Hello Folks from what we hope remains relatively poisonous-critter free northern Nova Scotia. (That said our friend a few miles away was bitten by a spider yesterday - doing better today)

Garry:
Does anybody have any model railroad progress to report ? ..
I’m sitting in front of a pile of dis-assembled passenger cars waiting for epoxy to cure on one truck to hold an extension for the coupler. Changing from the old horn/hook (or the N Scale equivalent which looks more like a tiny G clamp) to MTs resulted in this particular car’s couplers being under the car end – not good! I fixed one when I made the car a transition one so it would mate with my locos. (It's a combine so head end anyway) So now for the other end I’m mounting a “body mount” on a plastic sheet extension .Can’t actually do that until the epoxy sets. I did find my drills and taps, so I’ll be able to make a half decent job of the mount. I can’t just glue the coupler on as the rear of the pocket has to remain open for the free action of the coupler. So screwing it down is the best bet. I still haven’t been able to get the roof off that particular car. It’s a single casting with the windows with tabs slotted into the base of the car. Those tabs won’t release (yet!) I need to get the roof repainted, and it’s easier if the roof is off the car.

The passenger car interior which wouldn’t budge is now out! Turns out Ulrich that it wasn’t glued in after all. Once I’d been able to remove both end window glasses, the interior casting just fell out! I found this out because a coupler spring I was separating from two others with which it was “in a relationship”Mischief jumped free, and into that car. So I just tipped it out – and out came the insert too! So, I’m pleased, as I can now paint the thing a more realistic set of colours than the solid red it is presently.
I mixed up what I thought was a good colour to paint the trucks – but now I’m not convinced. What do these trucks need for colour? This looks just too grey somehow.

On the Domestic Front, had some good news yesterday as our SIL phoned to say that a long awaited settlement had been reached concerning a disability pension and he  would shortly be repaying funds he had borrowed. Right now that’s much appreciated at this end.

Afternoon Diners,

Steven- A better way to get girls is a stand by the traffic lights with a cardboard sign. All dressed up that reads Need a date. Way better than a business card.

Ed- How hard was it to notch out a MU port onto a locomotive? Is that photographer allowed to be on the switch tower stairway?

Garry- I also love to look at Amtrak.

I have seen coyotes here lately. They said they will attack you but I seen running away from me with my two dogs.

Today's weather, rain mostly all day with low of 70 degrees.

Good Sunday Morning, folks—

Heartland Division CB&Q
Does anybody have any model railroad progress to report ?

Hi, Garry

I have been working on detailing some locomotives and recently took a photo to show the little MU plug on the nose of this F3:

Here's a fellow with a camera on the stair landing of Maple Grove Tower:

I'm sure enjoying the photos of your trip. I enjoyed a California Zephyr ride back in 2003 and that sure was some fun!

Good morning .... I'll have coffee and a pecan roll please.

Steven NWP SWP .... I don't have much to suggest on that topic except..... Just be yourself and you will do very well.

Does anybody have any model railroad progress to report ? ..... I've been running trains. I still have one short section of track that gives me problems. Some (but not all ) of my passenger cars derail on it. I hestitate because the section of track is not at a location easy to reach.

More of the Amtrak trip....... On the eastbound train, we follow "Moon River". ... Yep, some of the knckleheads on the rafts actually do that crazy stuff.

True, true.

 Edit,

We don't have a piggy wiggly, perhaps whinn Dixie?Laugh

And I currently cannot afford a butler (wouldn't mind dating a girl whose family does!Whistling) so I guess that's out the window!Laugh

(You do realize I'm really not planning to make cards with my personal contact info on it to hand out to girls)

Guess I better get used to the whole flirting thing, when I go on American Idol, if I make it through a few rounds (I don't want to sound overconfident) I'm probably not going to be able to go in any grocery store or restaurant without being recognized, so I guess I better enjoy my mediocrity while it lasts!

Anyways while the subject is on the table I have finally decided (for real no stalling) to ask my friend Sarah if she'd like to go to a movie with me, no this isn't procrastination (a word that rhymes with "procrastination" ya know "con______") or analysis paralysis. I'm serious this time. (Seeing as how I'm running out of time before she goes to college)

I think I'm going to print up cards with my name and number to give to girls!

I may not be, how would you say, well versed on the subject, but I might re-think the idea of passing out cards with your contact info. You don't suppose the idea hints of "desperation"?

What's next, your name and photo on the bulletin board at the local Piggly-Wiggly with little tear-off strips with your phone number? That might just be sending the wrong signals.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visiting_card

Now, a business card with your lawn care information, sure, that's understandable— and if it were the 1890s, a calling card or visiting card would be fine, too. The butler would place it on a silver tray and take it to the young lady's mother for approval. Then the parent would send someone 'round to your house with their calling card along with a date and an arranged place to visit .

Just sayin'

Cheers, Ed

Evening diners,

Mowed the grass.

Did some driving.

When I went to Canes to get a drink (I only drink lemonade or water and Canes has the best lemonade in town) I am absolutely sure the girl at the widow was flirting with me, she didn't say anything "flirtatious" but I could tell the tone in her voice was that.

Same thing happened the other day I was in the truck and the girl remembered I was there the day before in another car.

I think I'm going to print up cards with my name and number to give to girls!Stick out tongue

Car trouble! The van is in the shop with transmission trouble, the supposedly "rebuilt" transmission doesn't go into 3rd gear, when it tries to the car jumps and surges and doesn't go forward. So we're down to the truck and Mitsubishi, both have no AC but the truck will by Monday a family friend will be fixing the AC.

 Eveing Diner?

Flo, wake up. I will have a cold Beer and if any one shows but the drinks on my tab.

Credit Karma Front. I need to stop looking at it, it is driving me nuts and it is not up to date! I am a head on a personal loan by two months but Credit Karma does not reflect that. Discover Card gave me a $1700.00 increase but Credit Karma does not reflect that. Guess what got me in this rant was Credit Karma gave me a 8 point hit where if the information was current it should have went up 21 points.

Bachmann Train Front. I opened up the Bachmann Pullman B&O Loch Ness Coach. While it's factory lighting is poor it is on all the time. So I was thinking this should be easy to add better lighting! Big Smile Got the roof off, but there is nothing but walls and no seats? It is not bulit like my other Bachmann Pullmann Coaches so I have not got it all apart yet. But why would you bulid a passanger coach with a light and there be nothing to see? Dunce

Bachmann Pullman B&O Loch Ness Coach. Looks great from the outside and has good details for being a Bachmann.

Weather Front Got caught in a Lightning Lightning and it was a down pour! I was soaked, even my underware was soaked! I was frezzing when I got to Shop and Save because of there AC. Good part it is now 70 outside and before the storm it was 95.

Trains are running great so later.

I don't purposely hunt them ( especially at night.... I like my sleep) but when they show up, I have to do something, or they will cause more trouble.

Sounds reasonable to me. I didn't realize that the rattle could be so loud!

Thanks for your responses Timmy. Very informative. Like I said, we here in Ontario are totally naive about the challenges that those of you in the southern USA face on a daily basis.

Cheers!!

Taste's like ..... chicken ? ? ?

My wife ordered alligator meat in a supposedly decent quality seafood restaurant in Toronto a few years ago. She might as well have ordered a pair of shoe soles to chew on! I tried one piece. I had to split it out. Their crab cakes tasted like congeiled wallpaper paste too.

I guess we should have paid more attention to the decor when we first walked in. On our way out we noticed that the dust on the decorations behind the reception desk was about 1/8" thick!

Bad night out!!

Feel like a Civil War Surgeon hacking off body parts of HO scale people. Neither the seats or HO scale people seem's right but what the heck

Ken:

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

I feel the same way, but I guess that making HO seats to accommodate HO people with all their extremities still attached is a bit of a challenge.

Don't worry, there's no blood being spilled (unless it's yours).

How do you come to find yourself hunting rattlesnakes at 3:00 am (please spare us an explanation of the attire!)? How did you know it was there?

The "rattle" Is a great way to find an angry snake. This last one rattled so loud that it woke me up, so I jumped out of bed, threw on my boot's , and grabbed the gun. It was about 100 feet from the bedroom window, and rattling like crazy !

I couldnt tell what had set it off ( probably one of the cat's had disturbed it and then ran off)

I don't purposely hunt them ( especially at night.... I like my sleep) but when they show up, I have to do something, or they will cause more trouble.

a side note: My wife has taken a tutorial on how to train our dog's to avoid snake's . It involves , among other thing's , getting the dog to recognise that the rattleing sound need's to be avoided. So she has made a "Rattle" out of snake tail's  Now, I ain't the smartest person on the planet, but even I know that a "Be-headed rattlesnake can still bite you, so I take great care when " dis-arming" the snake. I take no pleasure from this, and Getting the rattle for her is no "picknic either" But this last snake was quite large. they say ( just who are "they" anyway) that you can gauge a snake's age by the number of "Button's" on the rattle. This one was roughly 13 year's old.

Im no expert on the age Identifying thing, so if I'm wrong please fill me in.

( I dont mind being told I'm wrong, It's how I learn stuff .... just ask my wife !)

Howdy .

I'm almost done with the topic of snake's .

BigDaddy
Didn't know people hunted rattlesnakes at 3 am in their skivies.  Is there drinking involved?

No... no "booze" was involved ( I would probably shoot my foot off if it was...)

Flo.... could you get the gang a round of Chicken wing's  please ? ( gotta get the "snake flavor" out of my subject matter...)

Dave, sorry to hear about your eldest son.

I did better today, on the way home things got a little interesting, I was in "old blue" the 93 F-series, well I was at a light and the guy in front of me sat halfway through the green and went right before yellow, I followed through and made a left but halfway through the intersection the light turned red.

Then this nut in a new gmc truck pulled way up in the lane next to me (I was stopped at the right distance) he was almost out in the intersection, then he went to go before the light turned green, then it does and he floored it way ahead of me, at least the lanes merged so I didn't wind up next to him again.

Then I was rolling along and I was coming to a intersection between a side street and the main highway, there was a small SUV sitting in a turning lane to go left onto teh side road and a sedan on the side road at a stop sign trying to make a left, the sedan turns right in front of me onto the highway then makes a uturn right behind the SUV coming to a crawl all the while hanging out in the lane I was in, I slowed down and tooted the horn a little to let them know that they messed up and almost got into a accident.

Then on the rural highway by my house another gmc truck passed me.

And finally there was a log truck on my tail so I had to go up past my street and turn around at the end of the highway which wasn't too far only about a quarter mile or so.

Well I'll be back later.

I'm doing well but my left turns are quite atrocious, it's mostly when I'm on a major highway or thoroughfare with traffic following close behind I tend to take the turn (when clear to do so) with more speed than necessary.

Being nervous is perfectly reasonable when you are first learning to drive. Heck, if you weren't nervous I'd be concerned.

Try not to get 'pushed' by traffic behind you. That is easier said than done when some idiot is climbing up your butt. Just remember to signal well in advance, reduce speed gradually, and look for things like pedestrians, especially at night! I hate people who wait until they are already in the turn lane to put on their signals! It's like they are saying "see - I'm proving that I'm going to turn" after they have already moved into the lane.

Whatever you do Steven, don't follow in my eldest son's footsteps. He got a little too cocky with his new car and it cost him his life.

Good Afternoon,

Track Fiddler, you mentioned you grew up near 'the Falls'.  I spent my high school years in Rainy River just across the river from Baudette and then a few years later in the mid '70s helping my parents get rid of their businesses. They had a hardware store there and in Atikokan.

The only snakes we have here are garter snakes. No scorpions or other poisonous critters.  The only possibly dangerous animal here would be black bear and only if you get near a cub or it is cornered otherwise they just run off. There were quite a few of them around the garbage dump when I lived in Rainy River.

I prefer to use this to eradicate any and all house pests.

I don´t know whether to eradicate all house pests by eradicating the house is a wise move ...

We had a bat in our apartment a few years ago. It came through the opened bathroom window, landed on the towel rack and started to make itself at home there. Actually quite cute! We left the window open and after an hour or so - after it had turned dark - it was gone!

The Vierlings-Flak would leave the bat unharmed, but the house a wreck Smile, Wink & Grin

Yes. If I ever had a bat in my house, that is what I would want to deal with the issue. I cannot even imagine a bat inside.
