Track fiddler, there is no need to apologize, now that we know what is behind the words it's fine, good luck and godspeed on your journey of kicking the tobacco!
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Evening diners I'll take the special. Whatever that is. I'm so hungry I could eat anything
NWP SWP.... I hope you got my apology and accepted it OK. Without my nicotine I've been a big old bear lately. No offense to the bear, I like the bear.
Ulrich and Brent thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement and support. You have no idea what that means to me and how much it helps.
My wife is still smoking. She is being good enough to go outside and going behind the curtain on the sliding glass door. I don't need to see or smell it right now.
Well I just got back home from work I'm going to get settled, have some dinner and then I'll show you guys and gals what I wrestled with today
In keeping with too many letters in a word...

Good morning from the Eastern edge of the Pacific Rim just above the 49th, Light showers this morning but clearing up later.
Ever wonder what happens to all the stuff when a movie is finished or a TV series ends. We have a lot of Auctions up here for that kind of stuff. It is fun to go and look sometimes, especially for films like Star Trek and other biggies that have cool stuff like phaser rifles or shuttlecraft. I always wanted a shuttlecraft in the backyard. We had a bunch of old suitcases and an old toboggan and sleigh and a few other relics. We put an ad online and the movie people came and gave us big $ for the stuff I was going to take to the dump.

Dave congrats on the last spike. How about a live feed on Facebook of the event.
I like Roberts idea of the time capsule.
Track Fiddler, keep up the good work. I had a friend that gave up smoking, every time he thought he could not go any longer, I got him to go for a run with me and he started doing that on his own after the few times I got him out. Exhaustion took away the urge. He was really heavy and not only did that get him through the urges, he lost over a hundred pounds to boot and that was not part of the plan. He can now still run circles around me.
Think I will have a deadbeat day today, maybe run a train or two. Going to a friends place later for Prime Rib, can't wait for that. I need to pull a bottle of Cab Sav to take. We are going to plan meals for the big multi-family camping trip coming up. A couple of nights we usually do a big potluck and then just look after ourselves the rest of the time, great fun. I may do the truck and trailer inspection today as we are a long way to a service facility at the campsite, a 100K at least.
Not sure if we will do any "Ghost Towning" this trip as we have pretty much covered the ones where we are going. I think I will head out on my own for a couple of days later in the Summer as there are a couple of spots I have passed by in previous years in other parts of the Province.
Well, the Sun just came out, so I better get off my butt.
All the best to all.
Brent

hon30critter OK, I have to spill the beans! The Barrie Allandale Railway Modellers Association is very close to completing the mainline loop on our new layout. To honour the occassion I have ordered an HO scale Golden Spike to be installed just before the first lap of the mainline is completed. In truth, it will be gold plated silver but let's not sweat the details. I have also ordered a small brass plaque that will show the date of the event. I'm hoping that everybody gets a kick out of the ceremony. Unfortunately, club rules don't allow alcohol on the premises, but I might just break the rules! Dave

Hey Dave
Any details on the ceremony?
At our club everyone involved signed the benchwork in the vicinity of the GS. Everything is now covered with paint and whatnot, but a hundred years from now some archeologist will scrape the paint flecks and reveal the names of the craftsmen who created the layout.
Photos, of course; with circles and arrows and a paragraph or two on the back.
Time capsule buried under the 1:87 courthouse square. Tools, scraps, broken jigsaw blades, burnt-out decoders . . . insignificant stuff today, but things the grandkids might get a kick out of in the future.
Enjoy.

Mornin' folks!
Currently 67°F outside under cloudy, grey skies. Supposed to get some thunderboomers and showers as well today. That won't hurt anything as I got the lawn mowed last Thursday and the garden is dry.
Well, Steven you can can get virtually anything at most any time here in the diner!!!
Congratulations Track Fiddler on being smokefree for the last two weeks. Stay with it! You CAN do it.
I can't figure out how, by making sure I am coming up at least 500 calories a day short, I have managed to gain 4 lbs.!!!! The personal trainer I talked to yesterday reminded me that as well as losing fat I am gaining muscle, but................. So I am cutting back another 500 or so calories a day and making sure I keep moving and getting enought steps every day. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
The squirrel feeder my son gave me is now the favorite of the neighborhood bushy tailed rats we have.... I have ordered a couple of cones to put on the metal stake the feeder is hung from. That will take a week to get here (free shipping).
I will be spending most of the day cleaning house. Every 4 or 5 months I feel it is probably time........

Good morning diners!
Is the diner gonna go the way of IHOP, err, I mean IHOb, and start selling burgers and no breakfast?
If not I'll take an Apple Fritter and a slice of Pecan Pie, wash that down with a big ol' glass of milk!
Track fiddler, congratulations on being tobacco free for two weeks! It takes guts to do it. a recent study showed only 15-17% of Americans smoked in 2017 that's still 52,112,000 out of the 325,700,000 Americans, just 1 percent of the population is 3,257,000 people! All those numbers are above one million, two are above ten million.
Anyways, I've got lots of stuff to do around the house (yard) so Auf Wiedersehen (I think I got the spelling right)
Track fiddlerI haven't been myself lately. This quit smoking thing is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. This Sunday will be 2 weeks. I'm still quite a bit edgy. My wife tells me so.
Three years ago my doc asked me how old I was and when I answered 59, he told me to quit smoking immediately, should I have the desire to turn 60. And that´s exactly what I did. It is much easier with the right motivation behind. The physical addiction is much less than the mental addiction. To overcome that, all you need is the will to stay away from that stuff - I have no doubts that you have that!
Venceremos!
Morning diners
I'll have a cup of coffee, black please, then it's off to work. I Must apologize. To get bent out of shape over being confronted on spelling a name wrong is little unusual.

I'm sticking with it.... I don't wake up at 3:30-4:00 in the morning with trouble breathing anymore. It's nice I'm getting my rest.
Everyone have a great day!
PS. Ed and Dave thanks for the compliments. Ulrich thanks for schmoozing over my spelling mistake on your name. I have to say the information and history was interesting
Tinplate Toddler Now that the sixpack has turned into a lifebelt, the hair has receeded into oblivion and my poor old motor has a glitch in the git-along, the term "handsome" is nothing but a memory of days long gone by.
Let's just say that you and I have aged "gracefully".
I have to tell you that I now am really happy when the lawn is being cut! Up until now my back has made cutting the grass a really uncomfortable ordeal, but now it happens all on its' own! Our arbourist recommended a lawn cutting company and I am very happy to report that they do excellent work. The owner is a real gentleman, and he has been in the business for a long time. I am so relieved that I won't have to suffer the pain of cutting the lawn any more!
What's even more interesting is that this guy (Chris) races cars! He was telling me about his adventures, including the fact that he blew his only engine (small block Chevy V8) in his last race. He doesn't have a spare so he is hoping that it can be repaired before the next race. When he sends me the monthly bill for the lawn cutting I think I'll add in a little extra to help pay for the repair.
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Congratulations!
Track fiddlerMy bridge is done with the exception of the 150-180 gusset plates. I haven't counted yet.
When I first saw your neat, curved bridge, I was immediately reminded of the Massillon, Ohio, bridge that carries the PRR Pittsburgh - Fort Wayne main line over the Tuscarawas River and the Ohio & Erie Canal.

I love bridges, I especially love curved bridges! Nice work! Bravo.
My dad and I once belonged to a railroad club that held some of their meetings in the Massillon depot and we would visit this bridge to "see the action"— which was plenty back in the late 1960s!
Congratulations on your Golden Spike Ceremony, Dave!

Oh my, a real handsome dude eh!?! I better not tell my wife or she might be buying a one way single ticket to Hamburg!
Cheers Ulrich!!
Actually, Track fiddler´s accidental misspelling of my name is not that far off.
Ulrich is an old Saxon/German name which has seen quite a number of different spellings over the centuries. Differences also occur in the various regions where the Saxons and other Germanic tribes settled. While Ulrich is the "modern" German spelling, the Anglo-Saxons know the name as Alrich, Aldrige, Alaric or Aethelric. About a thousand years before the "Mayflower" set sails for the New World, the name´s spelling included also Odalric, Udalrich and Adalric and, finally, Ulrik.
The meaning of the name is said to be "of noble power".
In the 1950s and 1960s, the name Ulrich was among the more popular names for boys, but that has changed. It is now regarded to be "too German" and is completely out of fashion. My parents found it suitable for a little baby boy that later grew into a 6´5" tall, friendly giant with blond hair, a reddish beard and steel-blue eyes. The blond hair is mostly gone and the red beard has turned grey. Only the color of the eyes remains.
NWP SWP.... We're all good here
Restoring some rotten (edited) bases on some victorian pillars tomorrow. The customer is paying well.I got to hit the rack. Thanks.... we're all good
Let's see, 180 gusset plates x 40 or 50 rivets per plate - that means you only have +/- 8000 rivets to install!!!
Seriously, the bridge looks great! Well done!
My bridge is done with the exception of the 150-180 gusset plates. I haven't counted yet.
Track fiddler, I apologize for sounding rude, I did not mean it that way at ALL, sorry it came across wrong!
Yeah you will be alright. Tough work week I put in..... I'm tired.
Whatever. Just trying to be a little sentimental here and I get beat up.
I meant every word I said just spelled the name wrong.
Human error crap happens. I'm sure Ulrich appreciates what I'm saying.
I meant it from my heart, give me a break, I'm going to bed....... later days
Track fiddlerThis is all I got to say.
Well said, Track Fiddler.

Track fiddler, I believe Alrich's name is Ulrich, with a U not an A, I may be wrong!
This is all I got to say.
Alrich is a Kingpin to this Forum. He has been for many many years.
When I joined this Forum Alridge was there.
Earlier before when I was just reading and not posting Alrich was there.
Alrich is very important to all of us and always will be. And he darn will be posting on these forums for a long long time after this post!....Just because I say so........... Track Fiddler

Sheesh, Steven, I looked at that top photo and wondered what you were doing in my old college stomping grounds! When I was at Eastman School of Music I worked 3 summers for Rochester Telephone Company (now absorbed into one of the huge conglomerates). The building next door to one in the photograph was bought by the telephone co. and the second floor was being converted into an office space and the lower floor used as a truck repair and storage (It was used as that for Genesee Brewing Co. as well previously). I was the grunt using a large and heavy drill to bore through about 6" of concrete to put in the 25 pair cables for the phone service most of that time. I had to stand on a 12' tall step ladder with one foot on the next to the top step and the other foot over on the brace on the back side and hold the drill over my head to drill through the concrete. More than once I almost fell off the ladder.... I was not happy with the assignment. Today the company would be breaking all kinds of safety codes to have me do that. Only good part of that job was that on break the crew could walk across the roofs to the bottling plant and get all the free beer we wanted as long as we got it out of the line before it was tax stamped..... Uh.... that might have been one of the reasons for my "almost" falls.... LOL
I got in 20 laps over at the fieldhouse this morning. That is 3.7 miles! Not too bad for an old guy with arthritis in my right hip.... My new goal is to end up walking 22 laps. That would be 4 miles in the outside lane I use. Back just a few months ago I couldn't finsh a mile, so I am pleased with the progress. A gent who I see over there almost every day I go stopped me with a couple laps to go and asked how far I put in. We have said hi several times but not really had time to talk. Last week he was doing his last lap winding down and I actually passed him. As I did I said, WOW! Never thought I would get to pass you..... He puts in 17 laps (3 miles) but runs half of the time and then walks for a bit. Told me he is 78 years old and was hired to be a personal trainer for an older lady who does about the same distance now. I thought they were a couple as the two of them end up walking and running together. I think the gent was a Physical Education Teacher. I have seen him working out over there off and on for the last 20 years (when I would be struggling to make a few times around the place). He said he plans to get up to 20 laps soon. Also very encouraging to me. Said he has seen a lot of improvement in how I'm doing and told me to keep at it!

Flo, the gang and I will have a and give Rick and Steven what they like.
Wife is trying to give me a heart attack. Long story but here it goes. Sparkie The Rocket Dog came from a American Eskimo Rescue when it was 10. What we did not know was he had health problems. At age 14 he is now blind and deaf but we love just the same and he is the sweets dog we have ever owned.
Took him to the vet today because he has peed our bed twices. The Vet that could see him was not the one my wife wanted to see him. This Vet has hurt our daughter dog twices. I don't know if it was the Vets fault or the dogs but wife would not hear of her seeing Sparkie. His temp was normal so they thought there was no infection.
Just a little while ago my wife came out screaming Sparkie Won't Wake Up! I jumped up and was heading for the bedroom ready to take him to the Vet! When I got there he was just waking up and seems OK now. But it had me worried, I don't think he will be with us for another 2 years.

Just got my first spam phone call from Tonga. I did not pick up. Tonga is south of Fiji and east of Guadalcanal.
Acer sent my laptop back. They found a loose monitor cable. It can connect to my wireless network, but it doesn't see my desktop or printer. My decrepit HP laptop can see all 3 computers but can't see files from the other two. The desktop can also see all 3 but it can only read files from the HP. All the network/share settings look the same to me.
