmaned camera. It doesn't affect my driving record as they can't prove I was driving . Many have tried going to court, good luck with that, I'll just pay the $249. I was speeding and ignorance of the law, speed limit, is no defence. About the first thing I learned in law classes at uni.
I coupled my Mikado to a train yesterday. It is a BLI version with the P2 decoder. I really like it. The sound is very good and it runs great. I think the sound is better than the Tsunami2 in my Pacific. I especially like the way the chuff intensity increases as it accelerates.

Charlie, In the states those kind of tickets don't hold up if you go up against them and you don't need a lawyer. I don't know how it works in Canada but the Trooper has to hand you the ticket and see your license to verify it's you for the ticket to be legal here.
A lot of people don't know that and are just passive to pay those photo tickets. That's what they're counting on, nine times out of ten pays well. The legal argument that holds up as an example is, One could borrow their car out to friends in need and who knows which one was driving that day. You can't give a ticket to a vehicle, it has to be a verified person.

Heartland Division CB&QWe are learning how poorly the original roof was installed.
I was dismayed by how poor the original roof on this house was. The felt under the shingles was like notebook paper, and the shingles were turning to dust after barely more than ten years.
Fortunately the contractor that did the replacement really did a good job of making everything right. I am hoping the best for your project.

Someone asks a perfectly reasonable question about a commonly accepted technique or segment of our hobby and the naysayers have to weigh in on how they never do it, use it or have any use for the technique, or DCC or sound, or material.
I am ashamed of myself for how easily I have been drawn into pointless nonsense with some of these discussions.

A replacement front entry door, almost identical to the one I have now, impact rated for 170 MPH will only be about $500.00 installed.
Previous estimates for unwanted styles of "fancy" doors were four times that much.

Our roofing project is still not completed. They needed 15 sheets of plywood to repair water damaged wood. Also, in problem areas, they used heavy rubber membrane material to seal it up. Tomorrow, they complete the roof and install new gutters.
In the train room roday, I replaced more ceiling tiles, and I repaired a couple of buildings that had broken detail parts because clumsy me bumped into them.

Had to endure the death of a friend today. Yeah real broke up about it too. I relied on this guy alot. Navigating through lifes decisions, selecting this and that for me. A real trooper. Great personal assistant! Really gonna miss him. Gone WAY before his time. Oh well, back to Mal-Wart for another mouse.
This should be fun trying to navigate around the world keyboard only. Should be a real good test of todays coders to see if they remember the keyboard is just as important as a mouse or cell phone touch screen as a UI.

Good evening diners. Toby saw his first rabbit (that I know of in the last 11 years). Our former house had 2 fox families and no rabbits. This one was huge. I tried to point him out to Toby but he wouldn't look in the right direction and then he picked up the scent. They had a stare down at 10' and then I led Toby away.
I am unhappy with Kalmbach and the forum. Only Kalmbach thinks I canceled my MRVP 18 months ago.

Charlie, I got something like that, except it was a toll charge. In Dallas, I drove on a highway that became a toll road. I knew that I was entering a toll road, but there were no toll booths or anything like that. Two months later, in the mail, came a photo of my car, my car's license plate, and a $6.00 toll charge.
I actually didn't mind it. It was much better than stopping at toll booths to get the ticket, then stopping again at another toll booth to pay.

Got a surprise in the mail in the form of a photo radar speeding ticket. I truly thought the speed limit there, a divided street was 60 kph, not 50. Oh well it is only the second one in 57 years of driving. Good thing I didn't buy that TH&B Hudson. Yesterday I picked up $140 of meds for Robbie. Lately the unplanned expenses just keep happening.

Kevin .... It sounds like your current roof is very top quality. You mentioned replacing plywood, and that is what was needed here for this project. About a dozen 4x8 sheets were used yesterday. Too much weather damage. We are learning how poorly the original roof was installed.
All day yesterday, we had 7 Mexicans working on the roof. They were here at 7:00 this morning to begin the noises. In the background, they have Mexican music playing loudly, and actaully I don't mind that kind of music.
Today we get new shingles and new gutters. All of those guys work hard, and seem to know what they are doing.
