Evening Diners
Flo, the gang and I will a and give Rick and Steven what they like.
Today Before work I got a little done in the backyard, maily weed eating the hill around the in ground pool and it is a pain with the round soul shoes I have to wear.
Work was peacful which is not a good thing. I do wonder how much longer this company will stay a float. Thank Goodnes for SS, credit will go to heck but I will have the house.
Steven That is a coal car? Looked like a gondola to me. Did you happen to use any of the coal cars I sent? I hope so, that way I feel like you could use some of the junk I sent.
Trains are running Ok and I am beat so that's it folks.
Ken
I hate Rust
Ken, it's a high side gondola that were used for coal transport, no I didn't get a chance to use the stiff you sent on this project, I will be digging through it though to see if there's anything I can use on some of the cars.
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Good Evening!
At last, it rained today - precisely 5 minutes! Not enough to get us out of the forest fire warning zone., though!
I spent some quality time just playing with my trains, when all of a sudden one of my electrics (the blue one) kept derailing on the track leading to the engine house. The track was OK, as all my other engines passed through without any issue. It took me a while to find the reason - the loco had shed two of the four traction tires! Fixing that was a matter of a couple of minutes only. All I had to do is to unscrew the front coupler, lift out the truck frame and put the tires back onto the wheels. Maintenance of these old Marklin locos is really easy, everything just drops nicely into the appropriate place and is fastened with a screw. No snap fits or clip ons that might break off! Changing the motor brushes and lubricating the engine requires 2 minutes! Everything is big enough for me to still be able to handle - if things don´t get worse.
We already had our supper, but I am still hungry! How about a big TLC burger & fries, Zoe, and a to wash it down, please!
Have a good one, folks!
Happy times!

Afternoon Diners,
Steven- Why not model a coal train with 16-18 cars? It will have the same length of realism with two locomotives. More than 24 cars will require at least 4 to 5 locomotives to pull.
Ulrich- I like your passengers. How many package people is worth buying for a short layout like yours? Are you planning on adding some into your coaches?
I thought of it a lot. I realized it's a difficult question to answer. Adding people in coaches will provide realistic ridership than empty seats. If you're coaches are always being shunted into the yard to break up or connect cars their will also be people in those seats without leaving.
I only bought two so far, bus stop people and lovers from Woodland Scenics but I still plan on more.
I recently bought 2 undecorated Atlas early FMC single door boxcars. I decided it was time to start collecting some cars to bring my fictional railroad to life. If I couldn't fully build my G.N.O. Railway at least I have a few freight cars to believe to myself that my railway is real when modeling the real class I railroads.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
That was my eventual goal, a 40 car train with four on the lead and two pushers, but for now I'll just stick to turning a few out a month.

Have felt like ash pitt all day. When I woke up my blood surger was only 50 which is low for me. My morn has been 70 to 78. So I had a fair sizes breakfast of 2 eggs sunny side up, 4 1/2 stripes of bacon (wife cuts them in half) 2 good sizes sauages patty's and a slices of whole wheat toast. After that I was sleepy all day and did not feel like doing a thing. Took 2 naps yet?
Go to the VA Hospital Tuesday to see my normal Doctor. My main concern is not being able to have a good Downlaod! I take stool softers every day and a laxstive every week yet not much. Bet I have 3 pounds of ash in the old firebox.
Next concern will be my ulicer on the right great toe. Last week it was pretty much gone, not now. Hope to be buried with all of the OEM parts God gave me.
Not to worried about the A1C results. Think I will come in around 5.2 to 5.6. Here of late my meter says my 30 day avg is a 5.0.
Soldern Iron Question. How long does your solderning iron take to warm up? My old Radio Shack 45 watt iron take's 8 too 12 minutes. Sometimes I have to use my lighter on the tip to get it hot. I am thinking it is time for a new one.
BBQ is done, trains are running great so later. Ken

There was a big problem with blue herons up here in Minnesota.
The DNR didn't know what to do with it because they didn't have a clue on what was going on.
Their numbers were dropping rapidly for many years
This is one of those situations when I didn't have a problem with the government not figuring things out for a while.
I wouldn't have known what was going on either.
Apparently the raccoons were climbing up the trees and eating their eggs, so the herons reproduction cycle was not completing itself.
A simple fix of common sense.
The thing I have a problem with.
The DNR put aluminum metal around the bottoms of the trees the blue herons were nesting in.The raccoons couldn't climb up the trees and eat their eggs anymore and now the blue herons are bouncing back just fine.
Go figure
PS... This may sound a little weird but if you ever had one of these things crap on you, or even 10 foot near you I guarantee you, you would know it. I'm not going to elaborate on this.

Just out of curiosity, why are you checking your blood sugar? Are you diabetic? Type 1 or type 2? You have mentioned blood sugar in several (many?) posts.
If you have a blood sugar issue, I hope you are not trying to manage this by yourself. You need to be seeing a good endocrinologist.
The fact that you ate all that potentially artery hardening stuff does not mean that you blood sugar will get you to the correct b/g level. Carbohydrates raise your blood sugar, not protein. The wheat toast contained the most carbohydrate, probably 12 - 13 grams per slice. If you Google the carbohydrate content of all the other items I believe that you'll find that the carbohydrate content is very low, or in the case of the eggs, zero.
The rule of thumb that I was given is that 1 carb will raise blood sugar 3 points. But that is dependent on your weight. If you are overweight, 1 carb may only raise your blood sugar by half as much.
I am not expert on this topic, but I learn something new every week. I became an instant type 1 diabetic last October when I had my spleen, gall bladder, and pancreas removed. So I have to use two types of insulin, injected daily. And for some time trying to determine the insulin dosage was like trying to hit a moving target. I'm getting a little better at that now.
And, yes, that 50 number is low. I was told to get concerned if it dropped to 70. My target numbers are 120 during the day, and 150 before bed time. Blood sugar will drop overnight when the body "fasts". In my case it will sometimes drop 100 points. Are you checking prior to going to bed? If your b/s drops much lower than 50, you may find yourself not wakng up in the morning.
Concerning falling asleep, my opinion is that is because you had such a large meal.
Again, I don't claim to be an expert, and I certainly don't know your medical history. But I do think that you need a good endocrinologist.
Here endith the sermon. And I will go back to changing my blood glucose monitor sensor and otherwise minding my own business.
angelob6660Ulrich- I like your passengers. How many package people is worth buying for a short layout like yours? Are you planning on adding some into your coaches?
I bought 2 packages, one containing 3 pairs of figures, and one containg 6 individual figures. I guess I will add a few more, like worshippers heading towards the church, maybe a group of nuns, some passer-byes doing window shopping. I will also add two or three more road vehicles. This may sound a little too much, but the figures generate the "how cute" effect I need to get Petra´s approval for my purchases
The coaches will not see any passengers. Mind you, these are over 60 years old tinplate coaches that don´t have any interior detail.
On my Swiss narrow gauge layout, all my passenger cars had figures in them, but you´d hardly noticed them - even on close-up pictures.
Evening All! Flo, could I get a orange float with chocolate ice cream? It is entirely too hot here today! Thank you so much.
Hobby Front: Got the first piece of the layout moved it. (The corner section.) However, in the process, I discovered that I apparently mismeasured the wall. My original plan for the track is not going to work. The shop section is not going to fit where I thought it would. (I only have about 45" and I need quite a bit more.) I still think I have room for the car ferry section however. I will need to measure the section to see exactly how big it is. Depending on that, I might be able to build a new shop area without the turntable. In any event, it looks like I will building basically a new layout. Oh, well!
Here's some updates on my super gondola (I was going to say super gon but that just sounded wrong)
I changed the bottom plate to a full length plate and the side plates to black styrene they will get re-redone with thinner styrene so it's less noticeable.
I but the 6 wheel trucks on, I had to relocate the bolster location to accommodate the trucks, the car also rides about 1-2 mm higher so the couplers will probably need to be drop shank kds.
This is the working prototype so I'll be tinkering still.
as I was finishing up the work I knocked over a jar of testors styrene cement so now I need a new scale ruler because the glue "ate" it.
Anyways, I'll have a coffee milkshake.
I got my bank card in today!
I bought a green metal hard hat so as to prevent future damage to my cranium.
I'll post a picture of myself when I get it.
I have my 3rd party test Wednesday so if I pass by the end of the week I will have the big DeaL (get it DL)
Posting from a tablet is quite a challenge. (At least on mine.) I switched as the laptop was getting a little too hot for my liking. (The main fan doesn't completely work all the time and stuff gets hot even with two computer fans and a desk clip fan. When the computer isn't on, I use it to cool me down.)
NWP SWP as I was finishing up the work I knocked over a jar of testors styrene cement so now I need a new scale ruler because the glue "ate" it.
Might be a good idea to maybe invest in a metal one. Testors doesn't "eat" metal.
Met the grandchildren at Strasburg Pa. Beautiful Amish and Mennonite farms and a short but fun steam train ride. Their steam trains actually do some interchange work moving hoppers and lumber.
The PA RR museum is right across the street.
From a pure socialogic viewpoint (because we can't talk religion) how does this picture exist in 21st century America? I never cease to be amazed.
Fortunately the laundry is upwind from the steam engine. Here is one more.

Howdy all,
Been busy the past few weeks. Heading to Michigan tomorrow for a old radio show. ( and camping)
Big Daddy: Nice pictures. I am part of a Coleman lantern collectors group and we have some Amish in the group ( they use a lot of White Gas products in lieu of electrciity etc. ) in 2015 the convetion was hosted by one of the Amish guys in Ohio. Really nice fellow and family. He saw me at the recent convention in Alabama and he came over and shook my hand and asked how I was doing. He owns a fireplace and stove store in Ohio. They have had to relent and be able to use a cell phone or their businesses could not make it in this day and age. Still interesting areas to visit. He has been to all 26 years of conventions. ( Friends transport him to them)
Mornin' folks!

Just got home from a trip over to my favorite farm market. Been one of their customers for about 25 years now. Yep it is an Amish/Mennonite store. Today the 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son of the lady (who I remember as a 14 year old with braces way back when) waited on me. The 6 year old rang up my sale on the iPad copmputer they now use as a register..... The Mom told me last year they had to as old people my age still bring cash, but they were losing too many sales from the younger people who wanted to pay with a credit card or debit card....
While there are still many of their farms that still use actual Horse power to do work (I wish I had my camera with me the times I stopped and watched a farmer plowing with a team of 6 Percherons and a 3 bottom plow!) Both the farmer and the work horses seemed to really enjoying themselves! Most do have modern tractors and drive black vans. Horse and buggies are more kept for Sunday Morning go to Church and special occasions. My dad used to sell them liquid fertilizer for their crops way back and really enjoyed the people. They bought up some old worn out soiled farms around the Finger Lakes and have returned them to productive, rich soiled farms!
I am now starting to get frustrated..... I have been stuck at 214 lbs for almost 3 months now! A personal trainer over at the fieldhouse told me not to get discouraged as I am putting on a lot of muscle tissue which weighs more than fat. Guess that is why my waist has gotten smaller even though I am staying the same weight......?
Uh.... Ken, What you described doing last night is a major recipe for that Heart Attack you may have! Keep some small candies around to grab when your sugar gets too low.... And, as you were told, get thee to your doctor and talk about this problem! You don't need to be wolfing down fatty foods!!! You might be sure to make sure your life insurance payments are up to date as well if you are going to eat like that! I am a good one to talk as I used to look like this from doing exactly what you are doing...
Have a good one!

Good Morning/Evening!
Just stopping by to say hello.
I am not feeling well at all lately. Health issues and family issues make me slide into a deep crisis, for which I don´t see a way out. All I know is that my life cannot continue to be like this. This is not the place to discuss such matters, only that much - I cannot continue to pretend leading a happy life.
Ulrich, do get some help to sort out your family issues, and remember everyone's family has issues.
The amish picture is interesting, yesterday I saw a series of National Geographic about people who live "off the grid" but aren't those tin foil hat types.
Big Daddy, Strasburg Railroad is one of my favorite places. I live nearby and sometimes have business in the areas so I'll just sit and watch the trains. Also the Toy Train Museum and Choo Choo Barn near by. It is a great area. I live in Amish land so for us its more about dodging road apples! We even have buggy parking at the banks and Walmart!
We went 119 days without measurable rain at the airport, then BLAMMO! About 3:30 yesterday we saw the incoming haboob, took the obligatory photos, then went inside to wait for the winds to arrive. Arrive they did, gusting to over 60mph, and then came the rain (along with the winds). It dropped .75 to 1.00 inch of rain, depending where you were in about 30 minutes. It looked like the footage from tropical storms. It also dropped the temperature 25 degrees in the same time period. Then, right after 4:00 the power went out. Luckily the temperature had dropped from 100+ to 78, but the humitity had jumped to about 90%. The power company said it would be restored by 8:00, then by 11:00, then by 2:30, and we eventually got power at 3:20am. Of course, all of our flashlights were dead and our battery stock was dreadfully low. We didn't want to use our phone for light as we were trying to save as much battery as possible. Definitely a wild and crazy night. I just looked at the radar and there is another storm on its way.

That what coleman lanterns are for besides camping. Power outages.
ROR: The other thing you want to consider is adding a portable cell phone battery to your power outage kit. The more powerful ones can perform many charges before they have to be recharged. They are relatively inexpensive and are nice when outlets aren't available.
Hobby Front: I figured one area where my measurements were off. I neglected to account for the trim on the windows. (The window trim shortens the width by 2 inches.) It's not the Holy Grail for getting the shop tracks in, but it should let me get the car ferry section in place. However, it will involve some saws and a bit of rebuilding. The corner section will be reduced by 2 to 2 1\2 inches in width. I will also need to shorten the lake section to 5 feet to fit the hole I have. The yard design will end up changing a bit but as it's not laid down at all, it shouldn't be too hard to do that.

Good Afternoon,
Well today was a great day here. We took Robbie to the vet for the results of his biopsy and it came back negative for cancer!! Turns out he has benign nodules on his liver that can occur in older dogs. We will have to monitor them with ultrasound to make sure they don't turn nasty but for now all is good. What a relief.
I have been looking at my N scale layout and was thinking of selling off a Model Power Pacific because it can't pull 3 heavyweights up the grade. I did manage to come up with a short consist with express box cars that can make the grade so I will keep the loco. It is a very smooth running engine especially for N and I only paid $50 for it when Trainworld was doing a clearance some years ago. They are a lot more than that now.
A nice sunny day here. We have just been relaxing in the yard after the relief we felt after the vet visit. Pets really are like family and this one in some ways seems more so as he is amazingly smart. He knows at least 300 words. Heck, he knows the names of all 135 toys and is never wrong.
See you soon,
CN Charlie
Eveing Diners
Flo, the gang and I will have a pound of bacon and a give Ed a Crown Royal on the rocks and please and give Rick and Steven what they want.
Good and bad day.
Good
1 My A1C was 5.3!
2 I lost another 6 pounds, I now weight 259.4. I was at 350 at 1 point.
3 New Doctor and I like him and he was born in the USA and I can understand him!
4 He thinks cutting back on coffee will help clean out the old fire box. Not happy about that, but worth a shot.
Bad Ran over a bad road repair on the way home and car is now leaking gas!
Maxman I am type 2 and take my pills everyday. My Doctor all so thinks 50 is low, but I felt Ok till I ate. He said and I heard this before "If you feel Ok don't worry". I have all so been told the meters are only correct to 20% either way. Case in point my metter said my 30 day avg should be 6.3 on the day I took my A1C blood test that came back at 5.3?
Ray Remember my total Cholesterol was 131 and HDL was 55 and that was before I was put on a Statin for other reason. I am more worried about my cholesterol being to low now.
Ed I am pulling the B&O and PRR Pullman coaches you sent and they pull great! Have yet to try the C&N Yale car. I tried the PRR express reefer but it came uncoupled? Will check coupler height to the Bachmann car I was hooking it to.
I will have a lot of questions coming on the lighting. May bug you on the phone.
M1a is dragging 9 Heavy Weight Pullman cars and the Bessimer SD 7 is runing fine. If it was not for the leaking gas, today would have been a great day!
Later Ken
Howdy
We have been busy with company for a couple of days.... I hope to get back to normal by tomorrow.
Henry .... Thanks for posting the Strasburg photos. Nice !
CN Charlie ... I am glad to hear your dog does not have cancer.
Cheers !
Evening all! Ms. Flo, could I get an extra large apple pie milkshake? Forgot how to make it? Applesauce, cinnamon and vanilla frozen yogurt (should keep it a bit lighter tonight). Thank you so much.
Hobby Front: If everything goes right, Mom has consented to take me out to the ranch so that I can measure the lake section and see how much and where I will need to cut the lake section for it to fit in its new home. I just need to make sure i pack a tape measure. (Of course, I will have to be a beast of burden if there is anything she finds that needs to come into town.)
We also have found a vehicle that has the needed cargo space for the yard sections. (Eighty-two inches of space!) Hopefully, they get to come to town on Monday. We shall see.
Evening diners,
My car kit bash needs lower couplers.
I don't think my brother will be going to the MRR club anymore because all he does I'd complain on the way home.
Tomorrow I have my 3rd party driving test.
Well I'll be around.
