Well, will wonders never cease! Guess what showed up in the mail today? The long lost RDC has finally found its way to Bradford, Ontario, from Chardon, Ohio, via Sydney, Australia! Thanks to Ed's excellent packing everything was in good shape although the box does look a little weary.
Thanks again Ed!
AntonioFP45, it will be in the mail to you soon (minus a couple of bits). Please verify the address that you want it sent to via PM.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Its a bonafide miracle!
I'll bet you are relieved Dave.

Living the dream.
Evening
Put the bridge away for the night and thought I'd check in before I hit the rack.
We're going to Saint Paul tomorrow Ed? Nice!
I think the mosquito is the Minnesota state bird. But relax, they tend to be less frequent in the winter As far as the lutefisk soaked in lye a lot of the Norwegians Rave about up here. Yuck No Thanks, I never tried the stuff.
I remember that wedding you talked about quite a while ago John. Up by Leech Lake and the preacher was late. I think he was at the wrong Lake up by Fergus Falls.
I'm glad you finally got your package Dave It's bout time, I'm sure you are glad too
Tired and hitting the rack. I'll see you guys tomorrow

Saints Be Praised, Dave! I'm planning a trip into town tomorrow and I was actually thinking of stopping by the P.O. to see about getting a refund on the postage
Glad I won't have to fight that battle. I'll bet those little people inside the RDC are pretty hungry! No diner
They say the wheels of government turn slowly. No truer words were spoken!
I rode a Chicago to Buffalo train once and the customs agents got on board in Detroit and rode to Windsor while checking passengers. I doubt that's done now. I seem to recall one of the cross-border trains allowing at least one hour for customs to do their work while the train was isolated at the station.

CapnCrunch in normal times, how would one cross the border on a train. Does the train stop on either side of the border for a passport check? Is customs involved?

I do not know as I have never made the journey, but maybe it is like on a cruise ship.
When we did a Caribbean cruise a few years back on QM2 Customs Officials boarded the ship in St Thomas and as we sailed to New York they checked passports etc..

I hope Kevin gets the package soon. I did send it.

"Ed or Kevin - Notwithstanding Covid, in normal times, how would one cross the border on a train. Does the train stop on either side of the border for a passport check? Is customs involved?"
As far as the cross border train from New York to Montreal on the 'Adirondack', the train travels a little further after the last stop in NY northbound or the last stop in Quebec southbound, in the middle of nowhere. Customs and Immigration officers board the train and check everyone's passports while asking various questions and also bring a dog. The train is stopped for about half an hour or so, depending how smooth things are going. Again, this is the procedure on that particular train, but I imagine it is similar elsewhere.

One of my teeth broke yesterday, I was able to get into dentist this morning and he was able to fix it.
now I have half a numb face.
I think I shared a while back that in the 1990s, we were on a tour. Our bus left Seattle for Vancouver to catch a ship.
At the border, the bus was stopped, and the Canadian officer came onto the bus and asked that everyone who was not a U.S. or Canadian citizen to get off the bus with their IDs and passports. They did not check any U.S. or Canadian citizens.
The tour guide said she was never sure what they would do. Sometimes they checked everyone, sometimes just U.S. citizens, sometimes just non-North Americans, etc.

Not a nice way to start the day, but better than waiting for several days with the pain. Tooth pain -- the worst!
Good Morning,
To get across the border by land you need a passport or a special drivers license. When we used to cross to visit our friends we just used a passport. Our Diner will actually pass right by the edge of our friends property. The border has been closed to all non-essential crossing since last May .
Ed, nice video about my town, Winnipeg. We live near the river. There is a small RR museum in the station on some track no longer used. The first steam loco, theCountess of Dufferin is housed there. It came to Winnipeg by steamboat up the Red River from the U. S.
Another warm day here. I have errands this afternoon,

Hats off to Canadians for their fine hospitality as the Diner rolled across western Canada in recent days. ..... and to Ed for hosting the trip.
Dave ..... Wow ! .... The RDC already has thousands of miles on it. Almost time to trade it in.

Dinner will be Mushroom Pasta with all the trimmings.

The crown I had installed last month finally stopped being uncomfortable.
I notice Steve keeps popping up in the users online section.
I hope he comes aboard the diner to say hello.

just sore jaw from shot and work but tooth seems fine now.

Hi Everyone,
I realize I'm a day late and a dollar short on when the diner was in CA; however, I'd still like to share a couple of photos I took at the Tehachai Loop last October. The pictures were taken on my iPhone so they aren't going to be close ups, but perhaps you can zoom in and see the trains better. It was quite an experience. It sure would've been nice to have seen some cab forwars pull a train or two through the loop, but alas, I don't think the UP has any plans on reviving one.
Enjoy!

Steve-O is one cool editor I've enjoyed his articles over the years and kind of miss him around here too. I don't know why he doesn't come around no more? Ya suppose we all may be a little too rambunctious for him?
Well I see we didn't make it to Saint Paul today. Very understandable after Kevin's Mason Jar Drinks floating all around the Train last night during the Captain's Cocktail Hour. But I seen He got up just before the "Crack of Noon" today I think even Ed, ...Our Conductor Tour Guide Host may have possibly had a few belts himself last night
Well, I sat at the table working on my bridge nightmare all afternoon. Still ain't going too good but I never let that stop me before Oh Well, I'll try again tomorrow
Post Hog !
Well, "When it rains it pours" It seems that everyone's package is coming in at the same time
I just got an email my PECO sleeper ties just arrived and I can pick them up in the office at 6:30, .....Sweeeet!

Hello Railfans!
Top of the day to ya! Sunny and into the 50s so only a partial HUMBUG today. Party last night musta been a good one i dont remember making it back to my berth. Or even if it was my berth? Oh well, just like the old days aye?
Dave Critter) Man, finally huh? Glad it arrived. Does it have a bunch of stickers on the windows of everywhere its been? Must be a good day all around, you got your RDC, TF got his ties, and i was informed today that Parlor car i picked up last week is sposed to be sitting in my PO Box right now.
I usually give it a day because their "right now" doesnt usually match our "right now". Add 24 hours and the schedules match. Dont ask me, i think thats what you get when your scientists start messing around with quantum theories and they shouldnt!
Moe stooge) Tooth problems are an understated pain! Not many folks consider the advantages of dentures. They fun to take out at partys and real easy to keep clean - remove/sandblast/rinse/replace/smile. Hope you feel better.
Im gonna mosey around the site a bit. See what havoc i can cause. Ill check back before i leaf.

It appears TF may be tracklaying tomorrow.
The answer to the bonus round on Wheel Of Fortune tonight was LOCAL HOBBY SHOP. My wife figured it out before I did. How embarassing.

Track fiddlerI think the mosquito is the Minnesota state bird.
The state bird of Florida is the mockingbird, supposedly because they eat mosquitoes. They also are terribly territorial and fearless.
Heartland Division CB&QSteve O is always welcome in the Diner .
I have tried to bring him out of lurking, but I guess he has other things to do. I miss his commentary, goodies, and participation.
up831 I'd still like to share a couple of photos I took at the Tehachai Loop last October.
Thank you for sharing the pictures. I was not able to go train-watching on the Tehachapi Loop when I was in California. Maybe on another trip I will get the chance.
