Took Sparkie The Rocket Dog to the Vet for his shots. It was not good news. Sparkie is a Miniatuer American Eskimo and should weight around 17 pounds. Last time he was at the Vet he was 18 pounds. He is down to 12.1 pounds! With all his fur he did not look like he was under weight to me? Vet told us it is close to his time even though he is not sick. Vet all so said a dog his age can start lossing weight for no reason. My self I am thinking the big C but the vet did not say that.
We got Sparkie from a American Eskimo rescue when he was 10 years old. He was dumped there because of poor health, ash pit X owners. Rescue spent $2500.00 in vet bills and in the all most 5 years we have had him about another $2000.00 in speical foods and meds. We have been blessed with many great dogs in our family! But Spakie has been the most loving dog we have ever had.
While he hated being at the Vet, he will love the out come! He gets way more food! We had not droped his rations from when it was a tad over weight at 19 pounds.
Only thing that put a warm feeling in my heart happened a grocery store. I was buying dinner and a young man looked at me funny? He asked me "What does you hat say?" I told him "XVIII Airborne". He thanked me for my services and offred his hand that I took. If only it was that way when I was young.

Brent, I looked at that photo of the 2-8-0 and I have a feeling it is far earlier than the '39 Royal Train judging by the headlight and the cylinders on both locos. I don't have access to a CP engine roster to look up the number but perhaps you do. CN and no problem.

I am very glad to read both of these.
You should always follow the manufacturer's recomendation for all fluid types and service intervals.
This should seem common sense, but for some reason too many people think that if a person who figured out how the jack up a truck told them to put ATF in their crankcase, it must be good advice.

Ulrich, in my previous life, I was so sleep deprived, I had a headache worse than my migraine headaches. Well actually my migraines were never that bad, but worse than my worst hangover headaches. I was so sleep deprived as an intern, I slept 26 hours straight.
Pain, especially neck and back pain is always worse at night and worse when you are under stress, which you are. Retirement improved mine 100%.
MR Working on my AMB caboose (Bear I will post pics) I need some KD washers. Of course, they can't be found. Drove to the LHS and they were closed today, open tomorrow.
Looking to buy some Starrett pin vise. They come in size ranges and they are marked, by letter: A, B, C, D. I asked a seller on Ebay, who showed 2 different sizes, but advertised them as "D" His response, yeah they are different sizes I dunno.

Machinery can be finicky and gets used to what you've been feeding it, especially for a long time.
To change things up this far down the road could be Risky Business. A completely different motor oil could have foreign additives that your engine may not like to well.
To put things in perspective. I have always kept up the fluid levels on my transmission but I've never did any of the scheduled maintenance as far as a flush and a fill. My drivetrain is old machinery. My brother-in-law said at this point just leave it alone. Maybe drain half the fluid and fill it but don't flush it. At this point the transmission is use to the build-up. To clear it all away may change things for the worse.

PS Change that motor oil when it's due but stick with the same...... I look at it this way. The motor oil is the lifeline of your truck. If I needed a blood transfusion and I am O positive, I would hate to have them put RH negative in me. I don't think I would run too long after that

My thread about MOW cars got moved as I was adding to it. .... It is now in the Prototype Information section. ... I saw Cody's good article in March MR about making a MOW car. The prototype converted old passneger cars for Maintenance of Way service. ..... I was wondering if it is correct to include the diaphragms.
I sort of answerred my own question.... Look at prototype photos to find out. I posted photos of a GN car and a CB&Q car with diaphragms removed.... Ed posted a photo of a PRR car that still has diaphragms, but they had deteriorated and were not functional.

Saturday I'm going to the JY hunting for an Explorer (GT40) intake for my truck, I'm also going to be getting a pair of GT40/GT40P heads for the truck but not this weekend.
I had the pleasure of discovering I have a leak in one of the tires on my truck so tomorrow I've gotta get that patched/plugged/whatever.
And Sunday I'm doing an oil change on old faithful, hopefully oil prices have gone down since last time.
TF, JR, I sent you guys an automotive question via PM.

Charlie, there were 2-8-0s used in pusher service from Field right through to the coast. The 2-8-2s and 2-10-2s came later along with the Selkirks.
Here are two 2-8-0s on the front of the 1939 Royal Train. I'll be able to hook right up to my Hudsons when I get them.

Ulrich.... I know this may sound kind of unusual. I get this insomnia thing all the time. Around 2:30-3:00 AM I'm wide awake. I have found out sometimes your stomach is upset and you don't even know it and it keeps you from sleeping. I keep some antacids on my nightstand and after I chew one or two, I do fall back to sleep. Most of the time.
Stress is another thing. I have heard from your thread the problem with your landlord and I gather you have some stress. When I'm stressed I sometimes count my breaths like sheep at 3:00 in the morning when I'm trying to fall back to sleep. Sometimes this works, sometimes it don't
It's a privilege getting older Ulrich, we have earned it. Some of the things that go with it are tough though.
Number one I am going to look for another bed, the one I have is too old. Number two I am going to try out one of those noise makers that has ocean waves and other relaxing sounds. Number three, ...there is no number three.

Well we just heard from the vet and Robbie's Cushings test came back negative! We just have to hope his liver enzymes continue on their current downward trend and will have to monitor that.
That CP accident was certainly tragic. It appears there was a brake problem as the train was stopped and then started rolling on its own. The grade there is 2.2% one of the steepest on a mainline anywhere.

Got a letter in today´s mail from the almighty authorities - my application for rent support has been accepted! While it does not solve the issue completely, it buys us some time to find a more appropriate accommodation somewhere in this country. I can now start to disassemble my Marklin layout and sell the track and switches, the catenary and all the rolling stock, except the loco Petra bought me for our 1st anniversary. That´s a keeper!
I doubt that the new place will be big enough to accommodate another layout. We are looking for a 1 bedroom apartment. We now have 2 bedrooms, with one uses as our main room, where we spend most of the day. Our current living room is hardly used at all, only when we entertain guests, which is maybe once a year? Why pay for an extra room we don´t use?
Well, I´ll be heading for the hay, trying to give sleep another go!

Brent .... I heard about the terrible CP accident in the Canadian Rockies. Sad to hear about deaths of three railroad employees. A train falling 60 meters off a bridge would be very destructive. I looked at some photos of it on the internet.

Charlie A pump doesn't sound like stable. I'm not up to speed on the cardiac assist devices, probably people go home with those, these days.
I noticed a steady stream of water into my toilet bowl. Went to Home Depot, put all new guts in the toilet. Now the stream is heavier than before.

A nasty north wind out there today.
Yesterday wasn't a good day here. We took in Robbie for a Cushings Disease test that took all day. Hopefully the results come back negative. Then I had a call for friend in Thief River Falls to say her husband had been taken to a hospital in Fargo and had 3 stents, a pacemaker and a pump 'installed'. He is resting and stable today but still not a good thing. To make matters worse she can't get to Fargo to be with him as there is a blizzard warning there today. They are like family to us and I call her 'Sis'. When people ask me about my sister, I ask them if they are enquiring about my real one or my biological one. I expect we will be heading down to TRF sometime soon as she has back problems right now. I may drive her to Fargo if she can't manage.

A pretty nasty accident at the Spiral Tunnels this week, three crew dead, two of them found in the Kicking Horse River.

I was watching Jason on Rapidos FB page and he mentioned the tooling for the Rapido Royal Hudson was about $150,000.00 U.S. Big bucks, I would like to know how many are being made, he did mention 3 to 6 thousand copies are the norm for engines. Jason said the Royal Hudson orders poured in at the last moment and it will be a hugely successful run. CNCharlie I am looking forward to the ten-wheelers and have decided I will get three. They were used as pushers in the Rockies and will fit in nicely pushing my Royal Hudsons over the pass. Not sure if it is allowed to post a link to FB pages, but there are some innovative techniques going on on some of them in all areas of the hobby. Ray congrats on dropping below the obese level. As you get closer to your goal you need to keep an eye on your protein levels as your body will start targeting your muscle as your fat stores disappear. I keep a store of almonds on hand for protein as I often will not be eating enough for the amount of working out I do. The first signs are muscle weakness, that is when I grab the bag of almonds. They are high in calories so not too many. Have to go to the daughter's school at 1500 hrs so best get movin. All the best to all.

Which is not really unprototypical! Just think of it - how many trains run on your favourite mainline these days, providing it is not the Northeastern corridor? How many run on a branch line?
I think MR should address the issue of having combined train and RC vehicles - what a chance to set a new trend!
I would be too easily attracted to running the machines and trucks, and I'm affraid the trains would sit!
I would build a complete construction scene! I could see it now, all the things I used to work on in my previous life, huge WWTF's, big factories, schools, hospitals, municipal complexes! WOW, I would have to remove the trains to make way for more building!

I fought a battle getting a couple of new chairs assembled. The old ones had to be replaced, as the mechanisms had worn out. Regardless of how much you pay and how much heavy duty they are, those dang chairs don´t last long. I have now bought a set without those height adjustable, swivelling things, hoping they will last a little longer.
Those tiny RC vehicles are amazing! I spent the entire morning looking for H2 videos, but did not find anything in English. Seems that this a German thing?
RC vehicles could add a whole new dimension to a layout and add a lot of "life" to operating it. I think it does require a new approach to layout planning to incorporate roads and industries being served by trucks. Could be fun!

A regular and a glazed donut please - to go. Figured out how to tie the yard to the back shop last night - moving turnouts back and forth until they lined up and had clear base under the switch bar so I can continue with the remote actuation even though the last set of ladders will be right on the edge of the layout.
Ulrich - I had no idea how small or sophisticaed the RC stuff had become. I wish I could work as fast as the forklift constructor though.
Ken, I understand all too well your predicament as my wife runs the office here and my oldest son is one of our mechanics. Time to toddle off and so some more with the trailer. Catch y'all later, J.R.
