Every year the article was the same: "This year we're making the food trays even harder to make into weapons."

Steven, I do some prison ministry, and we are reminded that when we hand out papers or booklets, all staples have to be removed.  Even staples can be used as weapons or as tools for tattoos.

EDIT; I see I got tops! Free hospital food for all!Laugh

Ugh... hospital food. Bad memories.

I was once hired by the publisher of a trade magazine about hospital food to replace two full-time and one part-time person. Me, alone, doing 2-1/2 people's jobs. I was doing the editorial and page design duties for three trade magazines, which put together came to 18 issues a year. The way I describe the company: Think of the three grossest kinds of food service -- airline food, hospital food, and prison food. We had a magazine for each of them. Yep, that's right, including prison food. You may wonder what there is to say about prison food to fill four issues a year. Once a year we would run an annual "new technology" roundup issue. Every year the article was the same: "This year we're making the food trays even harder to make into weapons." I lasted 7 months there, not due to the work load so much as having the worst boss in the world. When I left he had to hire two people to take my place.

Good morning.  Our brief pleasant weather spell has ended.  Even though it is 68° right now, we will be back into the more normal 90s with high humidity today.

I'll try to cut the grass again before it gets too hot.

Finally feeling a little better.  I may even feel good enough to get out of the Lazyboy and work on the layout a little.

Little Melancholy Tonight. Just a lot of unpleasnt things on my mind.

Whatever is bothering you, I hope you get some peace.  If you're like me, thinking and worrying about things is often worse than the reality.

Ulrich, happy anniversary.  Hope you and Petra can find some cool spot to celebrate.

Brent, sorry to hear your son is having such a hard time.  Hope the recovery is quick.

Ed, I like just about any drink with alcohol except Pina Coladas.  My daughters and sons-in-law are all wine experts, but I'm the lowbrow in my family.  Out of all the drinks, I'll enjoy my favorite -- ice cold Budweiser.  (You can try to insult me about Bud, but I've heard it all before and it's still what I like and want!!)

Hope all of you have a great Friday.  It's garbage day for us, too, so I got everything out to the curb.  I wish I could have put a lot more out there, but my wife won't let me.

Good Morning All,

Ulrich - Happy Anniversary to you and Petra. Hope the heat breaks for you soon. We had that in Wisconsin last weekend though it only hit 96F but really humid with the occasional windstorm/thunder and lightning. Here at home the hear index hit 137F Saturday and 131F Sunday. 70's and 80's now so pretty pleasent for summer.

Picking away at the back of the layout these last few days. I have elevated track on the perimeter ala the New Haven main line and carried it on to the back wall but without the stonework. I am now figuring out what I can do there and will likely incorporate rock formations between the levels. Pics if I remember to bring home the camera. Pics on line are easier now that we pulled all the ersatz programs off the desktop here at the shop. One decided I shouldn't download my own photos onto my own computer without setting up a pay account. The noive!

Well back to the shop and more fun and games. We're also doing a new roof and some improvments along with a large solar array so we'll have some benefit soon I hope.     Ciao, J.R.

Good Morning!

Flo, I need coffee in an IV bag, please! It was too hot to sleep last night. Yesterday was the hottest day ever since they started recording it! A town just a little south of us hit 110F! With private homes being not equipped with A/C, this temperature is murderous!

Today, Petra and I celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. Well, we won´t be celebrating it, as it is too hot. We will go out for dinner once it has cooled down some.

Going back into the fridge now, hoping to get some sleep!

Happy times!

Mr. B .... Thanks for the advice. We are thinking of wearing layers of clothes for the Cog Railway. ..... Another concern is driving time. Looks like narrow, hilly roads with slow speeds getting to Bretton Woods.

Good afternoon.

That was a good one Ed.  Pina coladas tapping a coconut tree.  Actually I don't think you're very far off.  I do believe rum is made out of coconut milk.  Maybe that's why the Pirates always drank itPirate

I don't think anyone would object if you started Weekend Photo Fun early Kevin.  Just more fun longer, that's all.  I always enjoy WPFYes

I hope your kid feels better Brent.  I don't ever remember any surgery recovery being smooth in the beginning.  I'm hopefull he improves and starts feeling better very soon.

PS.  Roger that Ed.  I didn't notice I said syrup instead of sap.  One needs the sap to make the syrup.  I will correct thatLaugh

Brent started Filosophy Friday on a Thursday, maybe I should have started Weekend Photo Fun! .

Go for it THE END IS NIGH!Laugh

Actually, the kid had surgery on Tuesday and is having a rough go of it. Feeding tube through his nose, three IVs, Oxygen in the "other" nose. His tongue is so swollen he can't swallow and has a suction tube in his mouth.

The care he is getting could not be better.

The helipad is right outside his window and I see the choppers coming in often and see the care people get with large teams out there waiting for them. Unlikely to cost them a dime for the care they get, I have to admit it brought a tear to my eye thinking we are doing something right as a society helping those who need it.

I just came home to look after things and will be going back with fresh clothes for the wife. There is a shower right there so she can freshen up.

The kids surgeon came in wearing a Deadpool 2 T-shirt and said he remembered seeing him in the movie. The kid gave him a thumbs up and it gave him a boost in his day.

A few more chores and then back to the hospital in Vancouver. Thank goodness for gas warning lights in cars, we are so tired I would have run out if not for the light.

All the best to all.

EDIT; I see I got tops! Free hospital food for all!Laugh

It takes many gallons of maple syrup fresh out of the tree to create a small amount as I'm sure you know.

Maple syrup fresh out of the tree?

Hey, can I find a coconut tree that gives Piña Coladas when I tap it?

I shouldn't eat corn tortillas either, or even corn on the cob.  High glycemic index and therefore bad for me.

I have the problem with forgetting the day of the week in retirement, too.  In the winter, I know what day it is by the happy hours and specials at local brewpubs, but it's in-season now and dinner specials are hard to come by.

LION like the burgers of him rare and on a plate. Him will only use a bun if the meat is over cooked, or is a brand that does not have enough fat in it. Then him builds a burger on a bun and slathers it with mayoinase.

Good morning.  Heavy clouds this morning.  It's only 67°.  Our average high for July is around 90°, but we have been in the low 80s all week.  August is our hottest month, so we need to enjoy this while we can.

Since coming down with whatever I've got, I have not been able to take the two mile walk each morning.  I miss it more than I thought I would.  It seemed to make the whole rest of the day better.  I guess if I don't get better soon, I will have to have a visit with the doctor.

It is difficult to have a desire to do much of anything when you don't feel well.  I really sympathize with some of you who have some chronic health conditions.

I just almost started WEEKEND PHOTO FUN, then I realized it is only Thursday. . Now I am very sad.

Kevin, that is one of the funniest things about retirement -- I no longer have any awareness of what day of the week it is.  Except for Sunday morning church, any day of the week is the same as any other day.  It's wonderful!

JR, Richard, and TF, thanks for the advice about the maple syrup.  I know it was a gift and came from Vermont, but I don't know the quality.  My wife is the maple syrup fan.  I'm not big on anything sweet except ice cream.  I'll tell her what you three suggest.

If you don't care how long it takes, then you should not have any problem.  It's when you need something taken care of right away that it gets aggravating.

My friend who is retired from BNSF came by yesterday.  He wants to go with me to see Big Boy when it comes through in about ten days.  After working all those years on the railroad, he hates trains, and he can't believe I would spend time making a model railroad.  I think that, secretly, he is pleased that so many people like something that he worked with for 40 years!

TF, my wife has three small crocks of maple syrup that have solidified in our refrigerator.  Do you know if it can be saved?

Good morning

I don't really know about that one.  It sounds like you may have some really good stuff.

It takes many gallons of maple [syrup] (correction) sap fresh out of the tree to create a small amount as I'm sure you know.  Usually it's thinner than the store-bought stuff.

I would think just heat it up on low heat in a small pan on the stove, pour it on and eat your waffle or pancake quickLaugh  you may need to add a little water, may not, that's the only thing I can think of.

Good Morning All,

Wow seven hours without a diner guest. We'll go under that way.

Just a coffee to go please Zoe.  If eating a burger w/o bun is awkward, what about a brat or hotdog?  We do have a place up the street (Burgeritoville) that does both in corn tortilla shells so you can still have the fixings - the lettuce tomato and onion are the only non dietary restricted items there - and the corn tortilla has to have fewer calories than a regular bun. Bang Head It's all just another joy of aging and still better than the alternative.

Way to hang in there Ken. I sympathize with your IRS/SSA issues.

For crystallized maple syrup, just put the container, top loose or off in warm water usually on the burner and it will reliquify. Just like honey.

Time to pick up tools. Cheers, J.R.

Good evening all. Just a quick note before bed.

Jimmy - I know how it goes with the asthma issues and w*^k... Yes, been there, done that. (And I dislike the t-shirt, but got stuck with it anyways!)

Because of that, I will say, from experience, that WalMart would be a very poor choice for employment. Yes, they pay well. But, it comes at a high price. I would not go back there as an employee if they paid $3000 per hour.

They are not asthma-employee friendly, at all.... Enough on that front. If you really want to know more on why I say this, pm me.

You will find something that will be what you need, it just might not come from where you expect it too... I never thought I would be a auto parts delivery driver, but it is turning out very well so far.

You may already know these tips, but, here are a couple...

My big tip, is to keep looking! You will find "the" job.

Also, make your resumè professional in appearance, and have the important stats stand out. Even if the experience is not huge, or absent, your resumè needs to stand out from the crowd. Most employers spend way less than 5 minutes on it before deciding if you will get called in for a interview or not.

When you get an interview, dress up! Your first impression is a very important point in getting considered for employment. While not turning all car-salesman pushy, you are selling yourself as a potential asset to their company, so do try your best to do just that.

One big thing in all of it, from application, through resumè, to interview, and beyond, is to be upfront and honest with them, not only on what you can (and can’t) do, but also on what you are looking for, and on how you might fit what they are looking for. Honesty is one thing that makes a huge impression, and can’t be easily faked.

I'm off to bed now, as I have to be up and ready for w*^k in the morning. Hope all are well, and all have a good night!

Hi Everyone,

Mr B: I understand your sentiment regarding burgers and buns; however, many people dont or can’t eat wheat, and a fork and knife is about their only option.  Also, most folks eat chop steak with fork and knife, and that’s just a glorified hamburger.  Some folks may use corn tortillas for buns.

Would talk more, but gotta go.

Less is more,...more or less!
