Yesterday´s mail saw the delivery of my order of figures which I thought had been lost! Now Talheim is not a ghost town any longer!
Semi-fast passenger service E 3188 to Schaffhausen (E stands for "Eilzug") is pulling into Talheim station, pulled by DB class 141 207-1, while the local freight train NG 8817 to Lörrach (NG stands for "Nahgüterzug"), headed by DB class 194 112-9 is waiting for some express freight to be loaded into the goods van.
Happy times!

Tinplate Toddler During summer weekends, it can take easily up to 45 minutes to cross our little town and that´s the whopping distance of 3kms!
OK Ulrich, you win hands down!!! Three kms in 45 minutes is pretty bad!
When we were travelling to our cottage in Northern Ontario we never had any of the traffic problems experienced by the daytime travellers. We would leave Bradford at about 3:00 am. There was nobody on the roads at that time of the morning except for a few truckers. The only minor traffic that we encountered was around Sudbury at about 6:00 am where we ran into a few early commuters on their way to work.
However, traffic wasn't the main reason why we started out so early in the morning. Our cottage was 24 kms from the marina (no road access) so unless you wanted to get pounded to death in high waves, you made sure to leave the dock as early in the morning as possible just after the gas pumps opened up for the day. The route took us across some pretty big water in northern Georgian Bay. On several occassions when we didn't start out early, we found ourselves looking up at the tops of the white caps on the waves and we had green water coming over the bow! Dianne hated those trips. The kids and I were grinning from ear to ear!! I think the boat trips to the cottage were the highlight of my year!
Too many memories!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Dave - there is time wasted more than the time spent waiting in a traffic jam or at an airport! I lost so much precious time of my life on both accounts than I dare to admit.
We live on one of the major holiday routes to the North Sea and Baltic Sea beaches. During summer weekends, it can take easily up to 45 minutes to cross our little town and that´s the whopping distance of 3kms! Each time there is a jam on the Autobahn to Hamburg, the recommended bypass route goes through our town, which just isn´t prepared for that amount of cars to pass through. Plans for a bypass to divert through traffic have been vetoed by local merchants for over 30 years now, as they fear loss of business. Utter nonsense, but it is comforting to find out that stupidity can be found all around the globe! So far, I had come to the conclusion that Germany is the capital of stupidity.
Pictures have flaws and defects such as mine.... it can't be helped
I'm sorry I'm just not buying your posts from your build of 9:22 PM sorry I'm just not feeling it.
Tinplate ToddlerIsn´t it the 6th worst city?
I could be wrong. Maybe I'm confusing the 'commuting times' with the amount of traffic on the major arteries. I believe we beat Los Angeles on that one not too long ago. I guess it's who you are asking.
Bottom line is that the money and time spent commuting is a waste. The Ontario government is doing a lot to try to mitigate the situation, but all I think they are going to do is change things from 'dead slow or stopped' to 'slow if you are lucky'.
The town we are in (Bradford West Guillimbury) is a real bottleneck, espescially on the weekends when all of the cottagers are trying to get to their paradises in the wilderness of Northern Ontario. On a Friday afternoon in the summer it can take 45 minutes to get from Newmarket to Bradford. That's only 14 kms. The poor cottagers have another two or three hours of traffic congestion ahead of them after that.
Bradford was promised a bypass 30 years ago! It hasn't happened. I doubt that it will get much better even if the bypass is built. The cost will be huge. The bypass has to cross about five km of pure bottomless swamp land.
Anyhow, it doesn't matter whether we are first or sixth. Driving anywhere in the area is becoming a major time consuming task. Moving to a year round cottage in Northern Ontario is becoming more attractive every day. There are communities like Elliott Lake that go out of their way to attract retirees. The only problem is the long winters. If you don't go south in the winter you could freeze to death
What exactly are you insinuating sir? I am missing the point of your comments, perhaps its me, I don't know. Please clarify so I know whether to be mad or not, just kidding, but still please clarify the meaning of your comments, PLEASE!
Are you trying to say I didn't actually build the car?
Or is it you don't think my model is accurate enough?
Or is it something else?
In light of your last post...
Are the photos too blurry? I will retake them in the sunlight tomorrow.
At this point I'm quite utterly confused, please explain more in depth, so I can stop scratching my head, perhaps it's too late at night.
P.S. track fiddler, thanks for the kind words of encouragement about life in general earlier.
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
All I got to say is the pictures of 9:22 p.m. do not fly with me
NWP SWP Who is selling what? Too of page, drinks are on me so everyone belly up to the bar, just stay away from whatever Track fiddler has been drinking, at least until he explains himself!

After looking over the calculations I think Dave's got everything right we're all good here.
hon30critterUnfortunately Toronto has you beat Ulrich. Toronto has been awarded the dubious honour of having the worst commutes in the world.

Sorry, I think I'm missing something. I'm not sure what someone is trying to sell you, and I don't get the 'K' responses. Can you elaborate?
Thanks,
I'm sorry sometimes I don't buy something someone is selling
Tinplate ToddlerDriving in Germany has turned into a nightmare with over 45 million cars for 82 million people in a country of the size of slightly less than Montana.
Unfortunately Toronto has you beat Ulrich. Toronto has been awarded the dubious honour of having the worst commutes in the world. Housing prices in Toronto have left first time home buyers in the dust (let's not even talk about Vancouver). My son found an affordable home in Barrie 90 kms north. That left him with a one hour and fifteen minute commute each way, and he was still 45 km north of Toronto. And, he wasn't commuting during the peak rush hours! It's nuts! Thank goodness for reliable cars.
Good Morning!
Early Sunday morning, a few minutes past 5am, and I am already up for quite some time! Now I need coffee in an IV bag and my big virtual Sunday breakfast of scrambled eggs, crisp fried bacon, buttered toat, jams, a glass of OJ, and not to forget the stack of hot cakes and maple syrup! That´ll be all, Janie, thank you!
Steven - congrats on the driver´s license. It´s the key to adulthood, which means not only freedom to move around, but responsibility and consideration! I bet you will hear that a number of times in the coming days!
I got my license in the Fall of 1973 and have clocked over 1 million miles since. I was car crazy in the beginning, but now I am happy when I don´t have to spend my precious time behind the wheel. Driving in Germany has turned into a nightmare with over 45 million cars for 82 million people in a country of the size of slightly less than Montana.
I´ll be quietly enjoying my breakfast while waiting for someone to show up for a chat!
TTFN!

I have some more work to do with it, strengthening the underframe, 6 axle trucks, cover (I know the prototype didn't have any but I'm putting one on it for now) and some details.
Now my biggest mistake was accidentally cutting the B ends off both cars so I have two brake wheels!
But I'm going to make another "better" one to make molds from to make resin versions to make a unit train of the things.
After much anticipation, procrastination, and concentration, I present the first ever groundbreaking, earthshaking featured presentation, my first KITBASH!
Steven congratulations, Getting your driver's license.

Flo, today is why God made Baliey and Hops! Give the gang and I a and give Rick and Steven what they like.
Work Front I had 6 customers and if all of them where added up they would be maybe worth 2 real people! Did not sell a dang thing! But the good news no one stayed for more that 10 mintues!
Any David Baldacci fans here? Finshied his lates Amos Decker book The Fallen and it a ****** book, my normal top rating is 5 stars. As much as I enjoy Clive Cussler Baldacci is a better pure writer.
Speaking of Clive Clusser I have justed started his newest Sam and Remi Fargo's Gary Ghost about a stolen 1904 Roll's Royes. It was stolen in 1904 to by they way.
Well today was not a total lost and the Trains are running great!
So Later, Ken

Hello Gang,
It is a very hot day here at 91F with a humidex of 113!! Too hot for me. I don't know how people can live is the south. Thank goodness for AC.
Robbie is doing much better. He had a rough couple of days but seems more himself today. We won't get the biopsy results until Tuesday.
Steven, your driving license experiences remind me of mine. I got my license in a small town in NW Ontario in December 1963. There were no traffic lights and my parallel parking consisted of backing in behind the only car we could find that wasn't angle parked. The snowbanks meant no curbs to worry about. After the test the 'tester' asked me if I wanted a chauffeur's license as it was extra cost. I said sure so then I could drive 'for hire' at the ripe old age of 16.
CN Charlie
Hey diners,
I started my first project!
I cut the cars, and I just got some styrene sheet to glue them together, I'll post photos of the progress.
Good afternoon from a wet West Coast. Had a few thunder boomers last night which is rare for this part of the world. Also heavy rain all night long.
Got back from the big multi-family Canada day camping trip (5 nights) and it was cold this year, going to 0c most nights. Very unusual for this time of the year. Our camping location was at 1300 Metres according to the Satelite in the car. It is usually about 15c at night and up to 30c during the day, not this year. I was glad to get home as my old bones are not as rough and ready as they use to be.
I took a two week outward bound survival course in the mountains North of Whistler B.C. in February 40 plus years ago. No tent, just a sleeping bag, and minimal food stocks. Don't ever do that is my only advice. I would never survive if I had to do it now.
Steven, glad to hear of the progress with the DL. Sorry to hear of your injury. My brother in law was using a post pounder like the one in your photo and cut his thumb off at the hand. To this day he is not big on safety and I am quite surprised more bad things haven't happened to him. He also leaves the cover off his electrical panel and stores gas inside with no lid on the gas can. I just hope he doesn't get my Sister killed in the process.
I made a thread about my first brass loco. The detail on it blows me away, I hope I don't mess it up painting it. I will watch some videos and read lots before I pull out the airbrush.
Well, I think I'll go start washing the trailer in the rain. It got quite dirty this trip as there was a lot of road construction along the way. Really went through the propane keeping the trailer warm at night. We have two large bottles on the trailer and one will usually last two weeks running the fridge and stove, ad the furnace into the mix and it is almost empty after just five days.
The old Ford ran well pulling that thing. I am guessing the trailer was at about 6500lbs. We had some very long steep climbs over the passes and we started at a 100kph at the bottom and we're still doing a 100kph, 20 kms later, at the top of the climb. Those twin turbo's are loud when they kick in and you can watch the fuel gauge go down at a rapid rate. 7.3 ltr diesel, can't beat it.
Got a big crowd in for dinner tonight so the wife is off buying something to cook up. I need to get my bottle of Rum out of the trailer as we are celebrating a friends birthday as well.
All the best to all.
Brent

Good Evening!
Not much going on in here - I see chloe yawning and Vinnie snoozing in the back booth!
My missing order of figures finally arrived and my station is now populated. It was not easy to find figures that both match the period I am modelling (late 1960s) and the style of the layout. I feel lucky to have found them! Pictures will follow tomorrow!
I also received a new office chair - within 24 hrs. from ordering. It´s a cheap Chinese one ($ 50)but I sit a lot more comfortable on it than the previous one, which is stored in the attic now. "Bum & back" are much better supported on the new one! The only downside is that the new chair has a rather pungent smell. I feel ike sitting in a puddle of Diesel fuel! I hope this will air out soon.
Well, time to hit the hay!
CU tomorrow!
Spend an hour watching a trio of deer grazing on the meadow behind our house. What a serene and beautiful sight! If it weren´t for man, the world could be a beautiful place...
John - your coach was made by Roewa, a long defunct German manufacturer, for MRC. It´s glued together, so you won´t be able to disassemble it further without destroying it.
Robert:
Agree 100%. Not just power tools; hand tools as well. When using Xuron rail cutters and cutting off that last 1/16" of rail . . . I've heard the little tiny pieces fly all the way across the room and ping on the far wall. Safety is no accident. Robert
Why don't you start your own thread about your passenger car project? Lots of people may miss it here in the diner, and it will be hard to follow the responses given that there will be lots of unrelated posts in between them. I'm sure there will be lots of interest.
Flanders and Swann, good grief!! That takes me back to when I was a very young cub, I’m not sure but I think that my Mum and Dad may have had one of their records that was played on the radiogram.

The joys of old age! Insomnia struck again last night, so I need coffee in an IV bag to get me going for the day! Add a breakfast bagel to my order, Chloe, please!
No plans for the day, oither than staying afloat!

Cheers, the Bear.
