Good Morning All,

A regular and a toasted blueberry muffin slathered with butter please Zoe.

Back off the road for a week and then Tamworth N.H. with Mt Equinox the week after. Just real busy this year. Next two weekends I get to run my Lotus 18 so I'm happy with that. May do one more race weekend after Equinox if time and funds permit.

After taking out my swinging gate access to the layout I haven't made a final plan to fix it. I am leaning towards just making a lift out lightweight panel and the heck with it. Kit bashing a double track bridge is the second option but likely I will go the easy route.

Good to see Rob stop in. I can sympathize with the projects lying fallow thing due to w..k getting in the way.

Garry, Maine has lots of good stuff to see between Ghost Railroads and 2' gauge that still runs. Amtrak terminates their east coast stuff in Maine and there is the transport museum in Owls Head though that isn't big on railroad history. Have fun.

Busy finishing up stuff for the next few weeks out so back to the shop it is.

    Ciao,  J.R.

Ah, I have top. Put it on my (virtual) tab please ladies. Not sure what we have for Lion food to substitute for Wildebeast but we can rustle up something. If you put the buffet out again, please make sure you have some healthy fare for those of us with dietary restrictions. I am still on grass, dirt, rocks per docs orders.

Good morning.  Just coffee again this morning.

Have not accomplished much lately.  Have not even opened the new locomotive's box to look at it.

Keep cool, Ulrich.

Hope you have a good trip to Maine, Garry.  That is one of the few of the 50 states I have never visited.

J.R., too bad about the dietary restrictions.  I'm not sure I would want to hang around a breakfast buffet if I couldn't eat any of it.

Ken, good luck dealing with SS.  My experience is that they are incapable of doing anything quickly.

TF, my wife has three small crocks of maple syrup that have solidified in our refrigerator.  Do you know if it can be saved?

We are in the middle of an unusual July.  The past two days, our temperatures have topped out in the low 80s.  Sorry Ulrich.  This is unusual for us, but appreciated.

Have a good Wednesday!

Garry,

Have left you a PM about Maine---

Thanks for sending it. .... I wish I could open it and read it.

PM's ..... I rarely use this forum's messaging because it does not work as it should.

It says I have 1 new message ..... Must be the one from Herrinchoker. .... There is nothing I can click on to open it. .....

I have been a member of this forum for years, and the messaging feature has always failed to work as it should.

Got the Hay field ( front yard) mowed finally. I had not been able to mow it for almost 4 weeks. The 77 Snapper bowled right over it.

Speaking of the hay field, the grass outside of our diningroom window had gotten bery long and gone to seed. I like it like that, after all we are on the prairie.

But yesterday I noticed that our renter had come by and swatted down all of the grass. Sooner or later, he will bail it all up and eventually feed it to the cows of him.

Oh, to have a plate of blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup.....

At our house this morning we had waffles made with applesauce instead of oil, topped with fresh blueberries. Next time I will give you a call.

Thanks, but it's the flour used to make the pancakes or waffles that I shouldn't have.  Blueberries are fine for me and plentiful here.

I ended up needing a double dose of insulin last night because I ate a burger with a bun.  There is just something wrong with eating a burger with a knife and fork.

I wonder if it can be microwaved. That's what we have done with honey when it has crystallized.

I hear you.  That's what my oldest daughter does.  Drives me nuts.  Even worse is then she'll eat the bun on the side!

When I get a pm, I also get an email.

When I click on messages, it opens a new window with a list of my messages.  Exactly what to click on in that window is a bit of trial and error.  I usually include my email addy so we can just email back and forth.

Henry .... Thanks for commenting .... When i look at the list of messages, the new message is not there. (I still have a few old messages listed. They are old enough so I should delete all of them . )..... I do not want email notifications, and boxes pertaining to that in my sttings are blank.

My list of all messages still says I have one unread message at the top, but that message appears nowhere.

Hi Everyone,

Mr B: I understand your sentiment regarding burgers and buns; however, many people dont or can’t eat wheat, and a fork and knife is about their only option.  Also, most folks eat chop steak with fork and knife, and that’s just a glorified hamburger.  Some folks may use corn tortillas for buns.

Would talk more, but gotta go.

Good evening all. Just a quick note before bed.

Jimmy - I know how it goes with the asthma issues and w*^k... Yes, been there, done that. (And I dislike the t-shirt, but got stuck with it anyways!)

Because of that, I will say, from experience, that WalMart would be a very poor choice for employment. Yes, they pay well. But, it comes at a high price. I would not go back there as an employee if they paid $3000 per hour.

They are not asthma-employee friendly, at all.... Enough on that front. If you really want to know more on why I say this, pm me.

You will find something that will be what you need, it just might not come from where you expect it too... I never thought I would be a auto parts delivery driver, but it is turning out very well so far.

You may already know these tips, but, here are a couple...

My big tip, is to keep looking! You will find "the" job.

Also, make your resumè professional in appearance, and have the important stats stand out. Even if the experience is not huge, or absent, your resumè needs to stand out from the crowd. Most employers spend way less than 5 minutes on it before deciding if you will get called in for a interview or not.

When you get an interview, dress up! Your first impression is a very important point in getting considered for employment. While not turning all car-salesman pushy, you are selling yourself as a potential asset to their company, so do try your best to do just that.

One big thing in all of it, from application, through resumè, to interview, and beyond, is to be upfront and honest with them, not only on what you can (and can’t) do, but also on what you are looking for, and on how you might fit what they are looking for. Honesty is one thing that makes a huge impression, and can’t be easily faked.

I'm off to bed now, as I have to be up and ready for w*^k in the morning. Hope all are well, and all have a good night!

Good Morning All,

Wow seven hours without a diner guest. We'll go under that way.

Just a coffee to go please Zoe.  If eating a burger w/o bun is awkward, what about a brat or hotdog?  We do have a place up the street (Burgeritoville) that does both in corn tortilla shells so you can still have the fixings - the lettuce tomato and onion are the only non dietary restricted items there - and the corn tortilla has to have fewer calories than a regular bun. Bang Head It's all just another joy of aging and still better than the alternative.

Way to hang in there Ken. I sympathize with your IRS/SSA issues.

For crystallized maple syrup, just put the container, top loose or off in warm water usually on the burner and it will reliquify. Just like honey.

Time to pick up tools. Cheers, J.R.

TF, my wife has three small crocks of maple syrup that have solidified in our refrigerator.  Do you know if it can be saved?

Good morning

I don't really know about that one.  It sounds like you may have some really good stuff.

It takes many gallons of maple [syrup] (correction) sap fresh out of the tree to create a small amount as I'm sure you know.  Usually it's thinner than the store-bought stuff.

I would think just heat it up on low heat in a small pan on the stove, pour it on and eat your waffle or pancake quickLaugh  you may need to add a little water, may not, that's the only thing I can think of.

Good morning.  Heavy clouds this morning.  It's only 67°.  Our average high for July is around 90°, but we have been in the low 80s all week.  August is our hottest month, so we need to enjoy this while we can.

Since coming down with whatever I've got, I have not been able to take the two mile walk each morning.  I miss it more than I thought I would.  It seemed to make the whole rest of the day better.  I guess if I don't get better soon, I will have to have a visit with the doctor.

It is difficult to have a desire to do much of anything when you don't feel well.  I really sympathize with some of you who have some chronic health conditions.

Kevin, that is one of the funniest things about retirement -- I no longer have any awareness of what day of the week it is.  Except for Sunday morning church, any day of the week is the same as any other day.  It's wonderful!

JR, Richard, and TF, thanks for the advice about the maple syrup.  I know it was a gift and came from Vermont, but I don't know the quality.  My wife is the maple syrup fan.  I'm not big on anything sweet except ice cream.  I'll tell her what you three suggest.

If you don't care how long it takes, then you should not have any problem.  It's when you need something taken care of right away that it gets aggravating.

My friend who is retired from BNSF came by yesterday.  He wants to go with me to see Big Boy when it comes through in about ten days.  After working all those years on the railroad, he hates trains, and he can't believe I would spend time making a model railroad.  I think that, secretly, he is pleased that so many people like something that he worked with for 40 years!

LION like the burgers of him rare and on a plate. Him will only use a bun if the meat is over cooked, or is a brand that does not have enough fat in it. Then him builds a burger on a bun and slathers it with mayoinase.

I shouldn't eat corn tortillas either, or even corn on the cob.  High glycemic index and therefore bad for me.

I have the problem with forgetting the day of the week in retirement, too.  In the winter, I know what day it is by the happy hours and specials at local brewpubs, but it's in-season now and dinner specials are hard to come by.
