I have some of those Custom Finishing kits on the shelf, waiting for someday Yours looks pretty sharp. Finishing something that is a challenge can be a great reward! Thanks for the tour
I continued on part of my fuel tracks this week. One thing I wanted were some low inspection lights that are common around these facilities so the trucks and rigging can be seen easier.

I mixed up a "glop" of Durham's putty and added about a teaspoon of Mars Black artist acrylic to it to make some oil-soaked grime to spread on the track:

Things are just temporarily in place until I get the "feel" for their location. The abandoned concrete shed once housed an air compressor. I'll have to find some rusted machinery for the interior.

All the "pre-EPA" fuel stations I've seen had a nasty muck of diesel fuel, soot, lube oil and gunk all over the ground.

I support the restoration of 'Medway Queen Paddle Steamship' and to raise funds they commission the building of model rail wagons. I have a few and every now and I run them as a separate layout. Just a bit of fun.

Well, I have been absent, but I finally have a couple things worth showing.
The snow is really coming down here in upstate NY. We’ve gotten almost a foot and it’s still coming down!
Since I can’t get out to railfan today (although I really wanted to), I thought I would make a short layout update.
Even though I’m supposed to be tearing things down, I actually repaired some track and put some trains back up!?
I did this for two reasons. I can’t say the first reason at the time, but the second reason is that I got mail! A very generous fellow D&H modeler sent me a very nice Atlas D&H Pulpwood car.
This is my first pulpwood car, and it looks and runs great! Thanks Ben! Here it is spotted at the GP mill.
I will review the car in my next layout video update, which I am planning now.

Jimmy- I like the progress on the layout, keep it up! Also what is a custom finishing kit?
Ed- I like the grime on the track! I added some oil leaks to mine with some acrylic paint. The shine is a nice touch to it! Those autoracks are awesome! I love the early style. Athearn rollingstock always delivers.
David- I like the wagon! Is the ship restored yet?
I gave up a few of my engines to fund a new project, making WSOR 6660, an EX SP GP35.
I picked up a walthers proto GP35 and decals from Circuis City Decals and got one side done yesterday. Now to figure out how to remove the nose mounted mars lights and add ditch lights. That will be a future project as I do like the mars lights
Through a lucky bid, this Proto 2000 PS4427 hopper found its way onto the layout

Good, morning from cloudy, cold and windy Northeast Ohio, we were supposed to get snow and a wintry mix last night buy it looks like we only got the wintry mix.
Jimmy, thanks for starting us out, good work on that kit, from what I understand the old Custom Finishing kits from when Bob Raszca owned the company were a lot easier to build than the kits now due to all the flash etc on from using the old dies.
Ed, nice looking work, I just received the same auto racks that you got, now to get cars to fill them up!
Dave, another great scene, you British modelers get some great scenes on small layouts.
Harrison, nice looking pulpwood car, very realistic.
Ringo, GP35's are always good looking engines, also covered hoppers from that period look great.
Garry, love the picture, especially the 2-10-2, my Pennsy 2-10-2 is one of my favorite locomotives.
I managed to get a couple of cars done this week!
LBF 50' FMC Double Door Boxcar kit, removed the poorly done cast on ladders and replaced with IMRC ones from the scrapbox, also added A-line Sill Steps in place of the cast plastic ones. Car was painted with Scalecoat II NP Light Green paint and lettered with Champ Decals. The SP&S ordered these FMC/Gunderson cars in 1970 to deal with the increased lumber traffic out of the Pacific Northwest. Like the DT&I I think they regretted the yellow lettering on green paint.
Exactrail Evan 4780CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II ATSF Red and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Evans in the 1977-1981 period built about 6,000 of these covered hoppers to deal with the increased grain traffic in the midwest. Garvey Elevators bought some of these cars new and took over the leases on other cars to service their elevators, the first cars were painted in this red scheme, the later cars were painted in Cascade Green with the same lettering.
Like Ed I got some new cars but also got this CP F7B to go with the FP7A's I got over a year and a half ago.
Here are the FP7A's it will be run with!
Since Garry had his 2-10-2, here is my Pennsy N1s 2-10-2 with a coal drag on the Strongsville Club Layout.

Jimmy: Thank you for starting us out this week. I wish you were close-by. I would come over and show you all kinds of good techniques for assembling that beautiful kit.
Ed: This industrial lamps look great on your layout. Those new autoracks are handsome. I only have one open autorack that holds just four automobiles. It cost way too much to populate it. I could never have one of the those biggies.
David: I like that scene. The lorry with the low cab and the high trailer looks great.
Harrison: That is a good looking pulpwood bulkhead flat car. Did you paint the load? My Atlas cars came with unpainted loads.
Ringo: That new hopper car looks great. I love all of my Proto-2000 freight cars. Those covered hoppers are one of the few they made that do not fit my era. How was Circus City Decals to work with? I am going to need more custom decals soon.
Garry: That picture of the town of Blackhawk on your layout is simply beautiful. That is a very pleasing scene that really shows off a great section of your layout.
Rick: On your SP&S car, yes, that green is way too light for yellow lettering. Also, does the yellow stripe on the door indicate anything special, or is it just a marker for autoracks?
I don't have anything new to share this week, so I did not start the WPF thread. I will leave everyone with just one of my favorite pictures of my layout test segment from last year.

Kevin- I really like proto kits too! theyre not too had to do and always yeild good results. I personally like Circus City Decals a lot. The owner is a good guy and is always quick to respond. A few months ago I inquired to getting custom graphics and he instead sent me to MicroScale to save me money. Really stand out guy with nice WSOR layout. Id reccomend him to anyone

Sorry, that is how they were painted, pea green with yellow-orange lettering, which is why I said that was a big mistake.

I was not suggesting your painting was anything less than perfect. I am in 100% agreement that the prototype should have made a better choice for color combination.

Jimmy - Thanks for starting WPF for the first weekend in February 2021. The video show that you are making progress on your layout. You have quite a task ahead of you there.
Ed - Great work on the fuel rack and lighting. The auto racks look good too.
David - Good looking scene. The Queen is a piece of history and a worthy project. Great progress has been made!

I was getting ready to go outside and shovel the snow too, but when I looked through the window I saw that the snow had missed us. That was a good break.

Jimmy, thanks for starting us this weekend. I really like your trees that have the autumn colors. My trees are all green -- I hadn't considered trees in the fall. I might have to try that.
Ed, that fuel station scene with the dirty tracks and ballast looks realistic. You're right, most of those you see in real life reflect years of spilling oil.
David, that's another great scene from your railroad. That's sounds like a neat idea to raise money for a steamship's restoration.
Harrison, I must have missed when you told of tearing down the layout. What are you planning? That's a pretty neat-looking pulpwood car.
Ringo, another nice-looking hopper car. I've mentioned before that I want to start getting some covered hopper cars -- yours look great.
Garry, that scene is a great example of a background and foreground blending together. It's difficult to see where the layout ends and the background begins.
Rick, I love E and F locomotives. That's a nice-looking CP F7 A&B.
Kevin, that's a neat lineup of billboard cars. It's too bad railroads don't do that anymore.
Tanker, that's a neat look model of an excursion train.

The black paint is a good idea. I've had my share of "glow-in-the-dark" structures.
When you do get around to adding interior lighting you'll find it best to keep it subdued and try not to have a direct view of the light source. Keep it diffused.

WOW . . . Great looking stuff as usual guys!!!! This is always the best topic on the Forum, keep the pictures coming guys.Between arthritis and just old age I haven’t done much for a couple of weeks. Old Shaky Mel is still dinking around with my heavy weight lounge car. I slipped the shell on and took some pictures and much to my surprise the pictures turned out pretty good.I’m kinda surprised that the camera focused on the interior goodies and not the window frames. It shows that if you get close enough you can see the interiors through the tiny windows.The tiny table lamps work pretty good for taking pictures.Shell on and exterior lighting, the shell will be painted SP Lark colors two tone gray.Exterior lighting off and interior LED lighting on.
There are 15 LEDs in this one and the total current is 6ma.I guess I held my tongue right to get the camera to work the way I wanted. I haven installed the window glass yet, that will come after I paint the shell's exterior.
With the lighting working as planned and the passengers in place the only thing left is the shell. Arthritis allowing I’ll get out the airbrush next week and do it to it. Which 'little people' are going to Julia's Bakers? Who are going to the crossing? See the coalman delivering coal to Mrs Murray's house. See the man on the bicycle at the crossing. Oh! and the Wetherby to Leeds Central train is departing Roseville Station.
