Besides it is no fun being nearly 1000 miles from the grandkids.

That's what keeps me from Prescott, where it doesn't get that hot, or Flagstaff, which would be ideal if I had any snow shovelling left in me.  I was only in Idaho once, Sun Valley, where my ex-wife cut off Arnold Schwarznegger in the lift line.

MR front:  still making sculptamold rock molds for my canyon and filling in various defects in my foam.  It's the kind of thing I really enjoy in the hobby.  I am creating something unique, I am learning a new technique and I am going to get to paint it to make it look even better.  The thickness definitely matters in the curing of the product.  I would love to hit it with the heat gun, but I am sure I would melt the underlying foam.

I passed the class! Got 93 for in class, and 90 on the road! I just have to schedule the 3rd party test!

.

I lived in Baton Rouge when I was in 9th grade. Back then you just had to be 15 and cast a shadow to get a license.

.

We moved back to Florida just a few weeks before by 15th birthday. I had to wait until I was 16 to get my license.

Sparkie The Rocket Dog Going to try some new med to help his joint pain. It has Glucosamine in it and our Vet seems to think it will be fine. Poor boy cannot get on the bed with out help. Real problem is him being blind. As soon as I touch him he jumps no matter which way he is facing! Today he did a back flip and hit the floor some what hard. Seemed fine but still breaks my heart.

I have nicked name him the Money Pitt. This year I have spent $603.00 on him so far and last year $1300.00. But how can you places a dollar worth on the Love a pet gives you!

Poor Boy has had a hard life! He was in two Resuces before we got him at age 10. But this is his forever home and family! Today at Petsmart I was told "The free dogs cost the most" and she is right. But they seem the most loving (not that my other dogs where not loving) and grateful for a family! In the 4 years he has been in his forever home I have spent $2900.00 on his health and speical food. While I wish I still had the $2900.00 he was worth every dime!

Ed Still let me know in a PM what I owe you for the passangers. Giving me your over flow is one thing, buy something for me is another matter.

Track Fiddler, I seem to get subscribed to threads randomly.  It's nothing I do.

Ken  I'm sure we have spent 1,000's of dollars on our two rescues.  Toby has inflammatory bowel disease and is on two different meds, both expensive.  OTOH he has never wrecked his car, and I didn't have to pay for his education at Tulane.

I was hoping to get a pic of this little guy sitting in the depression, but he took off.  I don't think he was more than 25 pounds

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, I just need a refill for my decaf please.

Steven, congrats on getting most everything done for the drivers license.  Back when I got my NYS one I signed up for my permit the day after my 16th. birthday.  I wanted to sign up for the drivers test while I was there but they gave me a crazy look and said, "You can't do that!"  Told me I couldn't sign up for the test for a minimum of 2 weeks.  Since I had been driving tractors since I was 4 years old and driving farm trucks on the road by our house since I was 7 (completely legal for a farm kid back then, the trucks had a special license plate) I already knew the laws, and could handle a vehicle better than most 40 year olds.  I went back in two weeks, got some rolling eye looks, signed up for the test, and took it and passed a few days later.  So by the time I had been 16 for 3 weeks I already had my drivers license......  Only problem was that I couldn't drive after dark until I turned 17.  That made dating an embarrasement because "Mom" had to drive me to and from..... So it was a good thing that I didn't really date much until my senior year...  LOL  I will tell you that I got my first kiss one week after I turned 17.... on a date with the girl I finally ended up marrying.  I turned 18 my first fall at college.  I was married and a Father at 19 as a sophmore in college.

Pets....  Yep they can be expensive!  I figured out the kitties and their problems cost me about $2,000 each year.  Blackie is diabetic and gets his insulin every morning, and Manét has had a variety of problems including being diabetic for a while, urinary tract problems, and now we think he has a Lymphoma on his neck.  But the love they give is worth every penny I spend on those guys!

Well!  Heh, heh, heh!!!   I broke thru a major barrier over at the fieldhouse this morning and walked....... 4 miles!  Yep 22 laps of the track!  I got walking and was feeling very tired (was up late last night for the Scout Training session at my house) but decided I was going to push myself anyway.  I did take 3 rest sessions, so I walked 8 laps, rested, then 6 laps, rested, then 5, short rest, and finished up with 3 more at the end.  22 laps is actually just under 4.1 mile.  I am feeling it tonight, but I won't be back over there until Monday, so Friday is the good day for new records....

I am trying to get everything ready to send the count in for the number of my NMRA Division Members going to a combined Divisions picnic next week.  19 people have signed up so far.  That is the most we have ever had for a summer event from my division.  I guess the fact it will be at one of the world's best modelers house is a good draw!  His layouts (two) are definately worth driving to Syracuse to see!

Oh, it got all the way up to 75°F here in the Finger Lakes Region today.  Currently 70°F and will drop to around 53° overnight.  I wouldn't live down South for any amount of money.  Nice to visit in the wintertime, But I will stay up North....

Have a good one!

Good evening Diners: Just a quick drop in with a request for help.

I've a passenger car I want to re-paint. To do so requires disassembly, and I've hit a snag. This model has Made in Germany on the bottom, but no manufacturer's name. It is lettered (see photo of side) for Santa Fe car name Pine Beach and #704. I have been able to remove one window glass segment, but the other won't budge. Ditto the interior detail casting - there seem to be no tabs or other disassembly aids. Suggestions welcome. I've had this for years and bought it second hand. The actual detail molded in the car is quite fine. Thanks.

Any helpful suggestions most welcome. I'll get back to swapping out Rapido-type couplers for MTs while I wait for those. Have a good evening...

Richard ... Wow! ... That is some dust storm. ....

Henry .... Your photo of 478 looks great.

Steven NWP SWP  ... Congratulations

on the drivng test scores.

Also Henry....Nice to see Bambi... We saw several of them this evening.

Ken .. Sorry to hear about Sparkie.

Ray .... Congrats on the 4 mile run.

Der John .... The passenger car looks like a fun project

Here is a shot of some of the scenery I have been working on.

Here is another photo of the Amtrak trip in CO. It is in Glenwood Canyon. Remarkably, they were able to fit an Interstate Highway in the canyon.

We saw several UP and BNSF freight train on the trip.... Here are two BNSF pusher locomotives. I did not get a picture of the front of the freight train.

Dave.  ... Thanks for commenting.  I was not necessarily trying to do Glenwood Canyon.  I was just making rocks out of foam insulation board and patching plaster .

Good morning Diners. Getting towards lunchtime in these parts, with the heat wave broken, and a nice breeze. A bacon sarnie and some tea would fit the bill.

Ulrich:
Spend an hour watching a trio of deer grazing on the meadow behind our house. What a serene and beautiful sight! If it weren´t for man, the world could be a beautiful place...
Much  as I’d like to share your liking for deer, I have to balance that with the fact they browsed the buds off our roses the other night! They do the same with the Hostas (but, strangely, didn’t last year. Those are just making buds now for this year, so we shall see)….

Thanks Ulrich  - it seems masking is my only solution – not that for which I’d hoped…

Agree 100%. Not just power tools; hand tools as well. When using Xuron rail cutters and cutting off that last 1/16" of rail . . . I've heard the little tiny pieces fly all the way across the room and ping on the far wall. Safety is no accident. Robert
…Exactly! I had a ½” piece do just that and stick into the wall on the other side of the room! Oops - Sign

Steven: Sorry to hear about your accident, here’s to a quick recovery.

Thanks Dave, and I did in effect do that by asking the same question in a couple of N Scale Modelers’ SIGs. Ulrich  however has pretty much put his finger on the situation, and I’m stuck with having to mask off everything carefully…

Good Evening!

Not much going on in here - I see chloe yawning and Vinnie snoozing in the back booth!

My missing order of figures finally arrived and my station is now populated. It was not easy to find figures that both match the period I am modelling (late 1960s) and the style of the layout. I feel lucky to have found them! Pictures will follow tomorrow!

I also received a new office chair - within 24 hrs. from ordering. It´s a cheap Chinese one ($ 50)but I sit a lot more comfortable on it than the previous one, which is stored in the attic now. "Bum & back" are much better supported on the new one! The only downside is that the new chair has a rather pungent smell. I feel ike sitting in a puddle of Diesel fuel! I hope this will air out soon.

Well, time to hit the hay!

CU tomorrow!

Happy times!

Good afternoon from a wet West Coast. Had a few thunder boomers last night which is rare for this part of the world. Also heavy rain all night long.

Got back from the big multi-family Canada day camping trip (5 nights) and it was cold this year, going to 0c most nights. Very unusual for this time of the year. Our camping location was at 1300 Metres according to the Satelite in the car. It is usually about 15c at night and up to 30c during the day, not this year. I was glad to get home as my old bones are not as rough and ready as they use to be.

I took a two week outward bound survival course in the mountains North of Whistler B.C. in February 40 plus years ago. No tent, just a sleeping bag, and minimal food stocks. Don't ever do that is my only advice.Laugh I would never survive if I had to do it now.

Steven, glad to hear of the progress with the DL. Sorry to hear of your injury. My brother in law was using a post pounder like the one in your photo and cut his thumb off at the hand. To this day he is not big on safety and I am quite surprised more bad things haven't happened to him. He also leaves the cover off his electrical panel and stores gas inside with no lid on the gas can.Sigh I just hope he doesn't get my Sister killed in the process.

I made a thread about my first brass loco. The detail on it blows me away, I hope I don't mess it up painting it. I will watch some videos and read lots before I pull out the airbrush.Hmm

Well, I think I'll go start washing the trailer in the rain. It got quite dirty this trip as there was a lot of road construction along the way. Really went through the propane keeping the trailer warm at night. We have two large bottles on the trailer and one will usually last two weeks running the fridge and stove, ad the furnace into the mix and it is almost empty after just five days.

The old Ford ran well pulling that thing. I am guessing the trailer was at about 6500lbs. We had some very long steep climbs over the passes and we started at a 100kph at the bottom and we're still doing a 100kph, 20 kms later, at the top of the climb. Those twin turbo's are loud when they kick in and you can watch the fuel gauge go down at a rapid rate. 7.3 ltr diesel, can't beat it.Yes

Got a big crowd in for dinner tonight so the wife is off buying something to cook up. I need to get my bottle of Rum out of the trailer as we are celebrating a friends birthday as well.

All the best to all.

Brent

Hello Gang,

It is a very hot day here at 91F with a humidex of 113!! Too hot for me. I don't know how people can live is the south. Thank goodness for AC.

Robbie is doing much better. He had a rough couple of days but seems more himself today. We won't get the biopsy results until Tuesday.

Steven, your driving license experiences remind me of mine. I got my license in a small town in NW Ontario in December 1963. There were no traffic lights and my parallel parking consisted of backing in behind the only car we could find that wasn't angle parked. The snowbanks meant no curbs to worry about. After the test the 'tester' asked me if I wanted a chauffeur's license as it was extra cost. I said sure so then I could drive 'for hire' at the ripe old age of 16.

I have some more work to do with it, strengthening the underframe, 6 axle trucks, cover (I know the prototype didn't have any but I'm putting one on it for now) and some details.

Now my biggest mistake was accidentally cutting the B ends off both cars so I have two brake wheels!Bang HeadSigh

But I'm going to make another "better" one to make molds from to make resin versions to make a unit train of the things.

Good Morning!

Early Sunday morning, a few minutes past 5am, and I am already up for quite some time! Now I need coffee in an IV bag and my big virtual Sunday breakfast of scrambled eggs, crisp fried bacon, buttered toat, jams, a glass of OJ, and not to forget the stack of hot cakes and maple syrup! That´ll be all, Janie, thank you!

Steven - congrats on the driver´s license. It´s the key to adulthood, which means not only freedom to move around, but responsibility and consideration! I bet you will hear that a number of times in the coming days!

I got my license in the Fall of 1973 and have clocked over 1 million miles since. I was car crazy in the beginning, but now I am happy when I don´t have to spend my precious time behind the wheel. Driving in Germany has turned into a nightmare with over 45 million cars for 82 million people in a country of the size of slightly less than Montana.

I´ll be quietly enjoying my breakfast while waiting for someone to show up for a chat!

TTFN!

Happy times!

Unfortunately Toronto has you beat Ulrich. Toronto has been awarded the dubious honour of having the worst commutes in the world. Housing prices in Toronto have left first time home buyers in the dust (let's not even talk about Vancouver). My son found an affordable home in Barrie 90 kms north. That left him with a one hour and fifteen minute commute each way, and he was still 45 km north of Toronto. And, he wasn't commuting during the peak rush hours! It's nuts! Thank goodness for reliable cars.
