Got the GG1 and so far I love it! I will say the couplers but me off, they looked way to high!

Glad it got to you OK, Ken.

I sent along a spare Kadee coupler. These are NEM style. "couplers but me off" ??

I checked all my other GG1s and the height is fine using the Kadee gauge. Not sure I can understand the problem.

Have fun. Hope she runs well for you.

I agree Ed, one of my favorites as well, along with the grain elevator film:

I agree, Mike. The Grain Elevator film is what every documentary should be. I've watched that a dozen times, maybe more.

Good Evening,

Raining here and expecting some white stuff tomorrow.

Dave, great job moving the Diner.

If you go on the NFB ( National Film Board) website you can find quite a few films done about railroading in the '50s. There is even a Buster Keaton film called Rail Rodder in which Buster goes coast to coast on a jigger ( well that is what they used to call them here).

We made the final gocery run yesterday and my wife is worried she caught something as a couple of idiots weren't 6 feet apart and were laughing and shouting in her direction. Odds are low as there aren't many confirmed cases here so far. I think we are now stocked for 2 months. I don't plan on going to the store again for a few weeks. All non-essential businesses are shut as of today.

I bet we don't get much for the garden as in flowers this year. My wife does a beautiful job on our back yard but it takes many trips to the garden centres and is quite expensive as in over $500 just for flowers. We will have to cut back in the current circumstances. There is a nice CPR Jubilee on the Brass Trains website and on sale but I'll have to pass.

We were watching TV in the bedroom last night. Robbie can't see the set from the floor so he goes to a floor length mirror and watches the TV reflection.

Think I'll go listen to some oldies on the headphones. I like Elvin Bishop's Fooled Around and Fell in Love. That will make a nice start.

Stay safe,

CN Charlie

Yeah... they have a SOUTHERN 4-6-2 with Elecsco FWH for $212.00, and I am passing... given the present circumstances... darn.

That certainly seems to be a possibility. We will just have to rely on the perennials.

Good Morning All,

Mid 30's and broken cloud cover this morning. I got in early to meet the Shred-It guy as the doggies have a vets appointment at the same time. Seems to be lots more traffic today though maybe the half hour earlier time accounts for it.

Got more time on the substation last night though a lot of the time was spent on a family text around. So far so good on that front. The Nova Scotia branch seems less worried than the New England branch. Most of us are still employed which is a good thing.

I've bought a couple of things from Brass Trains but I agree it is a good time to backpedal on acquisitions. I still have a bunch of Rapido stuff to catch up with though I'm not sure I want to build catenary. Looks like a royal pain.

Hope you are all doing well. I will likely sneak through and get some groceries tonight but won't go in if there is a crowd. I agree, some people haven't gotten the distancing message. Hope you all stay well, knee gets better etc.  Ciao, J.R.

News of the bizarre?

Locomotive engineer in California runs his engine and x-number of cars through the end-of-track to draw attention to his claims of nefariousness regarding the USNS Mercy hospital ship?

Ruined a perfectly good locomotive! Got to admit, it has happened to me (in HO, though) Whistling

Well, there you go —

Welcome to Thursday! Or, as I call it, Friday. Tomorrow is my 55th Cake birthday , and I'm taking the day off. I'll still be monitoring the Forums, though, so be on your best behavior. In the meantime, though, we could all use some comfort food. So take your pick.

Good Afternoon!

A truly boring day! Nothing to do, nowhere to go to, just stay put and wait, wait, wait! It´s not only I who is getting edgy these days. I pity the parents with little children, being locked up in a high-rise apartment house, not being able to go outside! I also feel for all the elderly people who are effectively locked up, like in a prison, not being able to go for a little walk in the sunshine. I hope that theis madness ends soon!

Steven - mind if I have one of each? And two of the last item?

Here is how my southern German friend Gerd keeps himself busy:

Stay safe!

Happy times!

Happy birthday, Steven.  I was your age once.

It's gotten cold, cloudy, and they're predicting snow starting this afternoon.  It's not easy to take after several days of nice weather.

I'm waiting for some things to dry, and will then work on the layout again.  I've been watching ruruns of the TV show "Monk".  I didn't watch it when it was first run, but have now gotten to like it 10 years later.

Have a good day, everyone.

There is still a Beverage Castle on US 301 in Tampa. That is the only one I am 100% sure is still in operation.

Has been closed for quite some time now.

Happy B-Day Steven. A day early but I never know if I will get to the diner or not. That stew looks too good to pass up and the last two for later if you please.

Good thing that locomotive didn't have steering. As someone else said, the engine driver had a loco motive.....    J.R.

Ulrich, ...I can certainly relate to you.  Judy and I had quite the spat yesterday and the day before.  It was over nothing and short-lived.  We realized how ridiculous it was right away afterwards.  It is extremely rare for Judy and I to ever fight.

Neither one of us knew where this came from.

Two of the last item??  And I know that as well is extremely rare and so unlike you.  But in this day and age I can say I certainly understand.

Keep your chin up,  we will all have better days aheadYes

P.S.   Is that what they call snap track?  Steam Loco Layout in a box.  That's pretty neat!

That is a pretty amazing video.  I thought it was some kind of kit, but reading the comments, I found out that he made the entire setup after buying the steam locomotive.  I didn't know someone made such a tiny live steam model.  Very neat!

Only 5 of the OO9 scale live steam engines were built by the  British craftsman Brian Caton a few years ago. Gerd was lucky to be able to buy one, but it certainly didn´t come cheap.

TF - Fortunately, Petra and I didn´t have a fight, but we came close to it. She made a actually quite trivial remark about something absolutely unimportant and I just wnt off like a safety valve. Just made it around the bend before an argument could have been started. We have such a long bucket list to work down prior to any move, but we are just condemned to do nothing. I have so many things that are supposed to go to the dump, but that place is closed to the public right now. Going for a walk is a no no, with a $500 fine attached. We feel like being imprisoned.

With lots of time to waste, how´s that:

6 hours of good old Donald Duck! He is a bit like me!

Happy B-Day Steven! All the best wishes!

Happy birthday sir! I am only a couple-three years behind you.

It's gotten cold, cloudy, and they're predicting snow starting this afternoon. It's not easy to take after several days of nice weather.

We had a "Cold Front" go through last night, and the overnight temperature dipped into the 60s. We will only get up to the mid 80s today.

At least the front broke the heat wave we were having. We just had six days of record-breaking high temperatures.

Judy and I had quite the spat yesterday and the day before. It was over nothing and short-lived. We realized how ridiculous it was right away afterwards. It is extremely rare for Judy and I to ever fight.

Yesterday my wife stole an 18-city farm from me in a game of Carcasonne, and we did not get into a fight. That was right after she conquered me in a game of chess. If we can live through that peacefully I am sure all of us can do it!

Tinplate Toddler
We feel like being imprisoned.

This is nothing like being in prison. That point of view is similar to the people down here saying this is like going through a Hurricane... NO IT IS NOT! This is dream living compared to prison or a Hurricane.

Cheer up, spend time with your loved ones if you are fortunate enough to be "imprisoned" with your better half. I am, and we are loving it.

In the mid 1990s, my wife, three daughters, and I took a several week trip to Alaska and northern Canada.

We left Vancouver on a ship, got off at Skagway, Alaska, and rode the White Pass and Yukon railroad into British Columbia.  The train went further, but we got off at Frasier, BC, and took a bus to Whitehorse and eventually to Yukon City.

I don't have pictures, but I got this off a video we took.  Sorry for the quality, it's the best I can do.

We had just gotten off the cruise ship and were ready to board the White Pass.

Going for a walk is a no no, with a $500 fine attached.

That all sounds just terrible.  I hope there is a positive side of things like Petra's incredible cooking.  I gotta tell you, some of those meals and pastries you have talked about have made my mouth water from thousands of miles awayWink

I bet you two are getting everything that's not being used right now very well organized and labeled.  So many years ago,  the last time Judy and I moved we were in such a scrambled mess.  We didn't know what was what unpacking.

Ironically she pulled out boxes in the back of the closet from our last move yesterday.  Some of the stuff we had forgot about and it was like getting a Christmas present.  She is in her spring cleaning mode so a lot of it she threw away.

One of the things was my Greatland Express Train that runs around the Christmas tree that she wanted to add to the donation box.  That was one of the spats that was short livedWhistling

Not being able to go for a walk and a 500.00 fine sounds awfully harsh Ulrich.  We are lucky here, they are not enforcing most of the things on the shut down, especially travel restrictions.

The only thing they are starting to enforce which I seen yesterday on the nightly news.  Teenagers are ducking the roped off areas at parks.  They are playing basketball and other activities in groups.

It was said on the news last night they are going to start handing out $1,000 fines to the parents of the minor children.  For now I understand the police are just verbally breaking up the groups as a warning.  I would think the chance of getting a $1,000 fine may get the parents attention.

Locomotive engineer in California runs his engine and x-number of cars through the end-of-track to draw attention to his claims of nefariousness regarding the USNS Mercy hospital ship?

I saw that on the 5:00 AM early news this morning, and thought I was hearing things.

The report said the engineer drove his train off of the tracks and steered it towards the USS Mercy, and stopped only 250 yards from the ship.

I was thinking I must have misheard this... what kind of locomotive can be steered off of the track and driven towards a target?

Better news reports surfaced later that explained it a bit better.

Crazy.

I bet you two are getting everything that's not being used right now very well organized and labeled.

Actually, about half of our stuff is destined for the dump. We are getting rid of so many things that have not been touched for years, as moving them will cost a fortune and a half. Lots of books, which our library doesn´t want, clothing, and myriad of little things which should have been thrown away first place. We will also donate some of our furniture - providing someone wants and will pick it up. No, we are not victims of the tiny house craze which swept through the US and Europe, but it is sometimes cheaper to dispose of stuff and buy anew if the need arises.

Petra and I are pretty well seasoned movers. We have moved 7 times in our marriage, mainly due to my job taking me places. This time will be different, though (should we ever get to making that move to Denmark). My back won´t allow me to lift heavy things, so we will have to hire professional services for the job.

If we were 10 years younger, we would move to US and open a German food place. I bet this would be a winner!

Happy times!

This is nothing like being in prison.

German prisons are much different than yours. Single rooms, each room with TV, small groups eating together - more like a holiday camp. And they can go outside into the prison garden!

You Know, ... I just love my Judy to death.  But over three weeks together can become a little trying sometimes.

She has dragged me into her spring cleaning craze.  I have never realized how many clothes I have before now.  She's having me go through them.

keep pile, work pile, donate pile, throw away pile........  I have favorite work shirts that are not suitable for anybody to wear let alone me and I'm wondering why I kept themLaugh

I did two drawers so far and I'm taking a break.

Next I have to go through my good clothes drawer,  dress clothes.  I told her I only go in this drawer once a year.  She asked me why.  I told her because I'm not good, I don't like dress clothes.

If we were 10 years younger, we would move to US and open a German food place. I bet this would be a winner!

And I would eat there, if only occasionally as my diabetes allowed it.

The only German restaurant I ever ate at was in Huntsville, Alabama.  It may have been a carry-over from the German rocket scientists from WW2, who helped get the US rocket program going.  I tried speaking my limited high school German to the staff, but quickly realized that no one in the restaurant other than me spoke any German at all.  Good food and beer, though.
