Living the dream.
report on Mississippi House,
The former deputy I met two years ago is a good guy, He found me a new door, went and bought it and had a guy that could install it. He had also had boarded up the door to secure it before the new door got installed.
I drove down this morning met them at 11 am they had the door removed and new one installed by 1:30 and we left to come back home by 2:30. I could have never done all that myself in that amount of time as I would not have had the tools. door was installed for $75 ( I had to buy door of course but it was $90) plywood was $25. I am going to use the plywood to build a new crawlsapce door that they tore up as well. The only thing I could find missing was a cheap drill , maybe a level and maybe a crowbar. ( I may had brought those items home )
we figure it was the druggie miscreants ( riff raff) next door.
New alarm system goes in soon down there.
The orignial burgler from a year and half ago is in state prison now. ( guess he should not have stolen my shoes ( third strike)) He had been the one who broke in and was living there for weeks hiding from the police.
gmpullmanThat plant manager, Bob Nardelli, went on to become the CEO of Home Depot where they gave him $ 210 million to quit!
What plant was that?
It must have been after that when he became the big honcho of GE Power Systems, the turbine and generator people. That's the part I worked for.
When Jack (the hitman) Welch retired, Mr.N. was in the running to be a replacement along with Jeff Immelt and one other. I said to myself let it be anyone other than Bob. Well I got my wish, which turned out not to be a good thing.
But what I don't understand about corporate USA is why companies would hire individuals with dubious track records. For example not only did Bob make a mess of Home Depot, he went on to do the same for Chrysler. Or maybe it was the other way around. Anyway, back then there seemed to be some attraction to former GE management. Must have been some allure to that 6-sigma feldercarb.
One thing that I'm certain of is that when you asked him about the sugarcoating he put a checkmark next to your name in his employee book. I was guilty of asking similar questions when we had our employee meetings. I believe the other attendees would bet on how long it would take me to ask. The winner was usually someone who picked less than a half hour. There were enough checkmarks after my name that they needed another book.
maxmanOn another subject, you're an ex-GE person, correct? Did you happen to look at the return address on the missive you probably just got concerning pension funding?
Ha! I did notice that.
It used to be called One HR Service! I thought that was a dry cleaners!
Another thing I noticed in the Pension Funding Statement was "Rules Governing Termination of Single-Employer Plans" and mention of the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp! Storm warnings?
GE was good at coming up with those "clever" names for things. I think Dilbert used to have fun with that stuff.
I pressed our plant manager once when there was a downturn in buseness. At an employee meeting he said "there may be time-outs". I said do you think we're a bunch of two-year olds? Why do you have to sugar-coat layoffs and call them time-outs.
Well, that's the "corporate policy". That plant manager, Bob Nardelli, went on to become the CEO of Home Depot where they gave him $ 210 million to quit!
Actually, that model GG1 sure looks better than the real Bicentennial paint job that "Old Rivets" carried for a while!

Some of those Bicentennial schemes were just awful. Others were pretty well executed.

Thanks Bear and Maxman, the wee lad that had asked me now has a couple of leads and now knows it is not worth the small fortune he thought it was.

I don't know why any snack company would want to attach that to a bag of snacks, unless it all came in the cookie tin.
Edit: Other link above says AHM. I think they're the same with a name change to protect the innocent.
howmusYou might live in Upstate New York if your proud that your region makes the National News 96 nights a year
And you might live in Pennsylvania if you have little white Christmas candle lights in your windows.
BATMANAnyone know anything about this?
Sum imfourmashion...

BATMANShould of had the steak instead.
Yep I was fixing that when you posted.... When I was a student at Eastman, my methods teacher once told me in front of the entire class in a very loud voice, "Raymond!!! You are not going to gtraduate from Eastman Shool of Music until YOU LEARN how to spell RHYTHM!!!!" I finally did and gradgeatedid.....
Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
howmusMost likely it is in responce to me lighting the grill to cook a small stake for supper......
Should of had the steak instead.
Me again.....
Just looked out the window and we are now having a Blizzard..... One thing about Upstate New York, If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute. It will probably get worse at least this time of year. LOL Most likely it is in responce to me lighting the grill to cook a small steak for supper......

BATMANMaybe you should head for the country Kevin.
Nope. The rural areas can be even worse as far as noise goes. I know several people that "escaped" to the country, only to get the wrong neighbors, and then there really is nothing you can do about it.
I also need to be within 5 minutes of absolutely everything I could possibly need/want. I cannot imagine having the hankering for a Cuban Sandwich, and not be able to get one immediately.
I am a city dweller. If I ever were to leave Cape Coral it would be for Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York City.

Howdy again....
GMTRacingAh Ray. I worked with a person like that when I cross decked to the Coral Sea (nickname "Zippo" cause it caught fire all the time). any time he left the ship it would rain hence his nickname Black Cloud. Our own version of Joe Btfsplk.
Well...... Deep subject.
I got my final trip around the neighborhood in just a few minutes ago so I am finished walking outside for today. I actually ran the entire loop and only stopped for a minute to chat with an attractive lady who lives on the corner near my house for a minute or so (from 6 foot away to be properly social distanced). Hey, ya gotta do what you gotta do! . The sun is now out and there weren't any little white things falling this time. WOW! The temp is now all of 38°F out there though.

I want whatever is in the bucket marked "cookies".
ED! Save meeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!
maxmanA green snack bag with a prize attached?
Here is what happens within six weeks of Cape Coral announcing they have suspended code enforcement due to the coronavirus:
Two houses North of me, trailers with two boats, boring equipment, and other industrial devices:
House Southwest of mine, two tow trucks are now being parked in the backyard:
It does not take long for this to become normal, then it becomes hard to get rid of.
BATMAN Anyone know anything about this?

Hopefully the sun will shine tomorrow.
Howdy ...
Brent .... Yes, the second house makes more sense. Nice !
Ed ..... Thanks for posting the phto of the CN steam loco you rode behind when you were a young.
Kevin ... Nice signals.
JR .... You are making a lot of prgress with your layout.
....
While we are in BC, I can post some photos of our 2002 trip on the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Calgary. ... Most pictures are looking over the single level caoches ahead of the full length dome car we rode in. .... Today, the Rocky Mountaineer has a different paint scheme than it had in 2002.
First two photos are leaving Vancouver.
Here we are heading through the canyon to Kamloops.
CN and CP have tracks on opposite sides of the canyon. They coordinate operations so all eastbound trains are on one railroad, and all westbound trains are on the other railroad.
So, we can see trains running on the other side of the canyon going in the other direction.
I will post more pictures in the days ahead.

Afternoon folks....
SeeYou190Nobody likes him, THEY NEVER LIKED HIM!
I can see why!
Everytime I go outside today it gets dark and starts to snow..... I have done two of my three walks around the neighborhood so far and no it is not "A beautiful day in the neighborhood" when I go out there. As soon as I go back inside the house, the sun comes out. Go figure? Currently 44°F with 35 mph breese out there. Need to get at least one more loop around to get my 5 miles of walking/running in. Yep I have started trying to run about 2/3rds of the loop each time I go out.
You know you might be a true Upstate New Yorker when "vacation" means going South past Syracuse for the weekend.
SeeYou190He is a handyman.
I thought you were a handy man. No, wait. That might be another poster.
maxmanAnd who might that be? Not a self-portrait I hope.
That is Riff Raff, played by Richard Obrien in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
He is a handyman.
Nobody likes him, THEY NEVER LIKED HIM!
OK, that's enough of that.
SeeYou190 Sorry guys, since 1975, THIS has been the definition of Riff Raff: -Kevin
Sorry guys, since 1975, THIS has been the definition of Riff Raff:
maxmanIt is riff-raff. Two definitions found on the Net: "A group of disreputable people of low social position; the dregs of society."
gmpullmanNaw, the pork butts were plenty.
I like Pig Butts, and I cannot lie... and you other fellas can't deny.
thanks for looking the definition up Maxman. I was pretty sure there were two f's involved in the two words but I was in a hurry and it took too long to type them.
If you have spare ribs Ed, I have a place for them on my plate. What's that? You ate them all already? Oh well.
gmpullmanNaw, the pork butts were plenty. It was the choice of ribs that were spare. I like the short baby-backs but all they had were those huge Saint-Louis style. I suffered through, though. I'll have a bone to pick with the butcher, next time.
So, they were spare ribs?
And you'll have a bone to pick?
Ouch, now I have a headache.
On another subject, you're an ex-GE person, correct? Did you happen to look at the return address on the missive you probably just got concerning pension funding? I think it used to be employee relations or some such. Now it says "People Operations". When did that happen?
Guess they wanted to operate on us without having to bother with relations.
maxmanPork butts? Did you say a slim selection of pork butts?
Naw, the pork butts were plenty. It was the choice of ribs that were spare.
I like the short baby-backs but all they had were those huge Saint-Louis style. I suffered through, though. I'll have a bone to pick with the butcher, next time.
