Brent,
"transfer station"? Is the Canadian euphemism for the land fill?

Sort of.
It is this massive building where you drive in, dump your stuff on the floor and these big front end loaders shove it into the abyss where three more front end loaders proceed to move it into compactors for trucking upcountry.
I remember being there once and seeing three large sections of a layout being pushed into the pit on the other side. Wondered who it belonged to and if it was just the family getting rid of Dads layout after he died. That's likely where mine will end up.

Evening all.
Still no Ken in the diner, hope he is improving from what was/is ailing him. Lion is also still MIA, hopefully, all is well at the Monastery.
I had an interesting few days as friends of ours got word that big strong always healthy as a horse Grandpa had only days to live. Everyone headed up country to say their goodbyes so we are helping out on the home front while they are gone, that way everyone can go.
They are mad as can be because if tough old Grandpa had gone in for a routine physical he would likely not be dying. Prostate cancer is very treatable with a high survival rate. When you consider exams, test and most things medical would not cost him a dime to get, it is heartbreaking they are saying goodbye to him.
Spent most of the day moving dirt and while I was out there I heard a horrific car crash on the highway a half-mile away, I just felt sick. Sirens and air ambulances quickly followed.
The company that did our kitchen came by today and asked if they could stage and use our new kitchen in all their promotional material. It turned out pretty nice and they were great start to finish so we said sure.
I got eight door casings done yesterday and will start the floor moulding this week if I get a few minutes. I am really happy with the door casings as I got them nice and tight.
I have been selling all the crap around the house on FB marketplace and I am up to about $800.00 in profit. Normally I could not be bothered as it is not worth my time, but with covid, I am just staying home anyway so why not. Seeing someone use it is better than taking it to the transfer station. Got a guy coming tonight to buy 51m of 12/2 wire I had sitting around. That's a new Rapido Baggage sleeper.
Kevin, that is a very cool story about the bomber. My Moms good friend inherited the Memphis Bell when her Dad died. She stayed with us often when she visited and always said she would give me the VIP tour when I came down to Seattle. Never made it down and still kicking myself.
Lovin the new Highlander, sure makes me realize how old and beat up the truck is.
Time for a Rum refill.
All the best to all.

Ed, I have no idea! I just snapped the picture and we walked away. I was surprised that she said the phone actually worked (she thought there was a credit card slot).

I cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought
Good morning, diners. Bacon, eggs, and coffee, please.
Kevin, that is a neat story about the bomber names. I hope you can make the trip over to see the plane sometime. That's an honor for your wife.
David, more great videos. Thanks.
Another day of not much to do. I will try to work on some soldering of wires for my crossing signals.

Have a good day, everyone.
Interesting information on the camera tickets Sheldon. I should have known the laws probably varied from state to state and only spoke for Minnesota when I posted.
The lawyers are so busy in this town it's almost sickening at times. You can't watch TV without seeing an ad every 10 minutes.
It was years ago they put up those cameras to issue automated tickets to Minnesota drivers. It wasn't long after that the lawyers were fighting it in court for indviduals and then later lobbying to have it abolished. It wasn't long after the cameras went up, that they all came down. It was a huge waste of peoples money.
I never had anything to worry about as I follow all driving laws and speed limits. I may be known to go 5 over on the highways at times to go with the flow but they don't seem to worry about that.

Does that OOCL shipping container look like the front end is shifting over? I see a shadow like it is. Are the shorter ones supposed to be stacked on the longer ones?
David, once again you are doing a fantastic job of hosting the Diner! Thank you for your efforts!
I just concluded a long overdue inventory of all of my locomotives. My goal was to determine how many locomotives still require sound decoders. It turns out that I need to buy 11 more sound decoders. Needless to say I won't be putting in an order for that many decoders first thing tomorrow morning! I intend to buy one or two decoders every couple of months until I have acquired all that I need.
Cheers everyone!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Good morning all. Jack Frost has been busy overnight.
A busy day ahead for us today with deliveries arriving thru the day.

Track fiddler Charlie, In the states those kind of tickets don't hold up if you go up against them and you don't need a lawyer. I don't know how it works in Canada but the Trooper has to hand you the ticket and see your license to verify it's you for the ticket to be legal here. A lot of people don't know that and are just passive to pay those photo tickets. That's what they're counting on, nine times out of ten pays well. The legal argument that holds up as an example is, One could borrow their car out to friends in need and who knows which one was driving that day. You can't give a ticket to a vehicle, it has to be a verified person.

Actually every state is different and in many states non point camera violations for speeding and running red lights can be issued to vehicle owners just like a parking ticket.
What they cannot do in penalize your driving record as a result of such violations.
They can suspend your registration if you don't pay.
And until some gets the Supreme Court to hear this issue, it will stay a State by State issue.
It's your car, it is your responsiblity if it is used dangerously, unless you can show it was stolen or used wihout permission.
Maryland law allows speed cameras only in special situations, work zones, and near schools. The camera must record a speed more than 12 mph over the limit before a ticket is issued. And again the ticket is like a parking ticket.
But we have red light cameras all over, cross the stop line after it is red, it takes your picture (several of them actually) pay the fine. The courts have said so.
SeeYou190My wife and I had a planned one-month trip to England and Italy starting with visiting her airplane in Duxford and including a canal cruise.
CNCharlieKevin, Would that airplane be the concord?
No, it is this B17-G.
My wife's father was the belly turret gunner on the Mary Alice, and he named her after the plane. There is a restored version of the Mary Alice in Duxford. My wife needed to get there to see her plane, but then she found out it is not the actual Mary Alice.
The people at the museum would like her to make the trip. They really want my Mary Alice to come see their Mary Alice.
The pilot, Daniel Knight, named the plane after his mother, then one of his crew, William Mackowiak, named his son after the pilot and his daughter after the plane. Then I married his daughter.
Good Evening,
Kevin, Would that airplane be the concord? Maybe you can do your trip when all this covid stuff settles down. You are still young. I was 59 on our first trip to Africa.
Looking at more engines on ebay. I get excited about one but find that after a day for sober second thought I no longer have the same desire.
CN Charlie
Track fiddlerNice picture Kevin! I might have to start calling you "Dude"
No one has called me "dude" since 1986. You may call me anything you like.
NorthBritOne day I shall travel the Caledonian Canal.
My wife and I had a planned one-month trip to England and Italy starting with visiting her airplane in Duxford and including a canal cruise. Since we both retired early, that plan has been cancelled.
CNCharlieKevin, sounds like quite the trip you have planned. The UP of Michigan is really nice. I drove through it a few times in the 70's.
I can't wait. I had a good time in Lower Michigan last June, and I want to see the rest of it.
Track fiddler I will mail you my phone number just in case you want to meet for lunch or dinner on me while you're up here in Minnesota. It looks like you come right on by Interstate 94 on the way to North Dakota.
Sounds good. I do not have dates or a route nailed down yet. It looks like I will leave around Memorial Day. The car rental rates drop a lot in late May.

How can this spindly bridge hold up those heavy locomotives?
Kevin, I just got to tell you, your schedule is something else.
More remodeling plans with all those materials in the garage staring you in the face and you still have time for a 24 day trip.
Truly amazing! I will mail you my phone number just in case you want to meet for lunch or dinner on me while you're up here in Minnesota.

Good Afternoon,
Getting cloudy and cooler so I guess we will be getting that storm afterall.
I have a bottle of beer sitting in the bar I bought a few years ago. It is Tusker brand from Nairobi, Kenya. Looking at the label I discovered it was brewed when we were there, Feb. 2007. I had a few when there and it was nice beer. They don't sell it here now. That is how exciting my day has been so far.
Kevin, sounds like quite the trip you have planned. The UP of Michigan is really nice. I drove through it a few times in the 70's as it was the shortest route from where I lived in SW Ontario to my parents in NW Ont. They looked at Minnesota across the Rainy River from their house.
Think I'll have a coffee and a piece of pound cake.
gmpullmanHow can this spindly bridge hold up those heavy locomotives?

I like the name of this bridge. It is the Goat Lick Trestle in Essex, Montana.
I hope everyone is doing fine

We are finally getting a good rainstorm down here. It has been weeks since we had a real soaker.
I am working inside finishing up the dining room today.
Good evening all.
I hope Ken is feeling much better.
Lion. We need a roar!
One day I shall travel the Caledonian Canal.
Will do John, but if a few more were added, I probably wouldn't notice the difference anyways!
Track fiddlerThen I said something to Judy that sounded like something from the Twilight Zone. I told her that the clock has not worked in our home for seven years which has slowed our aging process. Now that I fixed it our normal aging process will resume.
Let us know if your hair suddenly begins to gray or you get quite a few aches and pains you haven't had before!
Post Hog!
I did my first weathering job experiment on the clock I bought for Judy's birthday many years ago. I built the wood surround for it too, (Tiger Wood from Africa) She wound it backwards about seven years ago after replacing the battery and it hasn't worked since.
I replaced the whole mechanism that came with a brand new set of hands yesteday. Those brand new hands looked ridiculous on the old weathered clock. I took my MR paints to the hands.
Then I said something to Judy that sounded like something from the Twilight Zone. I told her that the clock has not worked in our home for seven years which has slowed our aging process. Now that I fixed it our normal aging process will resume.
The split second look on her face was priceless until she rolled her eyes at me and laughed
Thanks for the continued narration of the Scotland Tour David, ...Enjoyed
I like the gold "Jones Goods". Too bad She can't still be chasing tracks with the Flying Scotsman. That would be quite the sight!
Judy had a few days off in case she had any symptoms from her covid shot on Thursday. I got pulled away from my layout as she had alternate plans for me. Today I drop her off back at work so I can continue with some more foam.
Nice picture Kevin! I might have to start calling you "Dude" One of my childhood friends still calls me Dude. It some how gives me a sense of being young again and I like it
Still cool and rainy up here. I guess it's typical for April. How does that old saying go again? April Rains brings May Trains

Good morning all. A cloudless, ice-blue sky. Not a breath of wind. The silence is deafening. What is going to happen?
Kevin. Just looking at those pictures is hard work.
Garry. Glad you like the films. When all this Covid stuff is over and we are allowed our freedom again, we shall travel to the Lowlands and visit our friends and family.
