Good Day Diners!  Very definitely “Salad Days” in these parts – which is good as we’re trying to incorporate 20cc of olive oil into our daily diet (another “Trust me I’m a doctor” tip) … but Ricky, thanks for the ribs. Very good ribs to be had at the Breakwater Café should you find yourselves in Pictou NS, BTW.  I’ll take CN Charlie’s TOP bill as he doesn’t need the hassle right now…
CN Charlie, good to hear from you again!  We lost our second  Rosie to cancer, so we join Trackfiddler in supporting you in this fight for Robbie
The Victoria Beach train sounds just the thing for a small sized layout.  My passenger consist currently is a GP 15 heading 2 or 3 lightweight coaches. There’s a RDC as a separate train. Train length governed also by station platform length which is constrained in its turn by the room available for passing sidings….

hate when that happens (more often for me it’s that I forget to save my text and open imgur to get a photo url without clicking “Open in new tab first Bang Head) and the text goes Poof! So now I’ve reverted to writing in WORD and then pasting the whole thing into the forum when I’m ready.

…it’s fascinating to me as an ex-Brit just how enamoured (“u” intentional LOL) folks south of our border are with the British monarchy, and the idea of monarchy  in general. (think Imperial margarine, for instance) Not quite sure why that is….
Maybe a metal washer will do the trick?
…or fibre, not sure quite why that works, since the extra thickness shortens the effective length of the screw, but it’s a treid and true fix according to the Tips and Tricks fraternity.

Layout Front: Station white stripes done, but the decal film is quite ancient and doesn’t stick well. So I’m going to have to Dull Coat to fix it. Touch up and trim paint is done, so just the station name signs to do after lunch. Dinner

Look! Here is the LION.

Look FAST, him is going on vacation tomorrow, and the first stop is Eau Clare Wisconsin, Him will visit Toy Train Show sponsored by Menards and MR. Hope to see some MRites there.

From there him will go to Duluth, I'll stay with the Benedictine Sisters there, and will visit rail, and ship museums, and also the Duluth Zoo which has an African Lion that I want to see.

I'll return along the northern border of North Dakota, and will spend a day at Lake Metigoshe.

Final stop on the way back to the Abbey will be at Cartwright ND where the Great Northern built a tunnel and drawbridge. Their plan was to relocate their mane lion to a more southernly route. Army Corps of Engineers had different plans, they flooded the Missiouri River to create Lake Sakakawea.

Oh Well...

Have Camera will Travel... Photos forthcoming when I return.

A very merry vacation time for our feline friend!

Spend an hour watching a trio of deer grazing on the meadow behind our house. What a serene and beautiful sight! If it weren´t for man, the world could be a beautiful place...

Happy times!

Afternoon diners,

Had my third day of driving today, different instructor today, she does not like teenagers, she had an attitude that would get most people thrown out of the car, I tried to be curteous in an effort to improve her mood, no luck, I will be complaining to the DMV, she was yelling every time I made a mistake even if it was a small one, which I understand her needing to correct my mistakes but yelling is not acceptable nor necessary.

Ya done good, kid!  Always remember: "Never argue with an idiot, people watching may not be able to tell the difference!"  And a line from an oft used dismissal in my church, "Return no one evil for evil."  Even be very nice when you complain to the DMV...  Do remember that she may just have been having a very bad day.  (especially having to deal with ........ Teenagers!!!!  Whistling LOL

I have been setting up the dining room/computer room here at my house for a Youth Protection Training session for the Pack and Troop leaders where I am commissioner.  Expecting about 7 people plus the trainer.  This is a new and different training than the one they were using and includes a lot of new appropriate information for the changes happening on Scouting.  I took it at the last District Roundtable, so I am just hosting it.  Got lots of snack stuff here for everyone too.

Hey Brother Big Cat, have a great vacation!  I look forward to the pics when you get back.

Have a good one out there!

Good afternoon ...

Lion ! .... Nice to see you ! .... Roar !

Steven NWP SWP ..... I think you handled that well. Don't let it bother you, and forget about it. ..... You have two ears for a good reason. You can let it in one ear and out the other !

Speaking of Colorado, a great train between Denver and Dallas was the Texas Zephyr.

Started shelabrating the schmaladay on toosday.  Had a 5th on the toid to shelabrate the 4th. (hic)

Evening diners.... I'll have two aspirin and a Coke please.

maxman I'm sure that one above was for me last night. I did bust a gut when I seen it. I had that one coming. As my dad used to say "If the shoe fits wear it".

Yeah you'll have to excuse me. I got a little out of the box. I don't know where that lovey-dovey crap comes from. It's better than getting mean I guess, but not much.

Painful day at the office. I was sweating bullets framing a deck. Those green treated timbers aren't getting any lighter as I'm getting older. It's hard enough work under normal circumstances.

Well... my way of humbly saying pardon me.

Thanks for listening...Track fiddler

Hey guys,

I am writing this from the local ER waiting room, I cut/hit my head digging a post hole, the bleeding has stopped so that's good.

We left the ER and now are at the after hours clinic, the wait here is still long but the wait at the ER was really long.

Hopefully I don't need stitches!

I will be complaining to the DMV,

That's the one thing you don't want to do, at least until you get your license.  I don't know how many instructors there are, but they will stick together.  So a complaint about one will potentially cause all of them to take offense.  And if that happens none of them will let any mistakes slide.

Can't quite figure out how you managed to do this.  Improper use of the post hole digger?  Operator error?

Yeah, I'm glad I got two other holes dug before it happened! So it was not a total waste.

Far as the DMV complaint, I don't plan to complain till I'm driving home with my license in my wallet.

Stephen I'm so sorry that happened to you. Sudden injuries are never expected and rather traumatic. The main thing is you are all right.

I got injured by a post hole auger once. It was bad. It was a two-man auger. We were digging holes for a fence. We were digging one of the holes near a tree. The auger caught a root and seized up quick. When that happen it smashed my hand against the tree. It was bad. Blood all over, broken bones in my hand, not a good day.... my hand has never been the same since but I make do.

I do have a worst story.  Way before that injury happened. (I've always been a little accident prone) for some reason.

We used to go to the baseball field behind the church and play ball. It didn't matter how many of us kids showed up, sometimes it was just 3 against 3.  I was bending over reaching for my glove by home plate. I will never forget the name.... Danny Gelikson swung a big wood bat at the same time. He smacked me in the head so hard I flew about 7 feet from what my friends told me.  He cracked my skull open. They had to pin my skull back together., I was in the hospital a long time.

Now get this.Zip it! a few years later. After my parents bought the resort in northern Minnesota.....   It was one of those stormy nights. The lake is big. When all the guests don't come in.  My dad goes out in the big boat, finds them and brings them in...... Tows them in if the waves are too high.

I will never forget this name either. Freddie Schultz. With the big fiberglass boat. I was winding it up in one of our boat lifts. (we didn't have ratchet checks then), we did later!!

It was a storm. A bolt of lightning came down and hit the metal roof on the boat shed. I did not get shocked but it freaked me out and I let go of the handle.  It back lashed and smacked my skull re-cracking apart the same injury from that ball field years ago. At that point my skull was shattered. I have a steel plate in my head now.

Steven stop, look, listen. Always be aware of your surroundings. It doesn't take much more than just being there. Wink

              Thanks  Track fiddler

Good morning, everybody ....

Speaking of injuries, make sure you use common sense while constructing your model railroad layouts. For instance. wear safety glasses when using tools.

I had a blade break off of a rail cutter that flew across the train room like a bullet. I'm glad it did not hit me, but it could have caused a bad eye injury if it went in that direction.

I'm still working on a scenery project. This includes my tunnel access. I'm not ready for more photos.

Agree 100%. Not just power tools; hand tools as well.

When using Xuron rail cutters and cutting off that last 1/16" of rail . . . I've heard the little tiny pieces fly all the way across the room and ping on the far wall.

Safety is no accident.

Good Afternoon!

We had a few moments of rain today - not enough to get us out of the forest fire warning, but enough to bring the temperature level back into my comfort zone.

I am still waiting for my last order of figures to be delivered. We are in the midst of rhe summer vacation season, which slows down the postal service to the speed of a snail. In normal months, orders are delivered within 48 hours, but during summer that figure reads 2 to 3 weeks.

Since a few days, I am rather sleepy. I had to take a morning nap, a mid-day nap and now I feel sleepy again. Maybe coffee in an IV bag does the trick and I manage to keep my eyes open. Zoe, shall we give it a try? Thank you, dear!

Have a good one!

Steven - here is to a speedy recovery. Next time, wear a hard hat!

That's funny Dave. I hope your calculations are correct. I hope even more I won't have to use any more.LaughLaugh

I finished framing the deck today. I don't like the pre-made stair stringers. They never end up right on the last step. That's what the customer wanted though, that's what they had delivered.

I pretty much work at a relaxed steady pace. If you try to work too fast that's when accidents happen.

PS.... Lion have fun in Duluth I sure know I did. Go to Sammy's Pizza there are three of them around town. Good stuff.

Dang, it is hot! Last night, at midnight, it was still 100 outside. That was after our first haboob of the year. (Woah, Vinnie, put me down... It means a wall-of-dust storm. See.. Haboob.) However we did cool all the way down to 92 overnight. (*Insert tongue-in-cheek emoticon here.*)

Right now it is 110 at 1:30 in the afternoon and we still have a couple of hours for it to keep rising. Our temperatures usually peak around 4:30 or 5:00. I am really getting tired of Arizona summers. This week, I returned from almost two weeks in eastern Idaho where the high for the entire time was 82 and the lows dropped into the 40s. We are seriously considering relocating north in the next couple of years. The heat and population growth in the Valley of the Sun is stifling. I recognize it is cold in the winter in Idaho, but you can put on additional layers. There are only so many layers you can take off before you get arrested (and sunburned in places that should never be sunburned.) Besides it is no fun being nearly 1000 miles from the grandkids.
