Brent.  The water line to the refrigerator.  I always drilled a very small hole upstairs where I ideally want the line.  Then stick a straightened coat hanger down.  A real long small drill bit if there is sheetrock downstairs, then just leave the drill and bit in the hole.  You sure find either of those right away, downstairs or in the crawl space.  Then it's easy to make sure that position will work.  If not, no harm is done from a little hole and you just took all the guesswork out of where to reposition the waterline.

I drilled a little hole and put a flashlight over it, that makes it easier to find in the crawl space. Having measured very carefully I nailed it the first time. These boxes are supposed to be put in while the house is being built before the drywall goes in but I got it done.

It was quite easy actually, but I'll be in the observation car having a well-earned beer for my strenuous hour of work.Laugh I am a union man don't ya know.Smile, Wink & Grin

evenin,

been trying to catch up on the posts. It was a busy week on call at the hospital.

not fun when people break stuff at 1 am.

Form older posts: John Dever did not crash his plane in the rockies, he crashed in Monterey Bay in California. His experimental plane ran out of fuel.

Today I was filling my Kerosene heater in the basment and my tank runneth over because I was not paying attention. Luckily the heater has a tray under it and it caught most of the spillage. i was able to sop it up out of teh tray and get it back into the Kerosene can. good thing the fumes are not like gasoline.

I had to take the offending floor mats outside.

got a 1938 RCA working last night. this Kero spill slowed things down today.

LMC I'm pretty sure someone has recommended to use that kerosene to clean your track.  I'm going to pass on that technique.

Watching Tampa and Green Bay.  They mentioned it will be Super Bowl 55.  My father was a Baltimore Colt nut and we were at Superbowl 7 where Joe Namath beat our caboose.

55-7=48  omg where did the years go?

We left Miami that night and had dinner at the airport seated next to Howard Cosell, Gifford and Meridith.  They were drunk as lords.

I knew you'd get that figured out Brent but I had to put my two cents in anyways.

I will join you in the observation car.  I deserve one of those cold ones too after enjoying a relaxing day of bridge buildingLaugh

Just checking in from a full day of football.  There's a good one going on right now with the Chiefs and Bills.

Tomorrow I will make some Red Beans and Rice.  It's a good New Orleans Monday dish on a cold snowy day.  I'll get it started in the morning and let it cook all day.  My wife likes it, but she doesn't like the house smelling of onion, garlic, and sausage for three days.  Every so often, I place an order with a grocery store in New Orleans and they send me Camillia Red Beans -- they're the best.

TF, I saw your work on WPF, and it looks great.  I really would like to add on to my layout so I could do more trackwork.  I think I like doing that most of all.  I also would like to have the layout use more bridges.  Maybe that's in the cards later this year.

Time to walk the dog.  She doesn't like ice either.

John.  A good day of football or a great day of hockey is there's nothing betterStick out tongue

Red beans and rice cooked all day! ,  You would be Judy's heroYes  She does make a good mean one,  being that she was born and raised there and all that.

The smell of garlic, onion and sausage for three daysDinner  That's like air freshener to usLaugh

Thank you for the compliment JohnYes  A complement always makes me feel goodSmile

I'll tell you what, ...I'll lay the Cork and you will lay the Track.  I love laying cork but I'm almost afraid of laying track because I want everything just right before I do it.

A better name for me should have been CF instead of TFLaugh

Be careful walking the dog on that ice tonight John.  I busted my ribs twice falling on the ice.  You should see me walking across the ice nowadaysTongue TiedIndifferent

As I'm sure most of you know I grew up in the wilderness.  I do know how to make fire with no fire in a survival situation.  This is how I make fire these days at $12 a case for 6 synthetic logs.

I'm older now, a bit lazier and I cheatLaughLaughLaugh

They burn for a long time and I don't have to tend the fire.  What more could one ask for in the winter timeSmile, Wink & Grin

Most of the gas station logs down here are too Green.  $7 Bucks a bundle and you spend more time trying to light your fire then you get to enjoy oneSadLaugh  A two inch bed of coals and those green ones burn nice and hot with the steam.

But that only happens up North with the campfire and the beers ...Bears ...beers ...or bothLaugh Pirate

Good Evening All,

A nice glass of Pinot Noir would do me a treat right now. Got chores done and boxed up more books. So far we have about 20 13 x 13 x 6 boxes from the downstairs book shelves. Add the 20 bankers boxes from upstairs with CD's and tapes plus the 18 or so LP boxes (also 13 x 13 x 6) and it is big pile. I'm only half way done with the downstairs book shelves. Just way too much stuff.

I like the idea of a video tour. Of course I have also started cutting track where I plan on disassembling the layout so I can't run but the idea is great.

With the Jets and Giants out I had free rein on who to root for in the playoffs. Pittsburgh didn't show up for their second game, Green Bay couldn't get anything done when it mattered today so I'm down to rooting for the Chiefs. They just have too much fun on that team. Back to it and I'll see about showing up tomorrow morning.    Ciao, J.R.

 Eveing Diners

Flo give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Last Friday at work sucked rail spikes! Had 5 customers pretty much wasting time and finally customer came in 20 minutes before closing. While they bought I had to split it with Jerry so I made a extra $4.00. Not worth getting out late. Sigh

Next I stopped at a Motmart. Boy this turned out to be a mess! Told the Cashier I wanted $14.00 in gas in the Lincoln and bought some Beer She got the pump wrong, so I had to go back in. This time she got the pump right but wrong dollar amount. Whistling Pump stopped at $10.00 not $14.00 like I asked for so back inside I went.

Between us wearing a mask and having plexglass between us I think there was a communication problem. She gave me a receipt showing she only charger me for the Beer and took $14.00 off my Discover card. But I cannot tell at his point because it is still in pending.  So I either got $11.00 in free gas or, well there 3 pending charges from that station.

The bad luck kept going when I got home. Wife bought me wrist watch for a early birthday present. While trying to cut the ziplock holding I cut my left thump pretty bad. I had just taken a blood thinner 20 minutes before so it was bleeding pretty bad. Wife was freaking out, but I was able to stop the bleeding pretty quick and healing well.

Having Chile tonight! Dinner Wifes idea of chile is hambuger, beans and tomato paste. But it a good start for me. I add chile power, green chillies, jalapeno peppers, hot chile, chesse, oylster crackers, sour cream topped with minced onions. Dinner

Later Ken and Dirk says "what that smell daddy, it stinks Woof, Woof, Gag.

The windy city yes.  Very familiar as Judy and I could probably be tour guides there.

The shoes we bought for our son Jeremy every year when we went there.  Niketown on Michigan.

The rest of the town was always fun too.

Tinman was in front of Niketown but got interrupted in the middle of our week vacation.  He had his self painted silver and jotted around smiling at all the Kids and made them laugh.

In the middle of the week he informed us he had to take the train to see his mother who was ill.

You wouldn't have believed the other guy that skated in and tried to take over.  He scared all the Kids including Judy and I.

We also knew the guy that knew Tinman that tour guided us through the city for years.  Kept us out of the bad parts of town getting to the good parts of town.  He was a bum but he was a good guy and Judy and I always took care of him like he took care of us.

Haven't been to Chicago for years.  I miss the "Windy City" and the years of fun.

Hello Railfans!

Someone call? Laugh Top of the evening to ya gents (and female units if any are around). We have a glorius 45f and its starting to rain! So, no HUMBUG tonight.

Our illustrious host (Ed) has put us in Michigan today. Ive been waiting for this part of the trip! And wished we had more time here. Ed, yep, i wish i were there... about 100 years ago! Have to take a helmet with me though.... chin strap be the only way to keep my jaw from dragging.

Dining in the 'Club' tonight, par excellance Ed! BTW guys and gals, the second bottle is on me since were in PM country and i claim that line. Home of the 1225, the PMHS, and the famed 'Polar Express'. (Shame we couldnt get Tom Hanks to do a cameo visit. Maybe Rod Stewart???)

Im with John, love the ash trays! And since im prolly one of the only smokers here, dont worry, ill put it to good use! Stogie anyone?

I agree with John again on "thats the way real trains should look". Im not talking about the blue and yellow, they all should say Pere Marquette on the sides. Laugh

Ed, i think were all in agreement here youve done a fabulous job this month. And im really looking forward to what your gonna do with Chicago. Being somewhat of a minor railhub. Laugh

Thanks for the nod to the PM. Its nice to see the ole blue and yellow wave now and then. BTW, howd your 'shots' go today? Have you been effectively de-shingled?

Now, if you guys can tear yourselves away from the football.... whos up for a few hundred rounds of poker, and some bourbon in the smoking section?

Que the gangster music, roll out the flappers if were heading to Chi-Town! Have a great rest of the evening folks!

Clear Ahead!

Yep! All vaccined up! The nurse's name was Kansas. No, I didn't ask Whistling Maybe mom and dad were on vacation at the time?

I did all the pre-check in at home on the CVS web site, got a confirmation number, appointment time and all that. Arrived at the clinic on time and punched all my confirmation stuff in their "kiosk" again then waited.

The attendant asked if I checked in and I assured her I indeed did. Well, you're not in the system. "I have a confirmation number", says I. Well, a confirmation number does me no good if you're not in the system!

So it went for the next fifteen minutes, like an Abbott & Costello routine.

Anyway, got the shot so all is good. Have to go back for round two in a couple months. Hope I'm still "in the system" .

Guess what movie I like to watch when I'm at the caboose?

Best Bridge ever seen by me In the Ozark Mountains

Water flows up there too don't you know  Although it was a little dry when I came through

I was looking for something else but this did do

Center X multiple Pratt trusses work very well as an interest sense has always been my experience traveling

It was Christmas Day and I did notice all the trees were basically dead but that didn't stop me that morning

I toasted a brand new rental cars brakes traveling up and down through the grades and the hair pins in those mountains that day  If I had it to do all over again I would

I did feel the need to pull over by the wayside to take a look

Sorry about that Ed, I reread what I typed and thats not exactly the way i meant it. My thought at the time was, "what will Ed be putting in the show - this time around?" Something we didnt see the first time, what could it be? And that, i am looking forward too. My appologies about the confusion.

(yall should know english wasnt my best subject in school. chasing girls and doodling trains takes way higher priority than schoolwork - just ask any kid.)

I was studying on that ashtray when i noticed that gorgeous damsel next to it (veil and black shoes). Obviously in distress because im not in that empty chair next to her. So it made me write poorly - yeah thats it - blame it on the girl.

Watch, her name prolly be Miss Sippi (as opposed to Kansas). Ofcourse im gonna bust out laughing if her name resembles the potatoe state! Laugh Laugh Laugh

Ed, i have no clue what youd watch in the caboose. But if i was a betting man (which i am) id have to say itd have something to do with that nice looking lightning striped E unit on the screen. Or pullmans..... or both! Something passenger related, but thats just a wild guess. Whistling

As well versed as you are in video, only Mrs Pullman could truely answer that question. Im trying to think of a title, but no bet here. I give, er uncle i mean.

BTW, does this mean no flapper girls?

A#1 North!

A few months ago I posted how about a dozen houses in my neighborhood all came up for sale at the same time. They did not stay on the market long.

It looks like most of them are getting rehabbed and flipped. This one just went up for sale.

They added "Cape Wings" to the driveway, that bumps the price up quite a bit.

This house is also on my street, it is getting the rehab treatment right now too.

I was talking to the guy that is doing these rehabs. He came over to my house, took about a three minute look and offered me $190,000.00 cash, no contingencies or inspections, fast sale.

That is crazy, The appraised value is only about $200,000.00 right now, and it is all torn apart. He said my neighborhood is the hottest area in Cape Coral right now for young homeowners, and he could rehab my house and make a huge profit.

This is all very familiar to what was going on right before the "bubble" popped around 2007.

Oh well, I am going to die in this house, so none of this matters at all. This house is where my train room will be.

I'm not going anywhere either!

The real estate market is strange. My home is supposedly worth almost five times what yours is but it isn't any bigger or fancier. I hope it retains its value but there are warnings of big market adjustments to come caused by Covid-19. Ultimately we are just along for the ride!

Evening all, had slush falling from the sky today and should cool down enough for a few flurries tonight.

Kevin, that would be a $3,000,000.00 to $5,000,000.00 house in Vancouver depending on what side of the city it was on. $200,000.00 is pocket change for a house around here.

Here is my old house I sold 26 years ago, it sold two years ago for just over $3,000,000.00. It is 1950s vintage on a small lot and is nothing special. In fact, most of the other houses on that street have been bulldozed.

When our friends from Zurich visit us, they think our house prices are a bargain.Laugh

The wife made an incredible Roast beef dinner tonight with Yorkshire puddings. She did plenty so we could feed some senior members of the family. The kids hopped in the Batmobile and made the rounds. Last night it was a melt in your mouth pork tenderloin. Big bike time this week.Dinner

Watched the movie Fences tonight and the remake of Papillon last night, both were quite good. I must be getting old as I never would watch TV in the past thinking I would have plenty of time for that when I was old and a couch sloth, so I guess I am there. Having always been someone that participates rather than sits and watch is not going over well with me quite yet as the mind still says go, go, go, while the body saysZzz

I have 13 of the Rapido Supercontinental line coaches that I worked hard at getting to run well and they all do except for one of them. I put it in different parts of the train and turn it around but it constantly derails. I think I will get new trucks for it as a last resort. The other twelve will run all day without issue so this one is just taking me to task and I shall have it!Laugh

Enjoying the trip Ed, thanks for all the hard work on your part. Maybe next month you should carry on with the great circle routing and on the next go-round when you hit Winnipeg we hang a left and go to Churchill Manitoba and get chased by some Polar Bears.Laugh

Well, rack time, Meryl is still awake.MischiefPirate

All the best to all.

Hey, everybody!

Maybe it's my little shingles mingles beefing up my white blood cells, or could it be my eighteen-year old Scotch?

Anyway, I came across this film shot in 1988 from the cab of an Amtrak F40 of the entire Detroit-Chicago trackage reduced to eight minutes or so! I thought it was pretty cool and it was fun to revisit this trackage and see the stations and scenery I remember!

Like I said... It's a trip Indifferent

The house that is for sale is on the market for $315,000.00, it is about 500 square feet larger than my house, and it has a big pool with a huge enclosure.

About 800 square feet of that house is a mother-in-law suite with a small additional kitchen. The rehab also added an outdoor kitchen, which I do not have.

So that house has three kitchens!
