NWP SWP
I got an Aloha Shirt yesterday and wore it to church with my sports coat, the Sunday School teachers just smiled when they saw me

How about a photo there McGarrett.Laugh I may need to get my own Aloha shirt as we are going into week II of beautiful weather.

Went and saw a beautiful piece of property today. 3.5 acres with a beautiful six stall barn and a nearly new 2400 sqft. shop. The house was nothing but lipstick so it was a quick pass. Looked good in the photos though.

Just got off the Deere and the Sun is headin West. I think a glass of wine is in order and I bet the wife and Daughter will want to go out for dinner.Dinner

Loved the Chicken video and I sent on the AC/DC knock off to my buddy and his wife that are die-hard AC/DC fans. First time I ever understood the lyrics.Laugh

Picked up the guitar this morning and could not bend my left pinky to hold down a string, Arthritis really sucks. I am going full circle from not being able to play the guitar as a young kid to not being able to play the guitar as an old man.Sad Those 50 plus guitar playing years sure went by fast. When I croak they can set me afloat and burn me with my guitars like a Viking. My Daughter plays the piano beautifully as well as the Cello and Clarinet and my Son is a wicked drummer. Neither took to the guitar.

The kid got first midterms back. Three 100%s on exam essays and two "A"s on test. His Mom is the super brain and that is where he gets it from. I was a solid "B" student but got top marks in P/E. I was not fond of school at all. I just remember reading through the textbook(s) and then sitting there for two weeks listening to the teacher explain about what I had read over a weekend. A snooze fest.

Well, the Vancouver Canucks dispatched the Tampa Bay Lightning and then the Florida Panthers, could life get more perfect. The kid wants me to make a hop to Ottawa when the Canucks play there and bring our Jerseys so I may do that. I find flying a little painful now with this Arthritis. Sitting upright for a long flight takes me two days to recover. I'll just go early and to kill time go see the Prime Minister and tell him to stop spending so much money.Laugh

Went to our second best train show yesterday. It had a good crowd. I guess someone does it for profit and I have to think they will be happy this year. Had some really good conversations with people and spent $2.00 on twenty newfangled weathering brushes. Last year I bought a new box of Walthers track for $30.00CA Went back to the same guy and he had another one but wanted 70.00 I said last year you charged me $30.00. He said, come back tomorrow.Laugh

Time to eat!

All the best to all.

Good morning Diners,

I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

And the Bear wins!!  At least for song #3.  And what is the prize?  It's the hearty handshake, the pat on the back, and the warm glow of victory!

I loved the video.  As an added bonus lurking in the background on tambourine was none other than David Crosby before CSN, which is a hint for song number 2. The keyboard player looks like Nicky Hopkins who later joined Quicksilver Messinger Service and did session work for the Stones.

Gotta go, but thanks Bear, that was a historical treat.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Good morning, Diners !

Jim: Where is everybody else?...... I'll have a coffee and a donut please.

Regarding our theme for the month, New England :

CN's US subsideraries were consoloidated into Grand Trunk Corporation ....

The three US railroads were Grand Trunk Western, Duluth Winnepeg & Pacific, and Central Vermont. In the 1970's they all shared the same paint sheme, but were lettered for each road. The paint scheme was like CN's except blue paint was used instead of black ...

Below is a CV unit leading some GTW units on the CV .

Note: later the CV changed colors to green with yellow markings, but still used the CV wet noodle for its logo.

Hi JaBear,

That old video left me with a great big grin on my face!! "I actually used to dress like that?!?" I don't mean the band, I mean the dudes in the audience with the checked pants and sideburns. I had a pair of bright red plaid pants (flares of course) and I had a bright red plaid jacket - not the same plaid. I thought that wearing them both at the same time was the coolest outfit going!!! I should have been selling used cars!Laugh

I recall the DW&P RS11's were involved in a three way trade. ... The RS11's were tranferred to CV... CV GP9's were transferred to GTW. ...GTW SD40's were moved to DW&P. .... It was done because SD40's were a better type of locomotive for use on the DW&P. It hauled trains from the CN connection in upper Minnesota to connecting railroads in Duluth.

Evening diners,

Good news!

Friday is an impromptu concert downtown Zachary, I'm planning to do at least 1 or 2 songs, Beyond the Sea, and maybe If You Could Read My Mind, that'd open up a spot at the art crawl for a newer song I'm wanting to do.

Yesterday I was supposed to meet Annalise to practice our duet, but she came down with a sinus infection so we'll try for Wednesday or later.

I'm getting tired so goodnight all!

I'll nudge the jukebox again.

I really enjoy all the music that gets posted up here, lyric challenges or not.

Good Afternoon,

Track Fiddler, further to Gary's note, the DW&P crossed into Canada at International Falls. From there the trains went west on the CN line through Rainy River, Ont. ( division point) then back across into Minnesota around the south end of Lake of the Woods and on to Winnipeg. When I lived in Rainy River back in the '60s and '70s, crews ran from there to Ft. Frances where the trains where picked up for the crossing into the U.S.  I too like the DW&P. I have an RS11 but mine is in the earlier green colour scheme. It is a very smooth running loco.

Well time to get going on  a few errands. Another cool day here, only about 35F.

I wonder if the DWP's I watched in the School Bus next to Highway 53 where the green ones. I don't remember. That was the late 70s early 80s. I think I remember seeing a lot of pulpwood cars that were green. I would see them up in International Falls. Train loads of pulpwood going to the paper mill, Boise Cascade. We would see the DWP's going into Canada too, I think I do recall seeing a lot of CN cars in those trains. Fort Frances we visited regularly to go to McDonald's, International Falls didn't have one back then.

I wonder if you know Charlie or if Garry does, what the years were, of the different color schemes.

It is a pretty day and I just did not feel like doing anything. Sigh I just don't get why some days I feel like doing things and other days you need a prybar to get me off the sofa?

Getting a price on replacing the roof Wednesday. I am guessing in the $12,000 range. Ick!

Track Fiddler, CN went from the green scheme to black with the 'noodle' in '61.  I don't know what happened after that as I model 1955.

Hope that helps.

Evenin' folks!

I had a post already to put up here around lunch time, pushed submit, and the little wheel went round and round and the diner was evidently off line or too busy, so I lost it....Sad

I got busy this morning and mowed the lawn wearing a flannel shirt and a jacket...  The temp out there this morning was all of 45°F.  The high got up to 50°F and it is now about 42°F outside....  Fall IS here, I guess.  I have decided I really need to trim the lower branches on the three trees I still have left on the property.  One should be taken down, but the tree guy never called me back and now I am completely tied up most all day, every day.  I did get my 10,000 steps in by early evening though.

Spent much of the afternoon trying to make sence of the NMRA membership files they send out every month.  This month I managed to get it done in only 5 hours from start to almost finished (3 of my members are not accounted for.  I have emailed the Region membership guy asking for an explaination.)  I HAVE to get a newsletter out and finish the program for the November Meet of the Division soon (like about a week ago!).

The good news today is that I weighed in this morning at 202lbs. right on the nose!  That means I have now lost 33 lbs. since last February when I really started keeping track, and 123 lbs. from what I weighed 20 years ago.  Yep!  I sure do feel better both physically and mentally at this point.  Want to lose another 17 or so more lbs. and then keep it off.

Man, Ken, how big is your house???  The metal roof on my house (which should last 50 to 75 years) only was $7,000.  I went with that so the solar panels won't have to be removed to replace the roof after about 25 years...  A 25 year asphalt shingle roof would have been about $4,000 from the same roofer (Top of the line, both materials and roofer).  You must be doing a bit more than just replacing the roof.......

Saw a woman, this weekend, who was a resident with me 40 years ago. She went to San Francisco to work.

Her husband owned a travel agency but Priceline killed the business. He decided to sponge off her for the next 20 yrs and took a line of credit on the house.

When they recently divorced she got very little money from what had to be a million dollar house.  She is going to declare bankruptcy because she has $70,000 credit card bill

She moved back east but has met very few people.  A 70 year old recent divorcee, with health issues, doesn’t have a lot of romantic prospects.

We only recently reconnected via Facebook after 30 years or so. I truly feel bad for her.

What were we telling Stephen about credit card debt?
