BATMAN
And on Saturday night that makes for a really good menu at our house at dinner time while we all watch hockey.

Amen to that, my friend!

Good morning from a very cool West Coast. It is 15c with a high O/C.

Steven Otte thankyou for reaffirming the obvious. I came in happy yesterday and did not stay.

Jimmy, I hope dealing with your Dads estate is not an arduous one. I am executor for quite a few people and it has been an educational experience I'll tell ya. The bloodsuckers really can show up fast. I had one group so bad, I turned the whole thing over to a lawyer and the courts and the greedy beneficiaries lost half the estate to legal fees. When my Mom died my sister and I had it all wrapped up in no time with no issues between us at all.

I am the executor of a 97-year-old American lady that has lived in Canada for the last fifty years. I will have to have legal help in dealing with that one as I bet both the Canadian and American Governments will want a chunk of her estate. I know what to expect from the Canadian Government and they will be wanting very little, however, I have no experience with U.S. estate law. I already have people in place to help when the time comes.

I won a brass Great Northern 4-6-2 in an auction for $36.00 and apparently, it has arrived at the Post Office. I figure it will be my first experience at painting a brass engine. Great Northern operated North of the border and so it should be fine on my layout. The story will be that Great Northern contracted out emergency repair work to the C.P.R. and that is why it is in the C.P. yard at the roundhouse.Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken, give your daughter a big hug and thank you from me for her kindness. You obviously did a good job bringing her up. My son gave I think it was $80.00 in food vouchers to some new Canadians on a layover at Toronto International airport. He said they were obviously on a budget and they were really grateful. He talked to them for quite a while and found their story quite enlightening.

Starting to get ready for the Big Canada Day five night camping trip next week. We have a big group going this year and those are always fun. We have 20 to 30 around the campfire and read really scary stories from the really scary storybook for campers.Laugh There is no phone, power or internet service unless you want to drive a long way. People actually spend the whole time doing things together. We have had some friends that say they really want to be part of it until they learn there is no internet. Their loss as far as I am concerned, they are going to miss a whole lot of guitar playing and singing.

Mr. B, I am glad to see you out and about again. I consider you one of the old-timers around here and wonder where you have gotten to when you disappear for a while.

Big Daddy, I really enjoyed your video of the Hillbillies. I watched the whole thing and it sure took me back, it was a favourite in the sixties.

There is a bit of a hiatus in the film industry that happens every June so the kid has his feet up for a well-deserved rest, though a casting director was talking to him several times yesterday. He did well in the screen test and the part he had likely landed for a movie in August was pushed back to the fall so now he can't do it as he will be in Ottawa at school. We were at a big family wedding and lots of people were telling him they saw him in Deadpool, it was quite funny to watch.

He picks his course load next weekend for school and he is more determined than ever to steer away from international public service after having a taste of dealing with the politics of it all. It is too bad as he is a very capable kid. Digital/entertainment law is his new direction. He will do well in it.

Well, I have a pile of dirt to move, about three yards worth so that is the job of the day. Ken dinner for you and the Mrs. is on me tonight with a Limo ride home to boot, so drink up and enjoy.

All the best to all.

Good day diners,

Worked half a day today, there weren't any maintenance requests and I had finished everything else earlier this week, so my dad told me to go ahead and punch out for the day.

I've got some yard work to do so I'll be keeping busy.

Well, Ulrich ..... I myself had no problems at all with your post, but it was followed by comments which digressed into the topic of immigration. .... I am still sorry to hear from you about the attempted theft and your health problems . .... I'm sure all the Diners think of you as a very good friend, and we don't want to hurt your feelings. ... However, it pertained to a topic which is not allowed by Kalmbach forum rules.

That´s not quite correct, Garry. My post did not at all pertain the topic which you have in mind. It  concerned the freedom of travel within the European Union.

Anyhow, this place has changed so much in recent years , but not to the better. Maybe that´s the reason why so many of our long time friends have decided to stay away, a decision which I fully understand, given the current moderation.

Happy times!

Evenin' folks!

Been getting a lot of stuff done today, like mowing the lawn, weeding and watering garden (had my first two radishes tonight in a salad...), putting up a bird feeder my son in England sent me for Father's Day), and taking some old electrical powered stuff (a pair of old HEPA filters, a worn out sump pump, the ampliferier camp staff destroyed a couple years ago, and my old B&D Battery Electric Lawn Mower) to a recycling place here in town.  Oh, and figuring out how to best handle and calm down some folks on the committee of one of my Scout Units that appears to be self destructing at the moment....  Seems everyone hates everyone else..........  Too many bosses and not enough workers, I would say.  Kinda reminds me of the old Joey Chittwood Thrill Show routine where half way through the show a tiny clown car arrives with about 8 clowns inside.  They get out (and out, and out) and then start pointing to parts of the car.  The announcer says, "What's that?  Oh the Starter don't Start, the Lights don't light, the carburator doesn't carb, and the piston's......  Oh, they don't work either!"

Ken, your daughter sounds like a wonderful lady!  A good reflection on you and yours!

Hmmmm, Steven, good luck on the "Date"...  I am trying the same technique on a couple different ladies I wouldn't mind linking up with myself... Smile, Wink & Grin

No work again today on the layout.......  I do have to clean house before I spend any more time down there.....  LOL

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.  And a bottle of Crown Royal to Ken for raising his kid(s) to turn out so well.

Work front:  things are going well.  I've an opportunity improve our warehouse and assembly stations (assembling kitchen cabinets).  I have the Power Point done and the budget worked out.  I will get to present the idea to management, maybe in a week or so.  Don't know on that one.  Anyway, the project has been fun.  I'll let you know how things turn out.

Ken:  your daughter went above and beyond to help that lady.  Kudos to her!

Garry:  I like the pic of the Burlington Mountain.  Their 2-10-4s were one of my favorites.  The 4-8-2 looks similar.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Good evening everybody ...

Steven NWP SWP ..... I would not call it a temper flare up..... If anything everybody agreed. However, it pertained to a topic which is not allowed by Kalmbach forum rules. .... I could see the conversation was digressing and tried to warn our firends here to be careful. After Steve O cleaned everything up, I removed those comments to warn people with an edit. .... I think it is best of we drop the the topic altogether.... I may delete this explanation after a while..

Ken .... Your daughter must be a very generous and kind person. Good for her.

FRRY .... Good luck moving your layout.

Evening All! As I type this, I have an actual pizza. I got hungry and ordered online.

Hobby Front: Approximately a day and half until step 1 of getting the layout taken apart and moved. There are a few pieces that I have to do some assembly before they can be packed. (The newest pieces were stopped in the middle of construction. I still need to drill the holes in all the frames and the legs and trim the top on one of the sections. Somehow, my measurements were off and the top didn't fit quite right.) The current plan is to move the pieces that came home on Saturday and move the pieces going to storage on Sunday. (We shall see what Mom wnats to move as well.) I am hoping that I can get the layout up and running in maybe a month or so. (Considering I don't know the last time I actually ran a train on it, that would be an accomplishment. Big Smile)

Back to my pizza.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, the gang and I will have a Beer please and give Rick and Steven what they like.

Spent sometime with my daughter today. Had a pleasent chat with her. Seems we did something right, she turned out pretty good! I found out one of the ladys she works with at the bank is from Mexico. (yes she has a green card) This young lady found out her father was dying and he was still in Mexico and did not have the funds to go be with him. My daughter gave her one of her credit cards so she and her sister could be with him before he passed! Airfare was $1400.00 round trip.

This was in Dec 2017 and the young lady only owes my daughter $700.00. Reason she and her sister did not have the needed funds? Seems Lawyers cost a lot when you are trying to be a US Citizen. She will be a US Citizen this year she hopes.

Train Front Adjusted the Mighty CB&Q F7's sound level so I can hear them with the A/C going.

Ulrich I don't think your post was a problem excpet the symobles for words we cannot say. But I did not proof read your post after Steve O dropped by.

Steven O Hope I have not stepped on any toes about my daughers good deed.

Evenin' folks,

Looks like we went too long without a temper flareup, I can sympathize with both sides, Ulrich was merely stating a fact about the UK, but that could be taken the wrong way and cause a bigger issue.

Anyways, I've been workin' changed 98 light bulbs today from Incandescents and CFLs to LEDs, there's a possible gas leak at Hotel B one of the water heaters is not operating and the other is at 1/4 operation, had to change batteries in a few doors at Hotel A, changed the batteries in two emergency lights. Tomorrow I have to call the pool place to find out why the pump at Hotel A is making a low pitched whining sound, it definitely isn't normal I know what it should sound like.

Well I'll be back later, everybody cool down and have a round of what you like on me, I'll have an Arnold Palmer, on the rocks, shaken not stirred.LaughSmile, Wink & Grin

We haven't heard from our friend Galaxy in a while and YGW in ages.

I did not have to buy new shutters, this time.  When they blow off in windstorms and hit the sidewalk, they break.  I drilled out the holes with a masonary bit.  Some of the holes are now too big, I got out the railroad caulk for those.

I'd like to get rid of all the shutters but I'm not sure what will clean liquid nails off brick.  For now the shutters hide the liquid nails.

Watched them paint 2 boxcars on the Chama webcam Tuesday, yesterday they seemed to be rebuilding two more.

Good evening all.

Brunhilda- A RBF please. Thanks.

Mr. B - Hope a quick recovery.

Ulrich - Hope you are ok, and a speedy recovery as well.

Garry - No, nobody ever derails their trains... Whistling

Ken - There is a mattress (and furniture) store in my area hiring, at "$25.00 an hour." Confused Sure they are. And I'm selling the Golden Gate Bridge to the highest bidder. Bidding is currently sitting at 2.2 million dollars. Do I hear 2.3 million? Laugh

Jimmy - Hope you are doing ok.

Steven NWP - Glad the job is going well.

Interesting tool tidbit - Lowe's in my area is now selling Craftsman tools.... Hmm.

Weather - Damp today, but supposed to be nice until the weekend now.

W*^k - Got a surprise call today from a store owner of the company I used to w*^k for, (not the owner I was with, but one nearby), he lost all but one of his salespeople over the last 2 months, and was wondering if I would be interested in going there. (He got my number from the district manager we were with.) I told him I would have to think about it, because he offered me a spot immediately, at higher pay than I am now getting. (I guess my old DM talked well about me to him.)

My current boss is a nice guy, and I am learning a dept I hadn't known before. But, the pay difference might make the diffeence here.

Although, if the hours that this other guy said were correct, it might be a wash.

So, I am considering a change, but am not yet sure it will be worth it.

House remodel - Foundation work right now, as part of it shifted over the past 130+ years. (That section of the house was built in the early 1880's) Then, a floor beam/joist in that area is being replaced. (It cracked due to the shifted foundation... So we think the shift occurred recently, as that joist is huge! They did not use regular 4X4, 6X6, etc... beams back then. Sheldon may know what I am talking about here....) After that, the room over that section will be gutted and redone. That will become my parents new master bedroom. Then, the wall separating two rooms upstairs can be removed, giving a 15X15 room for me. Part of that room will house the new layout. (Plan has a 12X12 "L" in one corner, with a removable staging yard off one leg. That is very subject to change however....)

Yes, that room will become larger, but will also hold my drum set, and do double duty as my new bedroom. (Hense the wall that is currently up...)

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night tonight!

Ulrich well I am glad and sad for you. I had $300.00 worth of damage done to my 68 Road Runner when the Ash Pit Dunce tried to kick off a $39.99 8 Track Tape Player. Yes it was a long, long, long time ago. Held on with two 1/4" bolts. Still have the Road Runner, tape deck died on its own.

Mr B Well that is good news! Hard to belivie these days a stent is no big deal.

It's Ulrich.  I only mention it because I've seen this more than once, tho' I don't know who wrote that before.

Glad everyone is out of the hospital.

I fixed some shutters on my house.  They are plastic imitation shutters, held on by friction pins, that the developer installed on all the homes.  The pins bake in the sun and break.

I discovered previous handymen, did not drill out the old pins, then cut the new pins short and sloped liquid nails all over the brick facade.  This is the workforce from the third world that we cannot do without.

Quality workmanship and cheap labor usually don't go together.  Plus, you have employers paying workers under the table or as 1099's in order to keep costs down, which is also bad news.  Anyway, I'm sorry you had the problem with your shutters.Hopefully the adhesive can be removed from the brick without damaging it.  Will you be able to fix the old shutters, or will you have to buy new ones?

Stumbled on the "never shown" pilot of the Beverly Hillbillies.  I always remember the opening scene, where Jed shoots at something and oil comes bubbling out of the ground.

This is different.  You will have tears in your eyes.
