Good morning, everyone! The diner is still in Canada, so I know we will be seeing some great scenery through the day.
I'm just about through with the my extra project, and then I can get back to layout work.
Finally. Finally. We finally got the bill for the kitchen island and paid it. That is the final step, and it feels good to have it over. Evidently the countertop people weren't hard up for money. It took forever to get their bill.
When I was in college, a friend and I had a summer job in North Dakota. We decided one day to drive into Canada just to say we had been there. We were out in the middle of nowhere, and the highway went straight into Canada with no signs or stop signs. There was a border crossing building off to the side, but no signs. Being young, stupid, and not paying attention, we just drove right on straight through. We were chased down by a Canadian border guard. It cost us about an hour as they searched our car inch-by-inch.
Have a good day, everyone.
York1 John
I'll have Canadian Tim Hortons coffee with an original TH donut, please.
Ed ..... Thanks for stopping at the museum in Revelstoke. I did not get to see it when we were in Canada as our train just rolled through town without any station stops.
John York 1 ...... In those days, border crossings were much simpler. Most of my trips by car to/from Canada were either at Detroit / Windsor or at Port Huron / Sarnia. For flying, the customs and immigration is handled in airports of course.

LION is still here!
Good to hear from you Lion!
That is one mouth watering looking dish that leaves nothing left to be desired from its presentation.
I can tell by the grill lines it was cooked hot and flipped, sliced against the grain seven minutes after it rested like it supposed to be. Perfect pink in the middle
Ed, Thank you for continuing the great job you're doing, ...Enjoyed! The host with the most
P.S. Being that I lived up by the Canadian border for many years John, I seen more than my share of Border activity.
I got searched thoroughly a few times and those guys can do whatever they want. They can take your wheels off, pop the tires and look inside. Trust me, they don't rebalance them when they put them back on and that's just your tough luck. I'm sure my long hair didn't help matters back then
My PS's lately, sure is helping with my Post Hog problem
TF
Lion .... I'm also glad to see you.
TF ..... Good morning
Good morning Garry!
Always good to hear from you as well
Good morning guys,
Brunhilda, I'll have a Bloody Mary to go with the egg on my face...
Okay, so I screwed up...big time.
Last night, I bought drinks for our recent diner hosts because my railroading education has benefited tremendously from the wealth of information they have been providing. At the time of my post, I was anxious that I might have left someone out since there are so many of you who share your knowledge so freely on this forum. And then...
As soon as I finished my post, I came across the Forum User 2021 Yearbook created by Kevin. That reminded me that I need to let Kevin know that I appreciate his recent practice of ending his posts with a picture of The World is a Beautiful Place, and to thank him for reposting his "What do you get out of these forums and what keeps you around", and for placing avatars on the RIP track, and for the new diner logo, and for WPF, and for...well, you get the idea.
So, tonight I'm buying drinks again with Kevin as the guest of honor. To make sure I don't miss anyone, the whole yearbook gang is invited including the weebles.

Late to the model railroad party but playing catch-up.....
An old hockey friend told us the secret of crossing the border with a young child. Carry a plastic potty, and make sure it's properly "weathered" when you get to the border. The guards want no part of your car.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
As I like cooking I took a look into the Kitchen Car and spoke to the Chef (to pick up some tips.) He had a little pastry left and let me make some 'cheese and onion straws'. I was going to bring them to the Diner, but the Staff enjoyed them, so there is none left.
To make amends the Chef is allowing me to make the main course dinner tonite.
Porky Papadelle is the menu tonite. 7.00 for 7.30.
The Cap'n is generously buying drinks again.

Good Morning,
We could make a side trip to the Radium Hot Springs just south of Golden. Nice in winter. Although I live in Winnipeg, my employer had dealer stores in many smaĺl towns all over western Canada and I visited many of them often for a week or more so BC is very familiar to me especially in winter.
No plans today. My wife finally went to bed at 10 a.m. so I will be quiet. Robbie is sleeping on the sofa beside me, the gas fireplace is on and I have fresh coffee, roasted in Invermere, BC , a small town not far from Radium. I have spent a lot of time there. I carried a new set of lock tumblers with me and did my first change there. Part of my job then was taking back dealer stores that had failed. I was in charge of credit.
See you later.

I will gladly join you for a round of drinks tonight... thank you for all of your kind words.

Living the dream.
I'll be there! I'll even chip in on the tab for the guest of honor. That yearbook was a neat idea!
Hello Railfans!
Top of the day to ya! Hope everyone is well today. I noticed my yard was still intact when i woke up, no strange SUV ornaments. Yet M. Tomei is still not in my driveway. HUMBUG!
Got a blast of warm weather today - made it up to 38 i think. Ofcourse it was.... sunny. So it is a dull, bland day here.
Funny thing popped up on the radar today. I was surfing the 'bay' when i came across a Honda 2-8-4. Im not into Lionel, but being a PM model i had to look. I havent taken out a car loan since the 80s, but do banks have payment plans for models now? I would love to see what a title looks like for that Toyota Berkshire, honestly i would.
I digress. I recently had to promise to behave more civil and rein in my sarcasm. Still cant help wonder though.... what the payments would be!!
So, theres a party later in Kevins honor. Yeah Kevin, good job on that. It was nice to see my moniker placed in such good company. And ofcourse, under Ed's fine tutaledge, im sure the venue for this evening shall be appropo.
On the subject of Ed, yes sir, this month has been a very good month for the Diner (aside from Bear hording the ice cream back in Texas!). Here, have a stogie, my apologies its not from Havanna mahn.
Whats the code for this evening? Formal.... normal..... or..... RAILFAN! Come as your favorite conductor. See yall there!
A#1 North!

Good evening ....
Hello, Douglas. Where is everyone else ?
Hey there Garry! I dunno where everyone else is. Prolly getting dressed for the occasion. But you know how the railroads are, they like to stay on schedule so i say we commence to painting the train red.
Someones gotta check the sudsy stuff to make sure its quality stuff.... right? I mean, what kinda pals would we be if we let our friends drink sub standard hooch?
Here.... Ill pour.... Stay thirsty my friend!
I'm here for the party. Where's the beer?
York1 I'm here for the party. Where's the beer?
Until TF arrives, I guess I'll take a stab at post hogging.
Garry - It's good to see you this evening.
Douglas - Thanks for the PrintScreen tip. I'd forgotton all about that option.
John - You lived dangerously as a young man, hanging over the rail on skyscraper and attempting to crash the border with our friends to the north! Glad that you survived all that and were able to attend tonight.

After a few rounds tonight, if I sound interested when someone suggests we climb onto the roof of the moving dining car, have the porter lock me into my roomette.
Good evening everybody.
It is just after 9:00 here, and I am drinking vodka and orange juice from a mason jar. You can't get much more Florida than that.
I returned three Netflix movies on DVD via USPS last Thursday. All mailed on the same day at the same location. I received the first new movie on Saturday, and the second one today. That is pretty spotty. I wonder when the third one will arrive.
The USPS has been doing exceptionally well with all my packages and other mail, so all is good I suppose.
The World Is A Beautiful Place.
Don't start without me! I'm always casually late. Are you kidding! I wouldn't miss the Captain's cocktail hour for all the ballast in Cleveland. I'll take one of those mason jars Kevin has and hope we don't both get canned Where's Brent anyway? He's always good for a rum and coke

Good evening Kevin,
Welcome to the party. Your choice of adult beverage sounds very stylish. How come you rent the Netflix DVDs? Mrs. Crunch subscribes to Netflix and we view it through the internet. Is renting less expensive?
Hi TF. Glad you could make it. I hereby relinquish the post hog duties back to you.
Howdy! That's okay Cap'n, I've been trying to cut down, I've been using the PS function lately
CapnCrunch How come you rent the Netflix DVDs? Mrs. Crunch subscribes to Netflix and we view it through the internet. Is renting less expensive?
I have both streaming and DVDs. There are about 100 times more movies available on DVD than on streaming.
Hello Kevin, Douglas, John Y!, TF, and Tim....
Looks like a quorum in the forum !

Welcome to Winnipeg! Moving right along (a bit early, even!) if you have the time this video is pretty neat from Auntie Beeb —
Tomorrow we will pile on to a Soo Line train, The Winnipegger, #10 and head to Saint Paul for the evening.

We're headed in your direction, TF! Be Warned
I hope everyone is doing well tonight.
Sadly, I cancelled my DVD Netflix account after more than fifteen years. The current failure of the Post Office here only allowed me to see four or five movies a month. My most recent ones were taking twelve to fourteen days to return and send a new one.
Cheers, Ed
I just made myself another drink.
It has been terrible outside today. Cool with a light rain, the sun is nowhere in sight.
It looks like our travels will take us to Fiddler's backyard tomorrow.
SeeYou190It has been terrible outside today. Cool with a light rain, the sun is nowhere in sight.
I'll be in Florida in six weeks. I expect you to provide good weather by then!
My youngest daughter got married at a lake in Minnesota. That was six years ago, and I haven't been back since. I love it there. (Except at sundown. They have huge carnivorous animals that fly and suck your blood. Also, many of the Minnesota people suffer from a condition that causes them to like the taste of lye-soaked fish.)
Edit: Top of Page. Since we're at a party tonight in the diner while we roll along, I'll spring for the next round of whatever you're having. I want another ice-cold beer.
Ed - The tour through praries of Manitoba was very scenic and the history lesson was very informative. I can't believe you were able to convince the authorities to let us inside the mint though. Did they know the risk they were taking?
Ed or Kevin - Notwithstanding Covid, in normal times, how would one cross the border on a train. Does the train stop on either side of the border for a passport check? Is customs involved?
York1I'll be in Florida in six weeks. I expect you to provide good weather by then!
At the end of February, the weather should be perfect. There might be a bad day here and there, but overall perfection.
However, less than five months until the start of Hurricane Season.

I have no idea. I only went to Canada once, in 1991, and there was almost zero border security.
