MMMMMMMM, good beer. Thanks, Kevin.

I remember getting to watch the NFB films in elementary school and of course being asked to go down the hall to get the projector was always a thrill.

Something a little more current.

I was watching a television show with my wife tonight. An advertisement came on for something, I cannot recall what they were trying to sell.

Anyway, in the ad, they showed a Moon Rover driving about on the Moon and driving through craters and kicking up dust.

On the bottom of the ad it said "professional driver, do not attempt".

I am not sure if it was a joke or not, but I found it very funny. Maybe too funny, because I have no idea what the advertisement was for.

Where's that picture from Kevin?

Quite unique with the different colors of rock formations?

Where's that picture from Kevin?

I honestly don't remember. I took it on my trip West in 2019, but I cannot say exactly where I was.

Even though I had no answer, Thank you for asking.

May map does not include Canada.

I'm slipping! My best copy is from the 1960 Official Guide. It is pretty detailed but I think you can follow along. Revelstoke, Banff are on our route:

I saw the very same ad and said the same thing! I pick apart every TV ad I see. Every week there's a new, unpronouncable prescription medication offered.

Options shown.

Thanks for the Modelo Beer Kevin! I'm glad Mexican beer is brewed with Mexican water! Wouldn't want it any other way Beer My Guinness is brewed with water from the River Liffey and it is probably the same color coming out of "The Pipes" as it goes into the bottle.

David, where you live, is it always cold and snowy during your winters?  I wasn't sure how much snow and icy weather parts of the UK got.

Most years we get very little snow, but 'Jack Frost' is always busy.   When we get any snow  the world seems to stop (according to the BBC).  The trouble here is as soon as there is any snow or ice,  it is wet and cold.

When I was young and daft (now I am old and daft)  I was able to buy a 'All Rover'  train ticket for a week or fortnight.   It covered the whole of England Scotland and Wales. I would arrive at the station and take  the first main line train out  -  no matter where it was going.   At the nd of the journey look around the town for a little time.  Then board the next train out.

On one trip in wintertime, I boarded an overnight out of Inverness (Scotland).   In the same compartment were two girls from Boise,  Idaho.  They told me they could not stand the cold and wet,  even though the temperature was around 32 degrees F.   They said the temperature in Boise was much colder and drier.

Ken.  I hope things change for the better.  Think and remain positive.

Coffee  coffee time.  Getting the blueberry muffins out.

Good Morning All,

shop sunrise by J.R. Mitchell, on Flickr" alt="shop sunrise" />

19F this morning. Thanks David, the coffee and blueberry muffins are just perfect. May finally be getting somewhere on the house hunt. Took a second look at one yesterday, then a second and the third has been unresponsive so we dropped it from the list. A couple of weeks ago we had looked at a pair that were not on the market and the lady has decided to sell the one we thought would be perfect so we are in before it is even listed. Not counting my chickens yet but we shall see.

Still packing stuff up and cleaning in the basement. When the dust settles I think an Ebay cleanout is going to be in order. Do the rest of you have twice the rolling stock you might ever use? I had no idea.    Got to run, high in the thirties again today but warmer (of course with rain) forecast later this week.  Ciao, J.R.

Good morning.  A nice, sunny, frosty morning for my walk today.  Today will be above freezing, so some of the snow will go away.

Gold luck with the house-hunting, JR.  I'm hoping I won't be in your situation -- I dread a move.

We have all the kids and grandkids for Christmas each year, usually for four or five days.  One of the things my wife does is to put out holiday M&Ms -- lots of M&Ms.  It's now been two weeks since everyone left, and I'm still pigging out on M&Ms.  I don't usually eat candy (or any sweets), but since the M&Ms are sitting there, I'm eating them, by the handfuls.  I will be glad when they are finally gone.

Another minor house project has come up, so no layout work for another couple of days.

Hope everyone stays healthy.

Howdy ....

Ed .... Your maps are helpful. The train trip of our family when I was a kid in 1957 could not have passed through Winnipeg as I had posted. The CP Line to the US border and the Soo Line connects with the CP main line just east of Moose Jaw. I corrected my earlier post accordingly. .... You are doing a fantastic job hosting our trip in January. There must be a lot of snow in the Canadian Rockies now.

Ken .... Glad you are with us, and I hope you are feeling better.

JR .... House hunting? I must have missed what you said about that. Best wishes to you.

Every week there's a new, unpronouncable prescription medication offered.

That seems very true. I do not take any medication, but my wife takes one that is advertised constantly. All the people in the ad for this medication are hiking, running, smiling, hanging out with friends, and loving life. None of that happens with the real medication. It just keeps you from dying.

It is interesting that they use actors in their 30s and 40s in perfect shape to advertise a medicine for a condition people develop in their 60s when they are out of shape.

GMTRacing
Do the rest of you have twice the rolling stock you might ever use?

On the "spare bedroom" layout I had probably four times as much rolling stock that would fit on the layout. I gave almost all of it away when I took the layout down, saving only the STRATTON AND GILLETTE freight cars. All of those real world prototype models had to go.

For the "final lifetime" layout, I figured I will need 125 cars or so. I am already past that number, and I have not even begun the layout yet!

I'm glad to hear it's not just me Kevin. I suppose if I had spent more time building instead of acquiring it would have been better but like you circumstances get in the way.

Gary, the move was instigated by the CFO who is really unhappy with the neighbors we've had move in and the general tenor of the city. The oldest moved about 40 minutes north of us to a more rural area and she also wants to be closer to the firstborn grandchild so we are looking. I'm ok not moving, but she is home with just the dogs up to 30 weeks a year and I feel a responsibility to honour her wishes. We live on the edge of downtown and between the noise and traffic I admit I'm over it too so a move is fine.      Ciao, J.R.

On a visit to Orlando a few years ago, I went in the M&M store. They had a limited edition flavor... SALTED CARAMEL WITH TOFFEE CHIPS!

They were so good. I have been back several times, and this flavor has never been available again.

Hi Ed,

As expected, you're doing an outstanding job with this epic cross-country tour.  I'll be running an open tab at the bar tonight for you, NorthBrit Dave, Ja Bear and Dave Hon30 to show my appreciation for the recent diner hosts and the education they've been providing.

On another note, I'm very interested in obtaining a jpeg version of the railroad map you just posted, particularly the US portion.  I will be using it as an exhibit to post in the the Layout section or possibly the Prototype section with a railroad history question I would like to put to the group.

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!

Hello Railfans!

Top of the evening to ya! Interesting day here. Started with the end of my last evening rather, but thats daytime to yall. Confused? Good - situation normal then.

About 630ish am something shook this house with a good noise to boot. Thought someone kicked in my front door and i was about to experience my first home invasion. RED ALERT!

Come to find out it was some yahoo entrusted with the safe operation of an automobile that had just taken out the corner section of a 3' tall stone wall which stands at the corner of this property and the next. Rolled that puppy too! The auto that is.

About an hour after that mess was cleaned up someone comes and parks an unknown camper trailer in the private parking lot across from this house. No people, no pets, not even the vehicle that dropped the trailer. Just a trailer sitting there..... why? Blocking private parking spaces.

Finally, about 10ish am i can get to bed. A bit late for me. I wake up later to find a weathered and somewhat dishevled box on my doorstep. Why is this odd? Because of the nature of my driveway being the fourth side of a 4 way intersection (another side being the finish line/starting line [depending on direction] of a local race track), delivery carriers dont stop here for obvoius safety reasons - i have to us a PO Box to recieve stuff (FedEX and UPS too).

So i check out the box. What do i find? A box full of high capicity magazines for high powered assault type weapons. GEEEEZMUS! I thought i said i needed Kadees! Laugh

So, thats how my days been so far and i just woke up. Anyone else "have a nice day"?

Now, im not upset... im not even griping. Im just curious. Instead of some loser in a SUV taking out part of my wall, why couldnt Marissa Tomei show up in my driveway in a brand new Corvette? Instead of some questionable camper... why not AC/DC's tour bus? Instead of a box of assault weapons i have no use for (i use WMDs, not pee shooters) why not a box of freshly minted USRA Hoppers from Tichy (or couplers from Kadee)? Atleast if its to be 'magazines'.... why not MR or Classic Trains?

Makes me wonder who got that winning ticket when the great hand of fate reached in the fishbowl of daily life and pulled out our daily chores today. I know what i got! Laugh

Its a yellow over red day folks,

Doulgas

PS: if you ever have problems saving a pic from online, remember..... theres this little forgotten key up in the upper right corner of your keyboard called "Prt Scr" or "Prt Scn". Simply means "Print Screen". Its not literal!

It wont send a screenshot to your printer, it sends it to the "clipboard". Simply open up ANY graphics program you have (or Word, Excel, anything just about) and just hit "paste" in that application. POOF - theres your screenshot ready to save in ANY format your application can save in.... Png, Jpg, Tif, and the list goes on.

Helpful for when "Save As", "Save Target As", etc dont work OR are not available.

Use with discretion

Good Evening,

Ed, before we leave the Rockies we should stop at Revelstoke. It has a really nice railway museum that has a Mikado inside, one of the last delivered to CP. When we get to Winnipeg if still with the Canadian, we will arrive at CP's station which hasn't been used as a station for 50 years or so. We would have to transfer to Union Station which Via uses. That was CN's station used also by GN and NP. We could also stay over at the Fort Garry Hotel, a beautiful, restored railway hotel originally built by the GTW in 1913 I believe which became part of CN when the GTW went bankrupt. If we are there on Sunday they put on a brunch that is mindboggeling.

I didn't do anything with the RR today, it was grocery day.

Good evening diners.

I just cracked open a cold one, I have had a great day.

I made Chicken Alfredo with corkscrew pasta for dinner tonight. I marinated the chicken overnight and browned it slowly for about an hour on the stovetop. The final product was amazing. I was so satisfied with the way this dinner turned out.

The drywall texture crew will be here Friday. Then I have a lot of painting to do.

I am running out of winter fast, and I still have work to do in the attic. I better get on that quick or else it will be very hot up there soon.

I hope all are well.

Good Morning All,

14F but the wind is still so not so bad this morning. Thanks Dave for laying on the coffee and muffins it's much appreciated.

Moving to close on the late entry in the great house hunt. Close to New Milford, Ct center but not on a main road or shortcut so the raceway aspect will be minimized. Full details to follow as I don't want to jinx it but a full basement is in store. Yippee.

For those of you struggling with the PECO N scale (I assume code 55) track, when I redid the track on the museum layout, I used a scrap bit of track, put a blob of solder near the end to stop the joiner pushing on too far and then plantd the other end into a piece of plastic I bored seating it with epoxy. That allowed the joiner to be pushed on halfway to at least one side of the join. Still a pain for us old folks with arthur itis.

Once I catch up email and posts, back to pulling the motor from my Lotus7 to send for freshening.     Catch you all later, Ciao, J.R.
